Less than year and about 9800 miles rotors and breaks pads got bad, needs to be changed normal driving new van shouldn't have rotors and brakes pads issue, seems to me really bad material used for rotors.
Either the brake rotors warp or the pads deposit something onto the rotors. The car habitually goes through brakes, a single long descent will cause brand new brakes to jutter back and forth violently, which is unnerving feels like it decreases brake effectiveness. Even in light use the rotors have to be surfaced and pads are replace twice a year. This is mentioned very frequently online in forums, and when brought up to a dealership they deny any chronic brake problems. They insist drivers must be "riding the brakes".

While braking at 50+mph, the steering wheel starts to shake violently. The car currently has 58,000 miles on it. This has been occurring for over a year. We have had the tires rotated and balanced, the rotors and break pads are good. This is becoming a safety hazard and Honda needs to do something about this.

The van brakes have squealed since brand new 2018 purchased, returned van and they installed new brake pads and possible other parts however the brakes still squeal, ive called and the dealership says they don't know whats wrong and don't know how to fix. The 2nd issue is the cds when played get very hot like on fire hot, took van in to get looked at. The dealership replace cd player . The fix did not work the new cd player still makes the cds very hot like its going to start a fire. The cds are so hot that I cant even hold them. I believe a fire will start.

At 26608 miles front rotors had to be resurfaced. Honda dealer did this at no charge for first time only. rotors vibrated again at 50000 miles and were replaced independently with non Honda parts. Now again at 70000 miles the vibration when braking is worse than ever before. Brake pads were replaced as well with no improvement. With so many owners having this issue Honda needs to address it.
I done all new break pads router job after about one month my break paddle became soft wean I aplay break car can't stop need long distance to stop. My wife drives the car and she is so scared to drive this problem I noticed every time I done break job after some time I didn't know watt to do! it's vehicle manufacturing problem?.

Pulsation/shaking of the steering wheel and brake pedal to the point of feeling like going to lose control of the vehicle when braking at speeds higher than 45 - 55 mph. Have had to have rotors resurfaced twice to take care of the problem (1st in 2015 at 24,177 miles but under warranty, 2nd in 2017 at $204 and the problem came back again at 51,542). Now being told to resurface them once more or replace front brakes and pads for $668 and if replaced will be with the new design of the rotors allows for more air flow. If there is a new design, then obviously Honda knows that there was a problem with the old design and should have done a recall. In researching the issues online (carscomplaints. Com, repairpal. Com) many other people seem to have the same complaint. I've never had to had rotors resurfaced so many times.

Before my car reached the 20,000 mile age the car starts to shake when hitting the brakes when decelerating at 50-30 mph speed. Asked the dealership if they can check what is wrong. They said the brakes are fine. I thought it was a wheel balance issue but the car is new. Not until I read all of the complaints about this car. Now my car is 57,000 miles old and will need the rotor and pads replaced. Outside mechanic charging me $450 for rotor replacement, pads and labor.
Vehicle has a soft brake, my wife has been complained that the brake pedal feels soft and would go low to the floor for some years now, I continued to service the brakes, pads and rotors and shortly after she would say the pedal is low again. I started to look into this and see if there is any complaints on it and found a NHTSA recall number: 10v-098 that describes exactly whats going on and my local Honda dealer says my VIN shows no recalls. My Honda was made in Nov of 2007 and falls into the years that is affected. Can you look and see if there are any more complaints in this? and this is while vehicle is moving or stationary the pedal gose way to low to the floor.
The original factory front brake rotors in this vehicle (and all others of the same model year) do not cool adequately under normal use, which can cause the vehicle to vibrate dramatically when braking. Two separate dealers claim that is is "not a safety hazard," but the vibration was so bad that normal drivers of this vehicle feared for loss of control and/or possible damage to the brake system. A redesigned brake rotor is available from the manufacturer, although, in spite of the obvious correction of a prior design defect, the new rotors are not covered by any warranty provision for replacement. We have replaced the front rotors and brake pads at a cost of $755. 18. In the opinion of this writer, every Odyssey owner for this model year ought to do the same. General online consensus on this issue appears to cover other model years as well and supports this diagnosis and its resolution in this manner. Photos include both old and new brake rotors. The redesigned rotors have vents around a much larger hub, unlike the original ones.

The brakes are getting lower even with a full reservoir. After Honda dealer flushed, blead and restored the brake fluid, the vsa module failed and caused autonomous braking and worsening of pedal softening and braking control assist. This issue has been recalled with previous years and should be addressed again by NHTSA and Honda. Brakes came on while driving causing burning up of pads and rotors. Very bad smell coming from brake area.

