American Honda motor CO. , inc. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2000 accord coupe, 2000 accord sedan, 2000 civic coupe, 2000 civic sedan, 2000-2001 cr-v, and 2000-2001 Odyssey vehicles. These vehicles may have received a replacement driver frontal air bag module as part of a vehicle repair. Due to a manufacturing issue, the replacement nadi inflator may absorb moisture, causing the inflator to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragment striking the driver or occupants.

Honda sent an "important safety recall" to me. It stated that the parts needed to repair my vehicle are not available. It said no action should be taken by me until parts are made available. I called Honda whose representative stated: 1) the notice really wasn't very important and was only issued to meet a NHTSA requirement. 2) there have only been three incidents and those involved derelict cars in scrap yards. 3) most affected vehicles would only require inspection and not a replacement part. There have been widespread press reports of a fatality and an injury caused by this defect. "BMW says in documents posted by the u. S. 10 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Takata recall. We received a safety recall notice from Honda in June 2016 regarding a problem with our passenger frontal airbag inflator. The notice said Honda would replace the airbag inflator free of charge. The NHTSA recall number is 16v-344. Beginning on July 7, 2016, I tried several times to call my local Honda dealer (ourisman Honda in bethesda, MD) to schedule an appointment for the replacement. However, they have refused to call me back to schedule an appointment. I called american Honda's customer service number to file a complaint and no one called me back. Both american Honda and their dealer (ourisman Honda) have failed to remedy this defect within 60 days of the date that I first contacted the dealer for a repair appointment (July 7, 2016).

11 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/29/2015

On Friday, may 29, 2015, the airbags on our 2003 Honda Odyssey deployed without accident or apparent cause while driving approximately fifteen (15) miles per hour on a residential street. The physical impact of the side airbag’s deployment caused bleeding, severe scrapes and contusions to my wife's (the driver's) left arm. Although very traumatic and painful, we consider this a very fortunate outcome given that this inadvertent deployment could have easily caused more severe injuries or even death had it occurred: (1) at a higher rate of speed or in crowded traffic conditions or (2) had the airbags deployed with excessive internal pressure causing their inflators to rupture. This vehicle is currently under two separate NHTSA recalls: (1)15v-045 (mfr campaign id jn6) (inadvertent deployment) (2)14v-351 (mfr campaign id jh0) (potential rupture) it is important to note that we had done everything within our power to avoid being harmed by the known defects in this vehicle by bringing it to our local Honda dealer on 6/9/14 and 11/18/14 for completion of earlier recalls, 13-088 and 14-040, respectively. Following the deployment, we received an offer from american Honda to repair the srs system and to pay for a rental car, but we were disappointed that they insisted that we appear at the dealer to sign a complete waiver before making these repairs, that the offer to replace the srs electronic control unit recalled under 15v-045 was to be done with a device still subject to recall and which has already proven inadequate to prevent injury and a complete denial of compensation for the injuries suffered by my wife and other damages. There should never have been a request to sign any waiver associated with completion of these repairs and ahm should rightfully have taken a stance that would have compensated us for all damages associated with this incident.

15 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I called the Honda recall telephone number listed on their web site. I had read that 2003 Honda Odysseys may contain takada air bag inflators manufactured with inadequate manufacturing control. The current recall (as stated on their web site) is limited to 13 u. S. States and territories that "consistently experience high absolute humidity". The list does not include indiana. The Honda representative said there was no way of knowing what airbag inflator was installed in my van even with the VIN. The representative suggested that I contact a dealer. I then contacted a dealer in clarksville indiana and asked if they could tell me what airbag inflator was installed in my vehicle based upon the VIN. The dealer said no. Honda & the dealer both confirmed that there is inadequate part traceability in their vehicles. Without such traceability to the VIN, no recall that is conducted could ensure that all of the defective parts have been replaced. Letting the manufacturer determine how a recall is conducted is not in the best interest of the public. Manufacturer negotiation and bargaining with NHTSA concerning recalls is also an inadequate process. It lacks transparency that the public deserves in matters that are related to life and death safety issues. The dealer told me that they had already conducted air bag recall work on many Honda oddysey vans in indiana (10 - 20). This contradicts the scope of the current recall listed on Honda's web site and calls into question the honesty of the entire process. The dealer offered no assistance. When a manufacturing safety related defect as serious as the Honda issue arises, the public deserves to have their interests placed ahead of the profits of any manufacturer or dealer. The confusion around this issue and the lack of transparency also casts a shadow upon the effectiveness of the entire regulatory system.

21 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/12/2005

Summary: wiring problem that could potentially cause air bag deployment when turning steering wheel. The wiring inside the cable reel assembly in the steering column of my 2003 Honda Odyssey came apart inside. This wiring include srs wiring as well as horn, lighting, and cruise control wiring. Upon removal of this part all copper contacts to all wires were exposed and any wire could have shorted to any other wire -- this could potentially cause the steering wheel srs/air bag to be deployed while driving. Contacts were constantly being tugged at whenever the steering wheel was turned. Because the car has 42,000 miles and Honda would not say they would pay to fix it, I repaired this myself in accordance with the Honda service manual. I have pictures of the part, and have save the part in a zip-lock bag so that it can be analyzed.
