On [xxx], while driving in traffic, my 2018 Honda Odyssey suddenly and without warning shifted itself into park. The vehicle slammed to a stop in the middle of an intersection, stranding my family and creating a serious risk of collision and injury. The vehicle would not move afterward and had to be towed from the scene. After the failure, the dashboard displayed multiple warnings: “transmission problem,” “stop driving when safe,” “emission system problem,” and *“blind spot information system problem. ” the gear shift indicator also blinked. The Odyssey has remained undrivable since the incident. The vehicle is at stockton 12 Honda in sandy, utah, where the dealer confirmed a hard transmission failure (ro #[xxx]). Honda corporate opened two cases (#[xxx] and #[xxx]). Despite my repeated calls and emails, Honda’s assigned case manager verbally denied coverage on sept 12, 2025, stating the denial would only be reflected in Honda’s internal case notes. This failure is identical to the defect described in NHTSA recall 19v-299, in which the transmission control unit (tcu) can reboot due to low voltage and cause the transmission to shift into park while driving. Although my VIN is not currently flagged, my Odyssey ex-l uses the same zf 9-speed transmission and tcu as affected trims. I have a tow record, witnesses, and video evidence documenting the event. The vehicle remains disabled, leaving my family without safe transportation. This is a serious safety defect that should require investigation and expansion of the existing recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I think there is a problem with the auto idle stop system that has resulted in the starter needing to be replaced. But, the dealership says nothing is wrong. The auto idle stop malfunction lights up when I let off the brake. I have gotten in the habit of turning off the ais every time I started the car. However, it still is hesitating to start, which leads me to believe the ais has killed the starter.
It was the same thing as my last three reports. The vehicle stalls in a way that freezes the vehicle where I cannot turn it off or on or engage or remove the parking brake. I cannot put it in gear or in neutral. Last time it stalled me in the middle of a seven lane highway. This time it was in the middle of a hospital entrance. I feel like I am gambling with my life and the dealership won’t listen to me! how many times does this have to happen??.

I was driving and the message power tailgate problem popped up on dashboard of Honda Odyssey 2020. When I got to my destination I tried to open the trunk and it would not open. I took the car to Honda and they said there's water somewhere that caused problem to the tailgate. I spent over $1,000 to fix it and two weeks after getting the car back, that same message popped up and the trunk would not open again. I did research on this and found out that this is a known issue/defect for all 2018-2021 models. Honda did not take any responsibility and blamed me for not taking the car to a body shop to fix whatever issue that's causing water to infiltrate. I found that there has been class action lawsuits involving Honda tailgate issue for a defective seal on 2018-2021 Honda Odyssey models that allow water to infiltrate, yet Honda will not recall and fix it.

I bought my van used in March of 2025. Within 6 weeks I noticed when accelerating my van hesitated about 3 seconds before going when I went to take-off. This has caused great concern . Last week it caused me a accident because of the delay in acceleration. Luckily I was not hurt but did cause a accident. I feel they're should be a recall to fix this after reading many complaints about the same issue.
On our 2019 Honda Odyssey the passenger sliding door is failing to latch closed and stay closed or locked. The door is popped out in the back because the latch mechanism will not engage and electronically lock as part of the normal closing sequence like the other door. From what I can tell, this is the same issue reported in service bulletin 18-128, however when I called Honda about it, they said my VIN was not included in that recall. I am concerned because it seems like the same problem and it creates an unsafe situation where the door is not fully latching, even when manually closing the door and trying to lock it. I can hear excessive noise from that side of the vehicle, and the warning message flashed saying there is an issue with the right side sliding door, and the dome lights come on with an audible warning tone. I am unable to put passengers in the back of the van and needed to be very careful when driving it to the dealership for diagnosis yesterday. I'm still waiting to hear from them. I think this issue should be covered under recall work, since it seem like it is the same issue described in the service bulletin 18-128.

