2013 Honda Odyssey bought new in April 2013 from Honda of pasadena (CA). At approximately one year of age and 12,000 miles I experience a (somewhat violent) 'shimmy' in the steering wheel when braking at freeway speeds. Specifically, when required to brake quickly from 70/75 mph to 50/55 mph. At just over 15,000 and having come off a lengthy road trip where problem began to really scare us, we took the van to the dealer. They road tested it and got it on the rack and said the rotors were warped and needed to be resurfaced ($223 vs. New of about $600). I asked the service writer about the need for resurfacing rotors at such low mileage (brakes pads over 9mm thick). I was told that it's common in Odysseys!! the repair is not covered under warranty (no brake or tire issues are covered by mfg warranty). After reading numerous websites about the issue, I am very concerned that I will have a recurring problem. Honda has issued recalls in older model Odyssey's (2006-2010). When will they fix this safety issue?.

I have had my vehicle into both a tires plus and zimbrick Honda (madison,WI) regarding what I would call a very soft brake pedal feel. Both service departments agreed that there was plenty of life on the rotors/pads. Both flushed the brake fluid. However the brake pedal still needs to be pressed 2/3 of the way down to stop the vehicle.

Vehicle shuddered while braking at 30-70 mph especially when going downhill, also causing steering wheel to shake back and forth. Took vehicle to the dealer today and they found warped rotors which seems unusual in this low mileage vehicle. The dealer resurfaced the rotors and re-installed with new brake pads at no charge.

Experienced extreme shaking while braking at high speeds. Brought the car into the dealership and they said my rotors are warped. I asked them why my rotors were warped at 6k miles and they didn't really say anything. The problem came back another time six months later and again they turned the rotors. It just happened again and they said my rotors are too thin to turn and they need to be replaced at 20k miles. I complained to the service manager and he said they have seen three other cars already of this year/make with rotor needing to be replaced at low mileage. They said this is more normal for a 60k mile plus type maintenance. Honda has agreed to replace the rotors and pads for the cost of the parts (free labor). However I thought I should report it as it seems to be a defect affecting more than just my car.

I have 22k miles on my Odyssey. A few months ago I started feeling shaking upon braking with steering wheels also shaking badly. Finally took it to the dealer who after a drive test said "front brake vibration - recommend brake pads and resurface rotors". However the Honda courtesy inspection report says 8mm left in brake pads which is more than 60% life. I strongly feel this is too soon for rotors or brake pad replacement and something ought to be a manufacturing defect here which should be covered under warranty.
1st service since new (7500 mi)oil, tire rotation. Immediately noticed shimmy upon braking. Returned to dealer after 2 months. Diagnosis: warped rotors. Turned. Problem solved. Questioned as to why, they stated water puddle, agressive driving, etc. No mention of a problem with the rotor heat dissipation. All was fine until recently, about 30,00 mi. Now same problem. Should this problem worsten, and it will, controling a vehicle on a long mountain hill will be disastrous. This is a known problem documented by numerous people on forums on the internet, as far back to at least 2006. Why hasn't this defect been addressed. I'm calling Honda America today, as if it will do any good. I have one Honda civic in my driveway now that has 136,000 mi. On it and the pads have never been replaced. Dealer said pads are good. 136,000 miles. Much less the brake rotors. No I'm not hard on the brakes as the dealer insinuated.
While braking, the steering begin to shimmy. Checks by a tire/brake shop verified that the front rotors were warped. Rotors were removed and turned to remove warping. Satisfactory performance of braking was restored but at 60,000 miles problem began to reoccur . I intend to replace rotors and pads with quality material (non Honda parts) to correct the problem. I'm greatly disappointed with Honda and their poor material quality.