At 25,000 miles on my Honda when I applied the brakes the front end started shaking severely, toke the car to the Honda dealer for service, they told me that the brake pads got hot the fixed the pads cost $200 another 25,000 miles sure enough the same problem this time I complained to the service mg he gave me a discount and said this size pads where on all the Honda cars, Honda did not make any effort to place larger size front brake pads on their Odyssey, now at 77,000 mile its vibrating again. Major problem if you have to stop fast the vibration is so severe you could lose control of the car . Went to the internet found a number of complaints from other Odyssey customer. I have service records for my Odyssey if needed.

Today, at Honda dealership, was informed that the reason our vehicle shakes and vibrates roughly at high speeds (when braking) is due to warped rotors. Was told Honda has discontinued making those rotors and would need them replaced with new rotors that have been made larger. Known issue, but not covered, cost approx $800 total with new pads, etc. Very frustrated that a part has been discontinued and deemed unsafe t be used again, but no recall or reimbursement for this.
"takata recall" my van has long braking response since I bought it, I've changed all rotors and pads, bled the system, and the brake is still soft, I check online, and there are a lot of people having the same problem.
I was driving and all of a sudden the brakes just lost power and I had to press the brake very firmly to feel any actual braking happen. The rotors and pads were replaced about 200 miles ago and the entire brake system flushed due to previous issue of a very spongy or soft brake pedal. The vehicle's brake failure started at the end of a 50 mile commute at as I got off the freeway and approached a red light it took twice-three times the normal distance to stop going about 40 mph.
Car has 53,000 miles on and while driving in speeds above 30 mph the steering wheel violently shakes and is worsens with increased speeds. This shakes my entire body, steering column and makes it difficult to control the wheel. I had already replaced both front and back pads and had rotors turned around 23k. All work done at Honda dealership.
We purchased van used at 33k miles. At that time it already displayed a slight vibration in the steering wheel when coming to a stop while breaking lightly. I thought it was out of alignment and made an appointment with dealer to fix. Per dealer front rotors were resurfaced because of 'uneven surface' and that was the cause of the problem. After a couple of months problem began again. It started with a very slight vibration only noticeable when breaking from about 60 mph. After a couple of weeks of driving during the winter weather in illinois the vibration became unnerving as the steering wheel shook so violently. Still under warranty, I returned to dealer to address problem. They would not fix the problem because they claimed that the remaining warranty would not not cover the rotors or any brake issues, but would gladly change all brakes and do an all wheel alignment for about $1200. Instead I opted to see my trusted mechanic of over 25 years who changed the front rotors and pads in early fall of 2016. The problem disappeared for about three months and I had to return right after the 2017 new year because the vibration had returned at a considerable level once again. "maybe it was a bad batch," he said, "very unusual for that to happen. " the rotors had a one year warranty so they were replaced at no charge except for labor. However, today is 4/22/17 and I am back again for the same problem because the vibration is getting worse once again and I must drive on the freeway often. I have three kids and I fear for their safety whenever they ride in the van. This seems to be an issue that many other owners are complaining about for some time and it still has not been addressed properly. I had one service rep at the dealer tell me off the record that the disks are too small for the size or weight of the van and that is why they overheat and warp so easily.
This is a car I just purchased from owner, my report is the soft brake pedal. Having just put on new pads, it didn't make any change in the pedal as it would with most cars? is there any recall on this car for brakes. I read where many other owned have this same issue.

