2 Brake Disc problem of the 1998 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/23/1999

Brake problems, loud noise when applied. Purchased 8/98 and have taken it to the dealers for repairs, 7 times, for the very same problem. Had the front brakes replaced, and rotors machined, mileage 22,201, 4/10/00. Returned 7/13/00, 3 months later, for the same problem, mileage 25,262 was told front brakes 65%. Then today, 1/22/02 returned, same problem, mileage 38,444, again, told need to replace front brake pads and resurface the rotors. How much longer do we have to put up with this? we have always done what the dealer suggested now what?.

4 Brake Disc problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/22/1999

First time problem occured, brakes making groaning noise and also experienced brake fading. Dealer replaced brake pads. Repeat of problem at 13,500 miles; identical symptoms. Lots of brake dust. Brake system may be inadequate for the weight of vehicle, or brake pad material too soft.

5 Brake Disc problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/08/1999

Vehicle purchased new with six miles on odometer. At approximately 2100 miles, we noted a screeching noise and decreased braking. We took the vehicle to the selling dealer, immke Honda northwest -- this dealer put "molykote" on the disks or pads, returning the vehicle to us representing that the problem was corrected. At 3,000 miles, we noted increased metal-on-metal noise and significantly decreased braking. Another dealer replaced both front disks and one front pad, indicating that all were bad. This is reported due to danger of reduced braking and the occurrence at less than 3,000 miles (normal use).

6 Brake Disc problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

There appears to be a flaw in the design of the Honda Odyssey brake hardware. Since I purchased the car, I occasionally felt a vibration in the brake pedal, which seemed like the anti-lock feature kicking in when it shouldn't. I later realized the problem was excessive horizontal play in the brake pedal. The vibration is most evident on a bumpy road. On a couple of occasions when my shoe was wet, my foot came close to sliding off the brake pedal from the vibration, so this problem is a safety issue. I have sat in a few Odysseys at Honda dealers. In one case the brake pedal seemed to have significantly less play than mine; in the others the play seemed to be similar to mine. I did not drive these other cars, but I assume they would also have the vibration that mine does. The brake problem was checked at a Honda dealer, and I was told it was "normal". I then called Honda motors, and they arranged to have my car checked at another dealer. They acknowleged the play and compared it to another Odyssey and also classified it as "normal".

7 Brake Disc problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Front brake calipers are loose. The caliper assemblies shift and clunk when braking is applied and also can be moved by hand. The transmission is noisy when traveling at highway speeds producing a knocking type of sound. Dt.