I drive my van with my family every day and at freeway speed. When I need to brake the van starts shaking and the pedal pulse is very scary. I took it to jhon eagle in houston, and they told me the pads still had 60% life left. If I can live with this until the van gets repairs on all the brakes, or replace everything . But Honda does not have warranty on the brakes . The van is new, not safe , and without warranty.
The Mini van started to vibrate (the steering wheel) when I was braking at freeway speeds (65 mph) and down hill. I took it to a dealer for inspection and they told me that the front rotors was bad. The dealer recommend that a break job was needed. The break pads, rotors, and any braking matters should not be an issue until 50,000 miles. I asked why the rotors went bad so qucikly and the both speaking with the dealer and the car company, I was informed that the car is "heavy". I never towed anything or had no more than 6 average passener in my car. If that was the case the Honda did not adiquately put in the right size rotors. Further more, as an engineer, I do not uderstand what a new break job will do to correct the rotors from being warped if Honda installed an under rated rotor size or thickness. Not sure if there's going to be a safety issue.
When I brake driving 40mph or more, the car and the steering wheel will shake and vibrate extremely violently. This started when there was only 30k miles on the car so I took it to a dealer in TN and they said they didn't find a problem. Then at 42k miles, I took it to another dealer in va and the front rotors and pads were replaced. However, this did not fix the problem. Now the car has 70k miles and the shaking when I brake, was gotten worse. It feels like the car is out of control and not safe to drive, especially with passengers in the car. There seems to be a number of the same complaints on this site, so why hasn't there been a recall?.
Front disc rotors and brake pads cause extreme shaking of vehicle that the driver can detect through the steering wheel. First detected in ~early 2013 at low miles (~20000-25000). Took to dealer and they instructed we had warped rotors. They refinished for free, but I suspected that the rotors must be bad quality and asked to replace. They did not and said the refinishing should work. It temporarily worked (now at ~38000 miles and started shaking again at ~30-35k). I have decided to replace with upgraded rotors and pads myself and not worry about low quality rotors from Honda (very disappointed in this problem given we loved our older 2008 model and they didn't fix properly, but overall very happy with vehicle). Notice several complaints all ready posted and know others that have had brake issues with Odyssey through chat boards. Don't know why Honda ignores the issue when its obvious the rotors are poor quality.
Shakes when braking at speeds over 45 mph, drastically increasing 45-0 mph stopping distance, rotors have been resurfaced once and pads replaced already at approximately 13000 miles. At 25968 rotors need to be resurfaced again, pads about 50%, Honda advises that rotors will need to be resurfaced about every 12000-13000 miles to maintain safe driving conditions. No mountainous driving, or hard breaking, never had to resurface or replace rotors on any of my eight previous vehicles, including a Mini van.
The brakes pedal is very spongy. You have to press quite hard to get the car to stop. Vsa modulator seal recall work has been done already and there are new brake pads on the van. I have replaced brake fluid and bleed system multiple times. This car does not inspire braking performance.

Noticed when driving at highway speed and then having to brake abruptly there would a pulsation and the steering would start shuttering. Dealer diagnosed it as uneven brake pad wear due warped rotors. Cost to replace pads and resurface rotors, with tax, was $219. 34. Was advised that rotors could be resurfaced one more time.
We were coming down a mountain and even though I was using the engine to slow down the brakes started pulsing and the steering wheel started shaking. Since that time the problem has gotten worse and now happens at highway speeds. The problem does not go away until the brakes have cooled completely down. I checked on line and found out that this has been a problem with the Odyssey's for years and happens even after replacing the pads and rotors. Our vehicle now has 74,000 miles on it and when the problem occurs the shaking of the steering wheel can be severe.

