My 2023 Honda Odyssey (only 2. 5 years old with 60,000 miles) recently had a complete tailgate failure. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a failed roof seal. This factory seal failure allowed water to leak inside the vehicle, directly shorting out the tailgate motor module causing the module to get very hot which could have caused a fire. The repair bill is $1,200. I contacted corporate Honda to request goodwill assistance, considering the vehicle is so young and a roof seal should absolutely last longer than 2. 5 years. Corporate Honda denied the assistance. They claimed a leaking roof seal is an "external factor" rather than a manufacturing defect. A vehicle's roof seal should protect the internal electronics from everyday weather. Labeling a structural seal failure as an external factor is an unacceptable excuse to avoid standing behind their product.

The speakers make a popping and crackling noise that is repeated, in a mid tone - high tone - low tone noise pattern, when the radio is on or off. It begins when the engine is turned on. It also occurs in standby/engine is not on/radio is on mode or in standby/engine is not on/radio is not on. The popping/crackling occurs whether the radio is on or not, and the radio can be heard along with the popping and crackling noise. I am guessing it is similar to the recall 23v-431, but this van VIN number does not have any recalls associated with it yet. Restarting the radio, resetting the radio, etc does not alleviate the issue. Also, the cabin camera is not working, says "problem with camera" and displays "loading" with the moving circular icon. The display remains dark for the cabin camera, and rear entertainment screen is also not accessible. Cannot recall any large bumps in the road, no collisions with anything. If the design of the cables has not changed, then the recall needs to cover all vins manufactured with the same wire assemblies and procedures, including all future vins, as this problem is clearly repeatable. The customer should not bear the burden to fix an issue that has been deemed an issue in prior year models, with no changes to the design or assembly procedure to the related components.

I am writing to formally report a serious and potentially life-threatening safety issue involving my Honda Odyssey’s locking system. For several years, I have experienced an ongoing problem in which the doors of my Odyssey have unexpectedly locked while the key fob was still inside the vehicle. This has happened to me at various stores and even at my own home. On those occasions, I was fortunate that my husband was nearby and could bring the spare key fob to unlock the vehicle. I have repeatedly brought this issue to my local Honda dealership and specifically questioned the locking system. Unfortunately, the dealership has either been unable to duplicate the problem or has made changes to the locking mechanisms without resolving the issue. The vehicle now no longer under warranty, yet the problem continues. This week, however, the issue became a terrifying and extremely serious safety emergency. My one-month-old grandson was accidentally locked inside the vehicle with the key fob. We were approximately 30 minutes from home, and the outside temperature was around 90 degrees. We had no way to unlock the vehicle ourselves. We had to contact the local police, a tow company, and emts for assistance. My grandson was trapped inside the vehicle for approximately 10 very frightening minutes before they were able to get the doors unlocked. Thankfully, my grandson was safely removed from the vehicle, but I cannot stop thinking about how differently this situation could have ended. A child, particularly an infant, can be in extreme danger inside a hot vehicle within a very short period of time. I am extremely concerned that this locking problem has continued for years despite my repeatedly bringing it to the attention of the Honda dealership. The fact that the vehicle can unexpectedly lock with the key fob inside creates a serious safety hazard. This is no longer simply an inconvenience or a mechanical annoyance—it has now resulted in an actual emergency involving an infant.

All of the warning lights came on at the same time. The dealer says the internal front camera sensor has malfunctioned and has happened so much that the part is on back order.
I was stopped at a stop sign and my 2025 Honda Odyssey shut off. I stopped the ais engaged, then when I took my foot off the brake the engine didn't engage. The car wouldn't move. I took me about 30 seconds to get the Mini van's engine to engage. This is the second time this type of incident has happened.

