36 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/07/2014

The trunk lift (from an open position) of our 2008 Honda Odyssey ex-l unexpectedly fell on top of my wife's head while she was using the trunk area. Her injury was not serious, and consequently we determined the failure was the gas struts that assist in opening and closing the hatch. Honda already has a recall for the same issue for powered liftgate for 2008-9 models, but it doesn't include manual opening Odysseys, claiming that a degraded strut in a manual liftgate will be noticeable. This was not the case for us. Considering Odysseys are built for families, I feel this is a major safety issue since my older children frequently operate the tailgates without our help. Since the reason for the liftgate failure is the same for manual and powered liftgates, Honda should extend the recall (or at least a notification) to all 2008-9 Odyssey owners. Just because we didn't purchase the top of the line Odyssey, our safety shouldn't be any less than the touring owners.

38 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

When the vehicle is turned on, the computer(s) malfunctions -- scope of failure is not known; symptom is that center display screen on dash (referred to as "intelligent multi-information display", or "I-mid", in manuals) is blacked out, except that it shows yellow gridlines as if rear camera were on, however rear camera is disabled and all other functions that would be visible on the center display screen (including safety features such as rearview camera, "lanewatch"/side-view camera, as well as all vehicle settings, system settings, camera settings, audio settings, etc. ) are inoperative. Screen remains blacked out with affected systems inoperative for the duration that the car remains on, regardless of whether car is in park, drive, reverse, etc. , and whether car is moving or stopped. If the car is turned off and then on again, so far it has returned to normal -- however it would not be possible to do this while driving. This has happened repeatedly -- approximately 10 times to date.

39 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2013 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

We have discovered that the 2013 models of this vehicle do not sound the beeper if the driver or front passenger door is open while driving. Page 77 of the owner's manual clearly states "the beeper sounds and the indicator comes on if any door or the tailgate is open while driving. " we have contacted the dealer and America Honda and they say they can do nothing about this feature not working as stated in the manual and the vehicle is not designed to alert the driver to this hazard as stated in the manual. This could be quite dangerous to smaller individuals should someone be driving without a door completely closed. This also makes one wonder how many other safety features Honda claims to have in their vehicles that do not work as they claim and have the potential to cause injury and Honda is hiding from the consumers.

40 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

The first time we had an issue we were in the country and we stopped and got out of the car. When we got back in the door would not close. We put the switch on manual however the door would still not close. We had it looked at and the line that works the door needed to be cut to close the door. Within a week the other door started not opening and closing properly even when it was set for manual use. We were the driving down the road and the door flew open. We did contact the dealership and they indicated they are aware of the problem however its the consumers responsibilty to pay to have this safety issue fixed.

41 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/06/2013

I parked my van and opened the manual rear passenger door. The rear door latch would not operate when we tried to close the door. This is a significant safety issue since I have a 9 year old son who rides in the seat adjacent to the defective door. I took it to the Honda dealer and was told that replacing the latch and also the defective roller arm would cost $296.

42 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/24/2012

Doors do not work properly. They do not close at times. Our passenger door won't close. When you drive, it opens automatically. This was recalled in 2000 but not 2001. There is no way to keep it shut manually. Someone could fall out, van is useless. Costs an arm and a leg to fix.

43 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The driver's side lock actuator began to malfunction causing the doors to lock automatically and failing to unlock with remote. The only way to unlock the vehicle is to manually unlock with the key and the only way to fully lock the vehicle is to push down on driver's side lock button (on superior portion of door). This failure resulted in my two small children being locked inside a vehicle with the keys inside. At the time, they were too young to unbuckle themselves and get out of the vehicle. The problem began in the middle of the summer when temperatures inside a vehicle are dangerously high. We were told the repair would be approximately $400. In addition to the initial locking of the vehicle, it has posed additional safety hazards as people must wait on driver to manually open door, or to lock door. Security has been greatly affected. It is difficult to corral children while trying to unlock vehicle as well as posing security issues when in unsavory areas of town. As we understand, this has happened on a number of Honda vehicle models.