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the brakes felt abnormally spongy when depressed. While stopped at a traffic stop on an incline, the contact depressed the brakes when the brakes failed and caused the contact to crash into another vehicle. There were no injuries and the police were not contacted. One week prior to the crash, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for replacement of the brake pads and the resurfacing of the rotors. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
We bought the vehicle brand new in 2011. We first experienced the problem with the brakes in April 2012 (at 19,327 miles) when heavy vibration was felt during braking. The vehicle was taken to Honda for inspection, determined the rotors were warped. New pads were replaced and rotors resurfaced. Eight months later (at 30,593 miles), same issue occurred again. Rotors were warped for unknown reason; necessitating a resurfacing and replacement of brake pads for the second time. Seven months after second visit (at 38,841 miles), the same issue occured for the third time - the rotors were found warped again. Like the previous visits, the adviser was not able to articulate the cause of the issue, only this time blamed my drivng behavior. I told the adviser I have other vehicle which is driven and handled in the same way but does not need constant brake services like the Odyssey (3 times in 16 months). He then change his theory and concluded that I wasn't driving enough - not allowing the pads to properly sync with the rotors, and suggested I should drive the vehicle more. To make matter worse, I was forced by the adviser to agree that the dealer will not be warranting any more front brake job becasue I wasn't driving enough and that the issue could reappear again 6 months later. I contacted America Honda but they offered no assistance, since they indicated there were no known issue filed. I feel the vehicle was poorly made or assembled thus creating the above issue.
I have owned this car from when it was new. Every 3000 miles the brakes and rotors have gone bad. They have been resurfaced and replaced by Honda 2 times. Each time the issue of vibration from the front and rear brakes reoccurred. I have since ran out of warranty (60k miles on the odo). At 50k I replaced the rotors and pads with aftermarket. Those too have warped. The brakes for this vehicle are simply too small and overwhelmed or there is something else entirely wrong with these vans. I see almost half of the complaints are about this same issue, yet Honda has done nothing to address it. Honda quality of the past seems to be gone as all prior Honda's were bullet proof. This one has been nothing but trouble.
2008 odyssy with brake problems, front rotors replaced at 20k, recall for air in brake system completed, took back to dealer complaining that air is back. Rebleed system again better, back to dealer about six months later, they say needs brakes replaced at a cost of 400. 00 to 500. 00. Continued to drive vehicle brakes worked okay but shook van when driven for a while, 60k front rotors and back rotor need repair front pads need replacing back pads okay but dealer said again need brakes at all 4 corners. Did the work my self to save money. When bleeding brakes I noticed black colored stuff coming out and lots of air. When will Honda realy fix the brakes? after a family dies because of brake failure. Somthing is wrong with this system. Front rotors twice and rear rotors at 60k. Rear pads were okay but replaced becuase they mad noise real bad.

