Honda Odyssey owners have reported 31 problems related to door hinge (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Odyssey based on all problems reported for the Odyssey.
Issue is the same as with recall notice 12v062000. The gas filled struts are not holding the lift gate open. Issue became more noticeable when weather was cold. Recall should not be limited to power lift models as the same struts are used for other models. I read many complaints regarding this issue when I researched online. My model is the lx.

1999 Honda Odyssey amongst other models that use the electronic sliding doors have a problem that also is very dangerous to the consumer. The safety hazards include doors not being secured, having to drive with door ajar and switch off so buzzer shuts off, should a person be involved in an accident the people in the back will be trapped in the vehicle. And the Honda dealers refuse to recall the vehicle for repair.

2002 Honda Odyssey van - back sliding doors stick. . . Can't open from inside or outside. The back sliding doors have always felt like something is in the groove, never smooth. At times, they are stuck closed or stuck open. My kids often have had to climb to the front or the rear door to get out of the van. In reading about similar stories online, it is imperative that this issue is addressed by Honda so that no child is ever stuck in the car trying to get out. Panic stricken children or parents might not be able to flee from danger should something occur.

The sliding door on my Honda Odyssey gets-2000 stuck open. I know it MA not be a crash concern, but when we get stranded somewhere in the winter with two small kids and it's 10 degrees outside, it's not a safe situation.

Both power sliding doors will not operate (close) without manual assistance. Problem started about 1 year ago with one door and has gotten worse over time. Recently the door scraped down the entire side of the van while attempting to close causing damage to the exterior of the van.

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the sliding door on the passenger side will not close tightly. The door open alarm continues to chime due to the failure. The dealer diagnosed the cause of failure as the motor on the sliding door and they made the repair. However, the failure continues. The current and failure mileages were 111,916. The dealer stated check lens on cyclops brake light, small lens access cover broken. Updated 08/28/07.
- the contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The front passenger wont open from the inside when the door handle was engaged. The dealer informed the contact that the inside cable was disconnected. There was a recall for this problem in may of 2006. The dealer repaired the front door inner handle cable. The problem recurred on the front passenger door. The contact felt the dealer should correct the problem without cost to him because it was a recurring problem. The current mileage was 50000.

When parking on a slight incline with the front doors wide open they close without notice. I almost had a crushed hand from unexpected failure of the detent to hold the door open. The local service department said it was caused by heavier doors due to side impact reinforcement. Can't the detent spring load be increased to correct this problem?.
: the contact stated the sliding doors failed to open or close and the doors opened on their own, intermittently. The dealership reset the code for the doors more than five times. The problem returned and the dealership replaced the motor, but the problem persisted. This failure occurred more in cold weather.
: the contact stated the driver's side sliding door did not close all of the way. The door had to be closed manually. The dealership determined the central roller needed to be replaced. Over the years, the contact had trouble with both the driver's and passenger's sliding doors in cold weather.