44 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2009 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/21/2012

My tailgate support struts failed in 2012. They were subject to a recall and were replaced. They have now failed again in the same manner. I had to replace them again 2/12/2015 at a cost of $!56. 31. Just as when they were recalled, the struts stopped supporting the weight of the door so that when it opens, it suddenly comes down again. It has hit me in the head as I reached into the rear to grab a bag. Even when you open it manually, the struts cannot hold the door open and it slumps down about halfway open. This is the exact same issue that caused the struts to be recalled in 2012. This is a design defect in the 2009 Honda Odyssey and Honda should pay for any repairs.

45 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/31/2011

The manual sliding doors (both sides) are extremely difficult to open. Children and adults are constantly having to pull with extreme force to open the doors from the inside and the outside. From the inside, passengers have to lean into the door while pulling back to open it. I have taken it to the dealer multiple times with the problem, however they simply spray the seals which does not fix the problem. I also called Honda customer service and they basically told me I should have purchased an ex model with automatic doors. In the event of an accident, I suspect passengers will have much difficulty exitting the rear of this vehicle.

46 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/28/2009

While driving on the freeway, the front driver window suddenly dropped down without any action on my part. The sudden nature of the window dropping, the rush of air coming into the vehicle, and the loud freeway noise caused me to redirect my focus from the roadway. After pulling off the freeway, I attempted to manually reposition the window to no avail. I had to slowly drive back home and park the minivan until my mechanic could repair the problem. The mechanic had to replace the power window regulator at a cost of $200 for parts and labor. On December 20, 2014, the same issue occurred on the front passenger window. This time the cost at the dealer was $340. I researched this issue on the internet and found that many Honda Odyssey owners have experienced this inherent problem. This is a safety issue should the problem occur while driving. Honda needs to issue a recall and/or reimburse current owners for the cost of power window regulator replacements.

47 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

The passenger side power sliding door will not open/close using any of the controls. We have to close it manually but it won't latch completely so we are forced to drive with the door slightly ajar. This is a huge safety issue for me with my two daughters sitting there. Because the door is slightly open we have to turn off the main power switch to the sliding doors to avoid having the constant buzzing noise. This means they are locked in the back seat and unable to open the doors in the event of an emergency. This has happened multiple times even after trips to the Honda dealership to have it fixed. This is a huge safety issue and needs to be addressed by Honda.

48 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/03/2008

Have had a few problems since purchased van new. First problem around "08 is a vibrating-shuddering felt in steering wheel. At about 35- 45 mph and just before the "econo" would kick in, I would feel the vibrating start. If I increase my speed quickly and get on up to about 50mph, it would stop. Thought it needed a tune-up. . Did that-still vibrated. Thought it was transmission-had it flushed-still vibrated. It wasn't a constant problem back in "08, but irritating. Now in 2013 it is many times a day and shudders very badly. Took it to Honda dealer today about the escalated vibrations. Test drove it and said vibrations were from torque converter and needed to replace transmission. Also needed timing belt replaced. I did'nt expect to hear transmission-expected to hear rear motor mount(600. 00) needed replacing. I specifically took my van in to check the motor mount. When he said torque converter/transmission I asked him what the motor mounts looked like. He said the tech did'nt mention that. No one likes to hear they are about to inccur some expensive repairs, but I did'nt expect to hear transmission replacement at 170,000 miles. The fellow at the dealership stated that"heck, that is really good for the 2005 Odyssey". Our Nissan truck had over 300,000 miles and our Dodge duelly has over 200,000 miles neither with transmission issues. So, this issue still remains unrepaired-waiting on estimate from dealership. Yikes! the passenger sliding door has not operated correctly for 3-4 years now. It does'nt close all the way. If you open the sliding door, when you close it itwill beep like its not closed. You have to get out and manually slam it shut. They said it may be the motor. . . Too much to fix it. . So we just don't use it. Recently while pulling into parking spaces,I hear a whinning sound and steering is more difficult.

49 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/25/2004

Both of my power sliding passenger doors on my 2004 Honda odyessy are broken. There is a button to shut it off and manually use the doors but it does not work. The doors open on their own and never close properly. The spring broke off of one of the doors and scratched that side of my van. There are many complaints about this but Honda will not cover it!.