After driving for several miles and apply the brakes it makes a grinding sound. I have taken it to the dealer ship several times but they could not duplicate the problem and could not solve the problem. The pads were checked each time and were in very good shape.
Based on my research, there are many other complaints by Honda owners of premature brake rotor wear and/or warping. This causes the steering wheel to shimmy or vibrate when applying breaks during high speeds especially on the freeway. I bought my Odyssey brand new and my dealer said I only have 20% wear on my brake pads. But the rotor apparently requires resurfacing or replacement to fix the vibration. For the rotor to fail at this early stage of wear and tear process is totally unacceptable. It is my belief that Honda puts sub-standard brake rotor components intentionally to save money. I'm not sure of the potential safety concern of this practice but life is precious enough not to take any chances. The braking system to me is the most crucial safety component of any vehicle. I've owned many cars before and replacing the rotor before the break pads with only 30k miles is totally something new to me. I was shock to learn how much results I got by searching "Honda steering wheel vibration brake rotors) on the internet. A lot of people are angry about it but nothing has been done to bring this up with Honda formally. Their customer service has a revolving door policy that this is just part of the normal wear and tear and completely not covered under their warranty. This is totally unacceptable!.
Sir / madam: I bought a 2011 Honda Odyssey touring elite, in December, 2010. It has a defective front brake system which causes the front rotors to warp and the brake pads to glaze over from overheating; causing all these components to prematurely ware out. I believe all Honda Odyssey¿s have this same problem. Honda says the front rotors only have a 12,000 mile warranty, since it is a wear item, I am responsible for the cost of all repairs. On two (2) occasions, while traveling on the us interstate highways, down steep mountains in colorado and north carolina, the steering wheel started shaking â±3 inches ¿ which is very frightening ¿ so much so, I started looking for the ¿runaway truck ramp! the vehicle currently has approximately 46,000 miles and has had two (2) sets of front rotors installed, the current rotors have been turned at least three (3) times, and three (3) sets of front brake pads. The front end currently shakes when the brakes are applied because the rotors are warped again but the dealer wants to wait longer before turning them (they are almost to the minimum rotor thickness). I have documented these problems by email and in person with the local Honda dealer, Honda manufacturing and Honda USA. Honda¿s district customer service manager drove the vehicle at 46,073 miles and acknowledged the front rotors were warped. However, Honda denies there is a front brake problem. Every other automobile I have ever owned has not required brake pads before 50,000 plus miles, nor new rotors before 100,000 plus miles. There are several other non-safety related issues with this vehicle. Any and all emails and service records are available for review. If you would like to discuss this matter please do not hesitate to call.
While I was accelerating at aprox. 40-45 mhp the car suddenly brakes by his own. I saw the brake pedal moving by itself ! I got scared by the consecuences or the risk of having an accident. On the way to my home it happened two (2) more times while getting speed. Went to the dealer but they didn't find anything. One week before the incident the dealer replaced two front brake pads and cut the front rotors because the car vibrated when the brakes were applied. The rotors were attended before. Before this incident the vsa light turned on two times while stepping the brakes and the vehicle used to vibrate. I'm concern for the safety of my kids.
My 2009 hoday Odyssey ex has 30,000 miles and has ongoing brake issues. The brakes are soft and goes to the floor and the van does not stop unless I pump the brakes. The brakes also make a loud grinding sound when trying to stop quickly and when going downhil:(freeway off ramps). It is not the abs braking system. There is no pulsating feeling on the brake pedal. The van does not stop when the brakes have this grinding sound. My Honda dealer has looked at the brakes and they say "no issues". They say brake pads and rotors are fine. They were check at every oil change at the dealership. I had the same soft brakes issues with my 2007 Honda Odyssey. The dealer also said no problems but there was a recall with soft brakes problems. I'm worried when I have to go up to the mountain and come back down the hill. There has to be a design flaw to have other Honda Odyssey owners complain about their brakes.
2006 Honda Odyssey. Consumer states he noticed brakes made noise every time the vehicle went to a slow stop and rubbing/groaning when braking downhill
the consumer stated she continued to experience problems with the brakes after the dealer claimed they replaced the pads and machined the rotors. The consumer took the vehicle to a personal mechanic and was informed the dealer only looked on the inside of tires and didn't remove the tires to look more in depth to check the brakes. The mechanic found the brakes were rubbing the rotors, so he replaced the front brake pads and polished the rotors.

