The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 - 25 mph, the brake pedal went to the floorboard while depressed and failed to stop the vehicle immediately. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with rear brake caliper failure. The mechanic informed the contact that the rear brake caliper needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 240,000.

The brakes are way too soft! I almost hit a kid in my neighborhood when I could not stop as quickly as I should have going 30mph. I have to push the brakes all the way to the floor it is insane. I have had the brakes bled, new pads put in, new calipers put in and no fix has worked.

Driving home from dealership Saturday evening the breaks began to squeal in stop and go traffic. Front breaks started to squeal excessively loud when stopping, but the noise also continued when foot was removed from the break and accelerating. When fully stopped could smell burnt break pad. Took vehicle to nearest Honda dealer on Monday who examined the front breaks and found drivers side front brake caliper bracket installed incorrectly (misaligned) which also lead to the caliper being damaged. Service technician believed this to be an assembly defect. Dealer will replace parts and correct issue under manufacturers warranty.

First time noticed soft brakes then pedal went down almost to the floor which ended up making girding noise. This now has occurred many times over especially going down hill of any grade low or high. I have complained to my local Honda dealer but no action but to say they have heard of others complaints but can't re-duplicate nor has fix for that. I went to the Honda forum and there were many complaints regards to these soft brakes and similar issues. In that forum many mechanically minds have concluded that Odyssey uses same small brakes/calipers as smaller SUV- cvr. Comparing that these are just too under powered brakes for our heavy minivan. Some have found easy solution by replacing them with Honda passport's brakes/rotors/calipers to satisfaction. I believe this is a big safety issue. They know about it on same model on yr 07 & 08. I have so far had to pay dealer for brake fluid bleed & flush(it was dirty and very dark) at 27k mi. , rotor resurface for both front and rear, brake pads replace at 42k mi. I'm also previous owner of 2001 Odyssey and though experienced auto tranny issue, never had brake problem nor many services related to brakes. Please investigate this model and hopefully we don't have to keep paying or worst have accident some where down the road because of this under powered brakes.

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 35 mph and approaching a traffic light, the vehicles stability assist "vsa" warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Unexpectedly, the brake system began to lock. The driver moved off the road and shut off the engine. The vehicle restarted without the illumination of the warning indicator and resumed normal operation. Moments later, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the brakes were unlocked under the factory warranty. The identical failure occurred on a separate occasion. The dealer advised the contact that the brakes melted and replaced the calipers and brake drums. The failure mileage was 7,500 and the current mileage was unknown.

My brake fluid is leaking from the front calipers of my brand new van. Honda has replaced the pads twice and the calipers once already. I had to add over a pint of fluid to get the light to go off - it is now leaking out again. Is this not a very serious issue? I get little concern from my dealer other than a remark to bring the thing back in again and again with no explanation or permanent fix.

(1) we were driving today about 35 mph and the signal light turned red. We proceeded to stop and our brakes started making a grinding/clunking sound. It also prevented us to slow down our van normally. . . . In other words. . . . Increased the distance before our van stopped. (2) we just about went into the 4-way intersection, but we didn't. (3) our dealership has looked at our brakes a couple weeks ago and did not find a problem. They spoke to a couple Honda engineers who were aware of this issue with other 05 Odyssey minivans. They stated Honda is working on a solution to fix this issue and the issue does not effect the vans stopping performance. This is not true as I have had slam on my brakes a few weeks back due to someone pulling out in front of me and it did the samething with the grinding/clunking. I almost hit the other car due to the increased braking distance. . Read more...
When braking, severe grinding noise right front. Dealer said calipers were leaking on to pads causing noise. Replaced calipers and pads. Lasted a week, same noise, dealer again replaced pads and calipers. Said they have had a lot of complaints but don't know why it is happening. Not a safe condition.
I am on my second set of brake pads in the just under 45000 miles. I took my van to two local brake stores and the dealer. I told them all the same information I was hearing grinding when I stop. Just brakes told me the calipers on my van were not retracting. This caused my brake pads to glaze because it was like I was always applying my brakes. They also discovered my brake pads were cracked. They also had a list of other things that had to be resurfaced because of wear. Their estimate for this work was just over $400. It was time for my 45,000 mile maintenance, so I took my van to goodson Honda where I purchased it. I told the dealer my calipers weren't working. It had caused my brake pads to crystallize and I wanted my extended warranty to cover the defect in the calipers and to fix my break system under warranty due to this defect. They told me there was nothing wrong with the calipers and the brakes should last another 5000-7000 miles. When I asked why the pads were glazed, they said brakes usually do not last 45,000 miles. When I told them it was my second set of brake pads, they said it comes from riding the brake. I live pretty far out for the houston area and my job requires me to drive along a well surfaced county road with little traffic. There is no stop and go driving. The dealer didn't catch the cracked brake pads and admitted that they hadn't even checked the pads. I had my brakes repaired yesterday at a local brake check. They oiled the calipers, (they thought they were sticking) replaced my cracked brake pads, and resurfaced most everything else in the system at a cost of $234.