Like so many other Odysseys, the brakes vibrate and shake the steering wheel under heavy braking such as stopping at the bottom of a hill. Honda has come up with new part #, but they say not covered on our vehicle. Should not have to replace rotors & pads at 22000 miles.
There was a check engine light and upon inspection, Honda notified me that the piston ring replacement was necessary and that Honda extended the warranty to 100k miles. The problem was the timing belt and few other parts needed to be replaced because they would get damaged during this warranty repair. Honda refused to pay for the timing belt replacement and made me pay almost $800. 00 in parts and labor. 2. My car stared to vibrate every time I braked from about 15k miles. I took it in and instead of making the proper repairs the service center had the front rotors re-surfaced 3 times. The problem kept on coming back because the front rotors are undersized for the vehicle. I had to buy my own front rotors from a generic maker along with pads to correct the problem. It cost me $350 for parts and $200 at Honda service center to repair it properly. 3. There's a popping sound when I make turns. I've addressed it and no one will fix it. I don't think its normal that clicking and popping sound comes while steering.
Steering wheel vibrating when hitting brake on highway. My car mileage is 36642. The Honda dealer said it's front rotors issue before checking. I guess it's common for this year model. I also got the 2nd opinion from the wheelworks shop and they said "the front rotors have heat rings", but the front brake pads both are "8mm"(green meaning good condition).
24,000 miles on our car and it is only 2 years old and we were told our front rotors were warped and needed to be machined. I had call the service dept. When we were under 20,000miles and was told the sqeaky noise was from the rain and the water getting onto the brake pads. . . Ya ok. $120 + labor + taxes later and I was told it was due to my driving style. . Which I do not "ride the brakes" nor do I "break hard" . We have never had an issue like this with any other car. My husbands chevy malibu has over 100,000 miles on it and this is the second time we have had to have his brakes done. I am very frustrated with this and I think it should be under warranty or some sort of recall on the rotors.
Have vibration up thru steering column. Problem originally became noticeable inside of 10,000 miles. By 36,000 miles shaking was severe when braking hard at high speed especially going downhill, but also noticeable, at lower in city driving speeds, when braking and after the brakes have been used and heated up. At 36,773 miles the dealer turned the rotors which eliminated the vibration for a time. But much like the condition when the car was new, the vibration, over time and use, has returned and is once again severe. This is caused by faulty design of the brake rotors which when heated up from use warp causing uneven wear of the brake pads which over time causes the vibration when braking. Honda covered half the cost for the repair at 36,773 miles. Doubt they'll do anything this time when I take the car in again for repair at 73,000 miles. Owners should not get stuck with costly repairs due to faulty design and/or manufacturing. This is a problem that has been prevalent of other model year Odysseys and pilots.
At 29,000 miles, March of 2015, rotors had to be re-surfaced. At that time mechanic stated they where having a lot of problems with Odyssey rotors as the rotor was too small for the weight of the Odyssey. Mechanic and serive writer stated that all it took to wrapp rotors was one semi-hard stop. Dealer re-surface rotor under warranty, but would not replace brake pads that had a groove in them from wrapped rotor. Now at 44,000 miles, Nov. 3, 2015, rotors are wrapped again and need to be replaced. Dealer refuses to do anything about this problem. I believe this is a safety problem Honda should take care of by replacing rotors with a heavy duty rotor and new brake pads.
At 10k miles, we had vibration and sporadic humming noise from brakes. I took the vehicle to Honda last year with about 12. 5k miles on vehicle. They were unable to hear the noise but they wanted to turn the rotors to address the issue and said it went out of warranty at 12k miles. We were shocked as we have had numerous vehicles and never had to service brakes this early. After speaking with the manager they agreed to fix it under warranty and said because of driving habits sometimes brakes just need to be replaced sooner. The noise continued, we took it back around 24k miles. They couldn't hear the noise but shaved rear rotors to see if it helped. Now we have 35k miles and back at the service department for vibration and noise. This time I took a clip of the noise so they could hear it. The solution was new pads and turn the rotors on all axels and it would be about $400 since it’s not under warranty. They said brakes were in mechanically good condition and the pads still had about 40% so I could just live with noise and vibration if I didn’t want to do the brake job. I said I thought this was ridiculous based on its mileage and was again told basically it’s dependent on driving habits (although I have never had this problem on any other car I’ve owned). I said I think it’s a Honda brake design issue in that rotors and pads are not robust enough for the size of the vehicle as there are other complaints on NHTSA and online with the same issues. We talked to the service manager who agreed they have seen this as a problem and admitted he has a pilot that needs brakes about every 40k miles. They agreed to turn the back rotors to see if that fixes the noise and offered a discount to do the front brakes. He let us know we could use after market pads that may be better but aren’t under the Honda warranty (we didn’t do this and used same pads with less than appealing 12k mile warranty).
The car has been shaking (steering wheel specifically) when braking. This has been going on for about 5000 miles but I didn't realize it was an issue. Upon review it was found front brake pads are 80% and back are 50% but front rotors are warped. Dealer is not covering as 'under warranty' saying that warped rotors are driver wear. Everything I'm reading online says that this is happening to a lot of 2011-2014 Odysseys and that there are mixed results on dealers covering under warranty. I do not drive aggressively and do not drive mountains/hills. I've had 5 Honda's including one other Odyssey we drove for 9 years and never had this problem. I'm also reading it has been shown to happen repeatedly at low mileage rates. I will add another claim if this happens again.
While moving approximately 65 mph down a moderate grade, I applied light to moderate braking. I immediately felt a vibration in the front end and shaking in the steering wheel. This vibration and shaking only occurred while applying the brakes. The sensation was severe enough to question stability of the vehicle so I eventually visited the dealership and they advised me that the front rotors would need to be replaced. It seems premature for the rotors to need replacement after only 29,000 miles, particularly considering that the original brake pads themselves have plenty of life left. My concern for my family's safety compelled me to spend over $200 to have the dealership replace the rotors (at their recommendation) with newly designed Honda rotors. The dealership was generous in giving me a discount, (original cost was to be in excess of $300) however Honda corporation refused the cover the cost of the repairs whatsoever. I have researched this issue and have learned that many people have experienced exactly what I have. Honda's redesign of the rotors and communications with the dealership confirms that there is a legitimate problem with the brakes of this vehicle. Braking and steering control are compromised when needed most- going down a hill at interstate speed. I believe this to be a serious, ongoing safety concern for this vehicle and action should be taken. I want to reiterate that the dealership has done all they can to fix this problem, the inaction lies with Honda corporation exclusively. Thank you.
I previously reported this for the same problem and it recurred. Application of brakes cause shimmy when going downhill. Took it to dealer again under warranty and they again turned rotors and evened up the brake pads which did fix the problem. The dealer could not offer a non-speculative explanation why this has twice occurred now.
Had to have my rotors serviced around 40,000 miles for being warped. Now the van is at 59,000 miles and they are warped again. I've called Honda care and they won't do anything about the issue. Reading online many other customers are having the same issue. I've owned other vehicles in the past and have never had a problem with the rotors. This has too be a vehicle defect to be having this type of issue on a brand new vehicle. The brake pads on the care are good.
While driving the steering was shaking. So took it to the dealer who stated that the rotors had warped and need to be resurfaced. It appears to be too soon since the brake pads were fine. So I did pay for the resurfacing. Any one else having the same problems please report it. The rotors should not warp at 30000 miles.
Brake rotors showed abnormal wear with little notice. In previous two weeks, the brakes appeared "soft" and have required firmer braking. When I took the vehicle in for new brake pads, the mechanic showed the rotors to us as warped and unable to be machined. We have about 55k miles on the vehicle and are not heavy brakers. Looking at the online forum, it is clear that there is an issue with the brake system and in particular with premature wear of the rotors. As an aside, we have never replaced our rotors in our 2003 Honda civic with 150k miles.