As you are driving the car, out of nowhere, you will hear a very loud chainsaw noise coming from the engine compartment that will last a few seconds, immediately after the noise the car seems to roll as if the engine is not in gear or there is no gas going into the engine even though you are pressing on the gas pedal. This has happened around 5 times over the last month. It doesn't happen every time we drive the minivan. This can be very dangerous as you can imagine that when you are pressing on the gas pedal as you are driving at 30, 40, 60 mph, and the car engine just seems to disengage for a few seconds. I took the minivan to the Honda dealership. They first said to change the transmission oil first to see if that fix the problem. They said if by changing the transmission oil didn't fix the problem then they would need to replace the transmission. Within the first week after getting the fluid changed the problem came back. The minivan is now back at the dealership, and I expect that the transmission is going to be replaced. The minivan doesn't have even 50,000 miles yet. No warning lights has shown up. The problem seems to come and go without any warning.
Dear NHTSA advisor, thank you for regarding my request for warranty coverage for the critical misfire and overheating defect with my 2012 Odyssey Honda engine 3. 5l engine. Odyssey, as described in Honda’s service technical bulletin 13-081. I must reiterate the severity of my situation: the part required for repair is quoted at $7,500. 00—and that does not include labor. This amount far exceeds the current market value of my vehicle, effectively making it impossible to afford repairs without Honda’s intervention, it’s asafety defect & known manufacturer issue. The misfiring and overheating problems represent major safety risks for my family and anyone who operates the vehicle. This is not routine maintenance, but a substantial defect that Honda has addressed in its own technical bulletin. I have adhered diligently to Honda’s maintenance schedule throughout my ownership. My foward facing multipurpose camera quit work causing all my adas systems to suddenly stop working. While researching the issue I found alot of people are having this issue per the Honda Odyssey online forums. And staff at the local Honda dealer that repaired system for over 2500. 00 stated that he has seen an increase in this issue with the camera system. My car was no longer cover under warranty and the extended warranty I purchased refused to cover said repair. Just thought maybe Honda has a issue with the camera and maybe should find a fix and do a recall before this failure causes an accident.
The foward looking camera is failing and causing all the adas not to work and has all the lights on the dash. The code comes back as u3000-49 which is a multi purpose camera failure.
What happened? when I took my 2015 Honda Odyssey (VIN: 5fnrl5h68fb081134) to a Honda dealer for service, I was told Honda’s internal database incorrectly shows the vehicle as having a salvage/junk title. Minnesota dmv records confirm my title is clean. Component/system affected: this error prevented the dealer from performing warranty-covered inspections and potential repairs on safety systems including brakes, electronic stability control, and adaptive cruise control. These systems are still in use and available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: by denying service due to an incorrect salvage status, the vehicle could continue operating with undetected or unrepaired safety defects, putting myself, my passengers, and other drivers at risk. Confirmation: the problem was confirmed by the Honda dealer’s service department, which refused service solely due to Honda’s salvage designation. Inspection history: the vehicle has been inspected by the dealer but no repairs were performed because of the incorrect salvage status. The minnesota dmv verified that my title is clean and unbranded. Warning signs/messages: there were no warning lamps prior to the incident; the issue arose only when the VIN was entered into Honda’s system for service.

Was driving on my way to work and I heard a sharp sound while going up a hill. I then got warnings that said transmission issue, pull over immediately when safe and the car shifted itself into neutral. I was in the middle of traffic and lost all acceleration controls, while being forced out of the drive gear. I lost all speed and had to move through traffic and get to a side street. The same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. It was covered by a warranty but I still was experiencing losses of car power or stalling.
Infotainment system failure which means I am unable to use the bacj up camera or the hands free link until I replace the entire infotainment center.
The idle start/stop feature is not starting back up after stopping. This occurs after driving for for some time. I have had this happen to me in traffic where I am not able to quickly start my car back up. Sometimes it requires me to turn my car completely off on the highway. This also happens at traffic lights and I am not able to go after the light turns green. I took my car in to have it looked at and they said they saw the problem in the logs and it was that my battery was low. They replaced my battery however I am still having this problem with the brand new battery. An error shows on the dash but I can't remember it word for word.