I would like to report a safety issue with the Honda Odyssey minivan. The metal hinges on the driver and passenger door do a terrible job at keeping the doors open. A slight gust of wind or if the car is on an incline, the doors will slam shut on their own. I broke a watch band and was fortunate not to severely injure my wrist one time. It probably closed on my shins before that. I won't let my children near the front doors when they are open, for fear of severe injury to some body part being slammed into the door. I make a point to have my whole body leaning on the door if it needs to stay open for some purpose now. This is really a safety issue for the whole family. The dealership seemed to recognize the symptom, but said there was no replacement part available to fix the problem. I bet other owners have the same experience. I have never driven another car that I was afraid the front door would slam shut on me - without warning - before this. Thank you - mikki bates.
The manual doors on my 2000 Honda Odyssey continually get stuck in the closed position. I had it looked at several times when I first bought the vehicle and it continues to be a problem in hot or cold, wet or dry weather. People get stuck inside, and can't get out unless they put their shoulder into the door, and people get stuck outside not being able to open the door. This is a real safety hazard. If the doors won't operate properly under noraml conditions, how likely will they operate in an accident situation? please instruct Honda to initiate a recall and fix this problem.
While opening up the door the indicator light flasheed on the dashboard and remained on. Passenger's side door handle broke off. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.
I own a 2004 Honda odessey. I was outside the vehicle and opening the passenger door, which is automatic. My 2 year-old leaned against the outside of the van against the rear panel at the same time that the automatic rear door was opening. She became lodged between the door and the van. The reverse mechanism on the door did not operate (or doesn't exist) and I had to manually pull the door off her and dislodge her from between the door and van. I reported the incident to Honda and they indicated that they have had 10 other reports thus far. My daughter did not suffer a serious injury. However, I feel the potential exists for serious injury to a child in this manner.
Driver's door locked while vehicle was parked and the engine was running. Dealership has been notified. When opening the drivers door all the doors locked causing consumer to be locked out of the vehicle.
The front doors on this van do not have adequate "notches," for the door to rest when open. Most doors are made in such a way that they can be fully and/or partially open and have the doors rest in a relatively secure state such that the door won't open or close suddenly. This is especially true if the vehicle in on a slight incline where gravity can cause the door to swing open and hit another car (as in a parking lot) or person; or close by itself and hit a passenger who might be entering or exiting. The doors on the 1999 Odyssey just seem to sit at whatever position you set them to. There is a slight feel of a notch in the fully opened position, but it's not obvious and certainly not strong enough to counter any force that tries to move it. The problems I face is that my driveway has a slight incline. Even the slightest tilt in the vehicle (nose up) will cause the doors to close by itself when let go. I have to constantly make sure that the kids are using the sliding doors (and they have their own set of problems as many other Odyssey owners already know) when there's the potential for them to use the front doors to get in and out just to prevent the younger kids from getting hurt. And of course, I have to make sure I don't get caught myself if I step out and turn around to reach for something on the floor (for instance). Recently, we had some moderately high winds and the doors blew shut with the car on level ground. I'm not talking hurricanes or even gale force winds; I'm talking the wind blowing harder than normal. These doors are dangerous; they should rest of notches like all other car doors. It shouldn't be hard to verify my claim !.
I own a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan with manual side doors. When it is damped, the doors form a suction and cannot easily be opened. They cannot be opened from the inside, and only after "yanking" on them numerous times, they can be opened from the outside. In my opinion, this is a safety hazard. I have contacted several dealerships and their recommendation is lubing the seals. I have had this done twice and it has not worked either time. One dealership informed me that they had to be able to recreate the problem in order to fix it. Since this only occurs under certain conditions, and not regularly, that would be near impossible. After not receiving any satisfaction from my dealership, I did contact Honda directly. They then contacted my dealership and the problem was fixed immediately. They replaced the weatherstripping and subseals. So far, I have had no problems (this was done less than a week ago). My concern is that the dealerships will not fix this problem right away. The buyer has to go through several steps for this to happen. I had to file a formal complaint with the company. The dealerships only recommended "lubing" the doors which, at best, is only a temporary fix to a potential dangerous problem. (the incident date I chose below is the last date of the problem. The problem began March 2003).

The vehicle was parked without prior warning, the daughter went to open the door and cargo strong arms collapsed.
Vehicles sliding doors are inoperative in cold weather. Doors unlock but don't slide open, and the door ajar warning lights comes on, but consumer is not able to lock the doors back. The dealership has made several attempts to fix the problem, but they cannot. Ts.
When using remote control to close driver's side door , door detached from vehicle.
While driving 35 mph driver's side door opened on its own. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem. A few weeks later, consumer noticed that the rear sliding door did not lock properly. Once again, vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
The front doors on my minivan will slam shut unexpectedly. If the door is open and even a slight breeze comes up the door will slam shut. If the car is parked on even a slight incline or if it is parked next to the curb on a street and leans slightly, the doors will unexpectedly slam. I am worried about my little girl getting her neck or back injured if she is between the car and the door when it slams. I think there should be some way of making the door so it will remain open easier.
Driver's side door will not close all the way. When consumer opens the door the doorm is suppose to close automatically.
Left door squeals while closing and opening. Yh.
Consumer stated both sliding doors became stuck while doors were being unlocked. Consumer applied force to door to open it, resulting in door handle breaking.
When power doors are closed using handle, if resistance is encountered, the door closes with increased force and does not shop. When a roll of paper towels is put into the door, the door destroyed the paper towels.
While traveling door indicator bell would ring stating door was not close, but consumer had closed door.
Sliding rear door does not close all the way causing door to pop open. Dealer has been contacted.
Power sliding doors failed to reverse w/o a significant amount of force. According to Honda doors must be stopped suddenly, not gradually.
Right sliding door spontaneously closed contacting (pressing on) our son, who was loading the car.