2025 Honda Odyssey with 21. 5k miles on it. Pulled up to a stoplight after a 3 hour drive. Auto stop turned the van off. When the light turned green the van failed to restart. Put the vehicle in park, turned it off, waited a few seconds and attempted to re-start it. Van restarted but very sluggish, like the battery was dead. Pulled in and parked. Van started normal the rest of the day. Took it to the dealer 2 days later. They noted the battery was a little low but no codes and no explanation for why it failed to restart. They checked alternator and starter and claim they are both good.
I have now had three instances within the last three months where my car has stalled out at traffic lights when the idle stop was engaged. The first two times, the car stalled out when I pressed the shut off switch for the idle stop on the center console. I am not sure about the first time since I was surprised the car stalled. The second time it happened, I hit the button twice in immediate succession and then the car stalled. The third instance was this past Thursday, 8/6/26. I did a double tap on the brake pedal when the traffic light turned green and the car stalled out. The safety of myself and my children in the car with me has been put at risk since each time it happed we were stopped at a red light at a major intersection on busy major roads. Cars were coming up fast behind us and could have rear ended either myself or the cars behind me (when there were cars behind) pushing them into my car and injuring all drivers and passengers involved. Today, I took the van into the dealership where I bought it for their service department to investigate. The VIN on the van is not covered under TSB 23-027 but I did not ask them yet whether is is covered underjuly 31, 2025 nationwide dealer bulletin ("request for visit: 2023–2025 Odyssey/passport/ridgeline auto idle stop no restart") which explicitly covers 2023–2025 Odyssey with no VIN-range cutoff, based on manufacture date after 11/2022. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure each time.
Idle stop system failed at red light. Rather than restarting when light turned green, car turned off and required being turned off and back on in order to restart.
2024 Odyssey engine shut off while in drive thru at restaurant. Unshure if auto start stop override was active. Either way the van had to be re started using the start button. Van re started on second or third attempt to re start with start button. This is a repeat occurance since having starter replaced in response to a similar problem about a year ago.
On 8. 1. 26, while operating my 2019 Honda Odyssey, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic, un-commanded automatic emergency braking event followed by a total failure of the brake-release fail-safe mechanisms. While driving in active traffic, the vehicle's forward-facing sensor system suffered a false-alarm trigger. Due to a severe design and component vulnerability, the electronic parking brake (epb) switch suffered a simultaneous internal mechanical and electronic hardware failure. Because the epb switch failed internally at the exact moment of the automatic braking event, the system failed to command a brake release. The vehicle’s wheels locked completely, leaving the vehicle completely immobilized in active traffic. This multi-system failure resulted in an immediate, life-threatening crash hazard. By random circumstance and the grace of god, a catastrophic rear-end collision was avoided, but this was a severe near-fatal safety event. A professional automotive diagnostic scan confirmed that the vehicle's computer retained 2 distinct fault incident codes documenting the internal hardware failure of the epb switch. The dealership confirmed that the system provides absolutely no advance warning to the driver, and fails entirely "in the event," meaning the vehicle remains safe until it suddenly and unpredictably locks the brakes on the highway. The vehicle was repaired out-of-pocket for $297 to replace the defective switch. I am filing this complaint because an internal electronic switch failure must never result in an un-commanded, un-releasable wheel lockup while a vehicle is in motion. This indicates a fatal flaw in Honda's braking fail-safe architecture. This issue must be investigated immediately before it results in a future serious or fatal acciden.
I was driving down the highway at highway speeds with no other vehicles around me and with my air conditioning on and the sunroof exploded.
I have needed to replace my spark plugs multiple times because of an issue where, apparently when in eco mode, the pistons in the third cylinder flood with oil that causes the spark plugs to misfire. I was informed this is an issue common to Honda Odysseys on or about may 19th, when I was experiencing a misfiring engine and brought it to aaa reynoldsburg on e broad street in reynoldsburg, OH. Honda is aware of the issue, and when I brought my car to Honda in July, after the new spark plugs started misfiring, one of the people at Honda told me the issue is because of government regulations that require lowering emissions. I don't know if that's objectively true or not, but if it's an issue Honda is aware of, as they are, they should correct the issue without charging me for the 'engine overhaul' or the new spark plugs. I have an email attachment showing the spark plug issue and other issues with the car. I don't hold Honda at fault for some of the issues, but if they know about the underlying cause that contributes to a misfire, I believe they should correct it. The video will not upload, but I am including a link to the video Honda sent me that shows the issues with the car, including the spark plugs misfiring because of one of the pistons flooding with oil. I have experienced numerous instances where my car will stall at a stop light and then fail to restart, even with switching gears to park before resuming to drive. . I have had to turn on and off the engine multiple times at a si hole stoplight before the car would resume movement. This scenario has now happened at least 3 times. I am a mom driving a minivan of kids and this is concerning for our safety. These are not long stop lights. Sometimes even at a stop light I feel a strange pulling sensation.