After repeated problems with car shaking when braking, rotors & pads had to be replaced at 40,500 miles. Had similar rotor problems years ago with and accord and a Honda station wagon. Never had problem with Chrysler town & country that I drove for 167,000 miles. Husband has never had this problem with several toyotas driven to high mileages. Honda has a serious problem with rotors. I love the Odyssey, but won't buy another Honda for this reason!.
Like many others here, I have had problems with my rotors warping. I had my first problem right after the warranty expired. I had taken a long road trip over the summer, and the miles pushed me out of warranty. I had to pay the local Honda dealer to resurface the rotors(over $200!). Less than one year later, I experienced the same shaking etc when applying the brakes. Honda did resurface them a second time at their cost (since it was within one year). I was told at that time by the dealer, that if it happened again, the rotors would have to be completely replaced. It's now 10 months later, and once again I am experiencing the problem. The dealer can't do anything for me. I was told by more than one employee that they see this problem often, and that this style van is much heavier than my old Odyssey, and that's why they are warping, unlike my last van. I am extremely frustrated! I now have to pay them for new rotors and pads, and I know that in a year, will have the same problem again and again! shame on Honda for not standing behind their products.
Brake soft pedal/weak performance - longer stopping distance I strongly feel the brake pedal is soft and the performance is not good. It has a longer stopping distance. Current mileage is about 50k miles. At 30k the brake fluid was replaced as recommended by a dealer, along with other major maintenance scheduled. Still I felt the same issue at 45k, but the dealer replaced the front pads of the brake one year ago, but the problem remained as of now. In the beginning I thought because it is a bigger car and Honda's brake style. But I found other similar minivan I rented for a travel had a tight and good performing braking system, and also I purchased a Honda cr-v this January which has a very tight and good performing brake as well. In the mean time, I found a previous brake related recall for the Honda Odyssey 2007-8 models. My 2010 model has the similar brake problem with the older models - soft brake pedal. I am not sure how Honda has solved the previous problem and whether is there any similar problem possibly remaining in the later model. Simple brake pad replacement/rotor polishing and so on, can not solve this soft brake pedal problem. Dealer has not solved the problem but simply replacing my front brake pad and adjustment of the brake system. I am afraid this problem is very similar to the previous Honda Odyssey 2007-8 model problems.
