Air Bag On-off Switch Problems of Honda Odyssey

Driver air bag sensor switch was not working and had to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Odyssey. While driving at any speed, the vehicle would switch into neutral. The contact had to turn the engine off and back on to resume driving. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). In addition, the contact stated that the air bag light remained illuminated while driving. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,622.

The srs light in my vehicle is coming on intermittently. Honda diagnosed the problem as a switch in the driver's side seat belt. Page 53 of my vehicle owners manual clearly states the following: "Honda provides a lifetime warranty on seat belts. Honda will repair or replace any seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use. " as such, the aforementioned seat belt buckle switch is a component of the seat belt. However, Honda refuses to cover repair to my vehicle. This is a major safety concern, as according to my manual, an srs indicator light may cause certain airbags not to deploy during a collision. Such an event would surely cause clearly preventable bodily harm if they would just honor their warranty. I'm calling on the NHTSA to investigate this issue, as I have found many others in online forums having the exact same problem, with mixed results from Honda.

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while backing into the driveway. The vehicle made an abnormal noise and accellerate backwards. The contact switched forward and the vehicle continued to excellerate. The contact attempted to engage the breaks however, the breaks failed. The vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle and stopped. The air bags deployed and caught on fire. The contact suffered injuries to the hands and eyes. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, the vehicle was not repaired. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Gl.