The two most recent incidents occurred on xxx. During one incident, we were stopped at a red light on a road with a 55-mph speed limit. The vehicle shut off and did not restart normally when traffic began moving. We were left immobilized in an active traffic lane while vehicles approached and passed us at approximately 55 mph. We had difficulty getting the vehicle restarted and moving again. This presents a serious rear-end collision risk because approaching drivers expect traffic to move when the light changes. Four children regularly ride in this vehicle, and we do not believe it is safe to continue driving. We contacted the Honda dealership again after the battery replacement failed to correct the problem. We were told that unless technicians could duplicate the issue, there was nothing further they could do. Because the failure is intermittent, we cannot predict when it will occur, but it has happened approximately 10 times and has continued after Honda’s attempted repair. We also opened a case with american Honda motor CO. , inc. Honda case number: xxx VIN: [xxx] vehicle: 2025 Honda Odyssey approximate mileage at most recent incident: 15000 we are reporting this because the vehicle can unexpectedly leave our family stranded in an active traffic lane and unable to move out of the path of approaching traffic. Our 2025 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped. This has occurred approximately 10 times. The vehicle was previously taken to an authorized Honda dealership for this issue. The dealership diagnosed the battery as the cause and replaced it, but the same problem continued afterward. The two most recent incidents occurred on 7/21. During one incident, we were stopped at a red light on a road with a 55-mph speed limit. The infotainment screen randomly shuts off and displays the errors "network communication lost" and "most net off". This has happened numerous times while in the middle of backing up and using the backup camera that normally displays on that screen. We took it to the dealership for repairs of the problem in 2025 and after changing a wiring harness, the screen itself, and then the harness again, they thought they had fixed it but the issue continued to happen and has increased in frequency since then. Honda has a recall that includes our model (NHTSA recall no. : 23v-431) but we were apparently not included in it and their press release on it estimates 50% of vehicles of the year and model are affected. It's unclear what arbitrary data was used to determine effected vehicles but it's obvious by the amount of discourse about it online that it affects more than their initial estimate. Many people, like us, have tried to have it repaired at a dealership to no avail.

I was stopped a stop light and the auto start/stop engaged. When I let go of the brakes when the light turned green, the engine did not restart and an error message came on the dashboard. The parking brake light on the dashboard came on too.
This is at lesat the second time that our odessey has failed to restart at an interesction following the start-stop system turning off the engine the when stopped at a red light. After a couple of moments of trying to restart, it started again.
Auto idle stop/start system malfunctions intermittently. The car will shut off at a red light/stop sign then will not automatically restart. Will require shifting to park and restarting the car at the intersection.
Waiting at traffic light to turn left onto dixie hwy from kyles lane in ft. Wright, ky. After taking foot off brake, car went into park by itself. Unable to put into drive or put on hazard lights. After calling 911, turned car off, then it restarted. Cars behind were honking. Thankfully an accident did not occur. Will take to Honda dealer on July 20, 2026 to check it out.
Sometimes the engine wouldn't start. Sometimes the engine would be slow to start. Checked battery and nothing wrong with it. Took it to Honda and asked to look into common starter problem. They did say the starter was faulty and replaced it.
Our van is experiencing auto idle stop failure to restart. We experienced it one time last month (June 2026) and then again 2 days ago. I also experienced it 2 summers ago in 2024. We noticed it seems to happen in the heat and when we have been driving a while. In 2024 and then June 2026, I was able to quickly turn off and restart the car. Two days ago, we were stuck at a busy intersection with the car unable to start but also unable to turn off the car nor switch gears. After 5 min with multiple security alerts flashing it seems as though the computer timed out and we were able to start the car. We drove another 300 miles this weekend on a road trip with no further issues but we were sure to manually turn off auto stop each time. We are concerned about the safety implications of being stopped at traffic stop due to auto stop.
When I stopped at a stoplight at a busy intersection during rush hour traffic my auto shut off engaged like it was supposed to. When I released my foot off the brake for the car to restart so I could drive the car's dash started flashing and displaying instructions to engage the brake and put the car into drive, except I was in drive. It would not restart and no matter how many times I pressed the brake and the drive button nothing changed and it kept flashing the same message at me. I attempted to the the car off and when I tried to restart it, it flashed the battery light and would not restart. All electrical systems would turn on, but the car would not restart. It took a solid 5 minutes and turning the car off and on for it to finally restart. Then subsequent times at following lights before I turn the auto shut off off it would restart but struggled to. I have taken it to the dealership and called Honda corporate and both tell me it is not throwing a code and therefore nothing is wrong with it.
2018 Honda Odyssey elite I am reporting an unresolved issue stemming from a failed recall remedy for NHTSA safety recall 23v-431 (Honda TSB 20-049) regarding the most bus fiber-optic network. My vehicle has been taken to an authorized Honda dealership twice to receive the official recall repair (replacing the fakra network connectors). Despite these two repair attempts, the network defect continues to escalate. The vehicle experiences sudden, violent, and near-constant loud popping and clicking noises through the audio speakers while driving. This occurs both at random and predictably when driving over bumps. Following the increase in these network pops, the vehicle's blu-ray player completely failed and stopped working. Furthermore, the central infotainment screen frequently freezes, reboots, and displays an "audio connection lost" error message, which also cuts out the fm radio tuner entirely. Crucially, this fiber-optic network failure recently caused a total loss of the digital instrument cluster and speedometer while driving. While this complete cluster blackout has only occurred one time so far, it presents an unpredictable and dangerous safety hazard, as I am left with no knowledge of my current speed or critical vehicle safety alerts while in motion. The manufacturer’s standard recall remedy of swapping plastic connector clips is ineffective for my vehicle. The recurring failures after two repairs indicate a permanently compromised factory wiring harness or a damaged network module that is continuously dropping the signal. The manufacturer needs to authorize a thorough diagnostic and full harness/module replacement to permanently resolve this safety defect before the instrument cluster fails again.