My car have never in an any accident but my distance radar sensor not working. And it’s very risky to drive under this condition and it’s very big safety for me and my life so help me to fix this issue.
My vehicle was at the dealer for service in March of 2025. At that time they performed recall 23-008 although the vehicle did not have issues with the idle stop system. Since some time in June, at multiple occasions, the vehicle shifted to park on its own when restarting from idle stop. Last night, the vehicle fully shut off and lost all electrical power when restarting from idle stop leaving me stranded in the dark at a busy intersection without the ability to turn on my hazard lights. The vehicle repowered after a few minutes. When the system restarted, the info-tainment system activated the anti theft software which happens during full power loss.
When’s stopping the vehicle it shut off and stall to come back on or cut off completely and when I try to restart the vehicle it take several attempts before coming back on. It happens often if I dont turn off the the auto feature.
The auto idle stop system causes the engine to stall or fail to restart after being stopped. The error that comes on sometimes says "collision mitigation system problem" on the dashboard, or sometimes "transmission problem. Apply parking brake when parked", but either way it happens when I release the brake to drive again after a stop when the auto idle stop comes on. To fix, I'll have to turn off the car and turn it back on.
Upon coming to a complete stop on the freeway, the idle engine feature stopped the engine. Upon letting go of the gas, the engine wouldn't restart and the electrical systems in the car malfunctioned showing a restart of the car would be needed. After trying to restart the car, the engine wouldn't turn over. After pushing the off button and starting the car again, it finally restarted. This created a hazardous situation as there was the potential for the car behind us to rear end us since we were at a complete stop on the freeway. After the software update, this happened again at a right turn on a local street.
On two differed occasions the ais system failed and left my car disabled at an intersection. I was sitting at a traffic light and the car died when I took my foot off the break and attempted to proceed through the intersection. Additionally, I have a faulty seat/seat belt. The seat does not register an occupant or indicates the occupant is not buckled in when they actually have fastened their seat belt.
The moonroof spontaneously shattered.
Collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) my 2019 Honda Odyssey slammed on the brakes while traveling 70+ mph on a clear freeway. There was no warning and nothing in the road. I have also had issues with the braking warning light flashing for no reason while traveling down the roadway. I called the Honda dealership and inquired about the braking issues and was told unfortunately it can happen, especially if I drive on windy roads.
Lift gate sags. Lift gate sporadically closes without any activation. It does sound warning prior to closing. Lift gate has come down on person causing bruises more than a few times.
When I start the vehicle, I consistently get warnings for acc problem, lake keep assist problem, collision mitigation problem, road departure mitigation problem, and auto high beam problem. This occurs every time I have driven the vehicle for the past week. From cursory research, this issue commonly appears to be related to a failure of the camera module located next to the rearview mirror.
I purchased a used vehicle from an auto auction. After the purchase, I discovered through carfax and autocheck reports that the vehicle had a history of severe damage and an odometer discrepancy, both of which were not disclosed prior to the sale. The vehicle was sold with a clean title that stated “actual mileage,” but available records contradict this, indicating possible odometer fraud and prior total loss or structural damage. This raises concerns of title washing — where previous branded or salvage titles are "washed" clean through certain state dmvs — and calls into question the accuracy of the title issued shortly before the sale. The clean title was issued just one day before the auction sale, despite existing documentation showing serious history issues. The current situation poses a potential safety risk if the structural integrity was compromised in the previous damage. I still have the documents and inspection results available upon request. No resolution has been offered despite raising the issue with the auction.