We have an ongoing issue with violent brake vibration at highway speeds. Earlier this year when the van had approx. 15,000 miles we started experiancing the vibration. When we brought it to the dealer around 18,000 miles and pointed the problem out and they said the rotors were warped and we need to have them turned and we did. Well here we are at 23,000 miles and the brake vibration is back with a vengence. We are headed to the dealership this week but I already know what they are going to tell me - to turn the rotors. Well, I have been driving all makes of cars for over 30 years and I have never needed rotors turned at such low mileages and absolutly never had them turned twice withing 5000 miles!! in the day, the only reason to turn rotors was to remove the grooves created by the rivits that held the brake pads to the rotor. This stock rotor is clearly inferior in design (lack of cooling or poor quality metals) and needs to be addressed by Honda before someone gets hurt. There are several owners of these vehicles comlaining about the same issue on the net.
The contact owns 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that whenever braking to a stop, the front brakes would travel all the way to the floorboard causing a substantial increase in braking distance and time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for repairs to the brake pads but to no avail. The failure mileage was 68,000.
2009 Honda Odyssey, brake pedal is soft and go to the floor when apply the brake. Back at the dealer (3 times) can not fix, replace front disk and brake pads, still the same. Please help.
My 2009 Honda Odyssey ex-l has suffered from poor braking performance since new. The pedal constantly feels spongy. This condition forces me to begin braking sooner to ensure that the car stops at the right time. The car has been back to the dealer at least four times to address this problem. Brake pads have been replaced. Disc rotors have been resurfaced and replaced. The entire brake system (including the abs module) has been bled more than once. The dealer even installed a device the service advisor said would make the brakes actuate earlier in the brake pedal travel. Under all circumstances the dealer has maintained that the brake pedal feel and braking performance are normal. While the condition has not caused me to have a collision, like many other Odyssey owners I maintain that this condition is not normal.
Honda Odyssey 2008 - brake issue - car shudders significantly when the brakes are applied - speeds in excess of 30 mph we have been told by our local Honda dealership that our car is shuddering due to warped rotors - the Odyssey only has 50k on it and there is plenty of brake pad so I am not sure I understand why the rotors would already be warped and need to either be resurfaced or replaced. This seems rather odd and I have seen many other similar complaints out on the web regarding this issue. The service individual at Honda autosport also told me that it was very common for both pads and rotors to be replaced at 35k and that we were very lucky to have 50k on our van with plenty of brake pad remaining. In addition to the significant, almost violent shuddering that impacts steering that occurs when the brakes are applied - when the 2008 Odyssey comes to a stop there is a grinding sound that we have begun to notice in the last 3 weeks which the dealership cannot explain. We also just received the cost of replacing the rotors and brakes - $645 dollars for a car that is just 2 years old - this should not be common place. I have also called and reported this to american Honda, however, they were not very helpful with this matter.
I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey. A vibration in the steering wheel when braking lightly at low speeds. Took it to the dealership and they said the rotors were warped. There has to be defect in the brakes causing the rotors to warp as the vehicle only had 28k miles and the pads had more than 50% left. I researched online and looks like several people have had similar issues.
I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey (VIN# [xxx]), and I have noticed that the brakes have been soft for a long time. Since I had been having this same problem for a while, when I took it to the Honda dealership about a year ago, I had them check the brakes while it was in for other things. They told me the brake pads were fine and that they barely had any wear on them. They told me that's just the way Hondas are. But when I first got it brand new, I didn't have this problem. I found an article today about the pending recall for 2007-2008 Honda Odysseys, and it described the exact problem I am having with my Odyssey. I have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor to get it to stop, or even to get it to slow down enough to turn. I called Honda this morning and reported it, and I was told that since my Odyssey is out of warranty, I would have to take it in to the Honda dealership, have them inspect it, and pay for the repair myself. I don't think this is right. I feel that the problem must be in more than just the 2007-2008 models, and Honda should expand the recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Soft brakes. I bled the brakes, put new brake pads rotors and bled the brakes again same problem. These are the softest brakes that I've ever felt in a vehicle. I bought a 2015 Honda accord and the brakes on that feel like they're high performance compared to this Honda Odyssey. These brakes are terrible and I will not buy another Honda minivan because there are many many Honda Odyssey owners out there with the same problem and Honda says its normal.
2006 Honda Odyssey rotor brakes problems! in the past 4 years I have replaced my rotor brakes and pads 2 times! Honda did a courtesy replacement in 2007 after complaining to them that the brakes are making screeching sounds and when they found out that just after less than one year the rotor brake is warped. Last oct 2009, during service check they said the rotor brake is cracked/warped again and we need to replace it and they cannot cover I had to pay. I used the van for work ( 8 miles one -way). I complained to Honda dch oxnard and told them that the rotor brake and pads was just replaced in mid 2007 and how a van that is just used for work could have its rotor brakes fail in less than two years. They gave a lame excuse. Please help.
1. During a routine service on 12/22/2009 the dealer tech / mechanic advised that both front and rear brake rotors on my 2005 Honda Odyssey were rust pitted and needed to be replaced. This is clearly a defect on a relatively new car since I own a 10 year old 2001 Honda accord which has not had any such problem so far - under same driving conditions. 2. This is a safety defect and will require a expensive fix (approx. $1500 quoted by the dealer) for a car under warranty. Cannot continue to drive the car with rusted rotors and 2mm pads. 3. The dealer has quoted $1500 to replace both front / rear rotors and pads.