Rear windshield with possible spontaneous shatter first noticed at noon today. No signs of impact or vandalism. Car last driven 2 days prior and appeared normal last night. Vertical line fractures at the very edge of the glass on both sides concerning for manufacturing defect. Police report filed, no repairs made yet.
Intermittent auto start/stop failure: when stopped at a red light or stop sign, the car sometimes completely dies. Fails to restart: releasing the brake pedal does not automatically restart the engine. Manual restart required: I have to manually restart the vehicle and shift back into drive to proceed. Traffic concern: this process takes 10 to 15 seconds, holding up the traffic behind me.
When on a stop either stoplight or stopsign the vehicle will completely shutoff. I will need to manually start the car.
Stopped in heavy traffic in a four lane highway. Auto start/stop shut the engine down as expected. Traffic ahead cleared. I took my foot off of the brake to step on the gas. The engine didn't start up, and the radio and all lights inside went blank. Traffic behind me approached at about 45 mph. And were swerving around to avoid hitting my dead vehicle from the rear. I pushed the start button. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Several times more with my foot on the brake, or off the brake. Nothing. I put it in park and kept trying the start button. Finally it started, the radio and dash display came on, and from then on it operated as usual. Scared the hell out of us. There was no warning that anything in the car was malfunctioning before this happened. Took it to the dealer. They looked it over, kept it overnight. Told me the next day that the battery can get drained too much if the air/cond is on max and the start/stop feature doesn't like that. They used a machine to drain the battery and recharge it and they tell me now that it should be good. I don't believe one has to be aware not to use the air on max while the start/stop is enabled. I'm afraid to drive the car now! our lives were in danger.
While driving from [xxx] to [xxx], all of the safety systems started to fail. We had driven about 45 minutes from our starting point. As the system started to fail, they would flash across the screen on the dashboard saying each one that was failing. We pulled over to the side of the road, and my husband popped the hood and flames started coming out of the hood, closest to the dashboard and windshield. We called 911 and by the time they reached our location, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My rear view camera. Water (from the rain) often gets into it, making it blurry and unusable.
On July 4, my vehicle suddenly shut down. The dash lit up and then the engine just died. This happened twice that day. And again multiple times on July 9. The battery was replaced recently.

While stopped at traffic lights or in traffic, the auto idle stop system activates, but the engine sometimes fails to restart when I release the brake pedal. The vehicle becomes disabled in traffic, and I have to shift the transmission into park (p) to restart the engine.
1st concern- while in an intersection the van powered off after lights on dashboard said something about a system failure. I tried restarting vehicle several times as I was really nervous being in an intersection and it finally started after a few tries. This same thing happened l, to my husband, while parked in our garage about to leave. 2 nd concern- last week on xxxi drove to [xxx] for a short vacation and while at a stop the dashboard had multiple warnings going off 1) electrical power steering system problem 2) hill start assist problem. Vehicle may roll upon brake release 3) adaptive cruise control problem 4);power steering system problem. I called roadside assistance and we waited about an hour and a half. He used a tester and said all was coming back fine but to take van to a dealer the next day. We took it to egg harbor Honda dealership and they said if the codes have cleared, which they had, then there is nothing they can do and to just take it to our dealer when we return home. I have an appointment for tomorrow at xxx at 915 am at [xxx] of Honda in abington, PA. I have pictures of all the "2nd concern" warnings. During the 1st concern I was driving and did not feel comfortable capturing the warning lights with my phone camera. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