My 2019 Honda Odyssey’s power liftgate control model failed due to water intrusion. My liftgate started to open and close while I was driving, would close on me while loading/unloading the trunk, and would also open while parked in parking lots nearly hitting passing vehicles. It is truly a huge safety concern. Once the old module was out, I found extensive corrosion and rust on the module and its housing. As well, the entire bracket inside of the vehicle is rusted. There appears to be a defect in the manufacturers body seams that is allowing water to enter.
For the second time in less than 4 months my rear window has exploded into thousands of pieces. The broken bits explode everywhere. First time was 1. 15. 25. Second time was 5. 3. 25. I was parked both times. I had other windows/doors either cracked or open. Both times was during 20mph winds.

Honda issued a recall of the most bus network which was done on my vehicle on 7/21/23. However, recently the vehicle started making static noise from the speakers whether the radio was on or not and eventually displayed a "network communication error most network off" error screen on the display temporarily. During these outages the display is completely unavailable and presents a hazard since the rear camera is unavailable. Since the display reboots and only happens intermittently the dealer was unable to reproduce the error and believes the vehicle is "operating to Honda specifications. " despite the fact that we have photos and videos of this issue occurring multiple times! this is a known issue in multiple other year/make/models of Honda vehicles which were eventually recalled. Clearly they have not corrected the issue in the 2022 Honda Odyssey and should be subject to dealer recall and replaced and repaired.
The power sliding door on the passenger side failed to operate properly. After receiving a recall repair related to the sliding door, the door stopped functioning correctly, directly after I picked it up—it would not close or latch fully. The door assembly and motor mechanism are still on the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. 4-5 months later the driver side (same door) that was malfunctioning now will not close, I had to bring the car in for the 3rd time and they said the pinch sensor is bad and want $812 dollars to fix it. I have had the car from 2019 with no issues at all with the door. They claim it has nothing to do with the recall. I filed a goodwill form and they denied the claim. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the sliding door will not close or latch securely, which poses a safety risk while driving, especially with passengers or children in the vehicle. The malfunction could cause the door to open unexpectedly or prevent the vehicle from being secured properly. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. The issue was first noticed immediately after the dealer performed the recall repair. I had to return the next day, and the dealer temporarily restored operation. However, the same issue reoccurred about four months later, and the door is now inoperable again. Yes. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealer both during and after the recall repair. No police or insurance inspection has been conducted. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warning lamps or dashboard messages appeared. The problem first appeared immediately after the recall service was completed.
My 2013 Honda Odyssey is experiencing a serious engine malfunction related to excessive oil consumption and spark plug fouling. On April 12, 2025, the check engine light came on and the vehicle began shaking. A diagnostic inspection at a Honda dealership revealed dtc p0301 (cylinder 1 misfire). Three spark plugs in bank 1 were heavily fouled with oil. The technician recommended piston ring replacement, noting that oil had leaked into the combustion chamber. This issue is consistent with well-known engine problems associated with Honda's vcm (variable cylinder management) system. Tsbs such as a13-081 and 11-033 have addressed similar issues in the past, but my vehicle is no longer covered under the extended warranty. I am a low-income International student currently living in the u. S. With my family. This defect creates financial hardship and safety concern. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter as a safety-related engine defect and urge the manufacturer to offer proper recall support. - mileage at most recent diagnosis: 116,520 miles - current mileage: 117,300 miles.

Sunroof exploded while driving on the highway.
My power liftgate ceased to open or close via any electronic means (button on dash, button on remote, tailgate left button on back of vehicle). The tailgate control module in the rear driver side panel was full of water when it was removed. The circuit board back side was covered with moisture damage which has shorted out the board.
Not sure about what component could have triggered but I started seeing smoke and fire from the front hood. I managed to stop and exit the call to call emergency services. The fire aggravated that the whole car was burned. The dealer was notified as well as the Honda but yet to hear back. The claim is also filed with insurance company that they indicated to be getting custody of the vehicle to inspect.
