1 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2018 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/05/2019

Transmission jerks, hesitates and/or clunks when changing and/or attempting to change to next higher gear, hesitates and/or reverts to next lower gear when it should shift to next gear. This happens when driving on level surfaces and down hills causing passengers to jerk forwarded suddenly and without expectation. Honda dealer kept vehicle for 2 days and did not find any issues. Purchased vehicle new in April 2018, had same problem since week #1. When shifting manually does not experience hesitation or gear hunting but clanking still exists. These events happen regardless of road surface type, speed or incline of road. I noticed a transmission fluid leak at the transmission gasket during 1st oil change at 7500 miles, undecides to , (I. E. , from park to / from drive; into/out.

3 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/08/2015

On 9-9-15, our 2005 Honda Pilot abruptly stopped on emerald parkway - police assisted. Leaking fluid was clumpy red/brown and vehicle hot. Shop today says radiator and transmission and possibly engine need replaced and instructed us to contact a Honda dealer. This is our second safety complaint on this vehicle - 1st was dangerous "phantom braking" or inadvertant application on brakes in 2012, which Honda subsequently recalled in 2013. After reading thru complaints, I see the exact same problem - transmission line in radiator suddenly came loose and transmission fluid leaked into radiator and coolant leaked into transmission, ruining both has occurred numerous times. We anticipate a very expensive repair. . . . We are thankful this did not occur on the highway, during rush hour or with any of our 3 kids in the vehicle, and are angered at Honda's failure to recall this as well - as some said they did for 2003 and 2004 models?.

5 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

While driving along a rural 2 lane highway with no one behind me, the transmission appeared to slip and the engine rpm went way up. The truck slowed down. This lasted 3 or 4 seconds and then went back to normal. In a few minutes, I stopped at the light entering the village of saranac lake, NY. The 2005 Honda Pilot stopped running. I tried to restart and nothing happened at all. I put my flashers on and opened the hood. I saw a liquid that looked like chocolate milk leaking under the engine. After it was towed to a garage, the mechanic said he thought the radiator leaked and allowed the antifreeze to mix with the transmission fluid. The truck would need a new radiator and maybe a new trans and or engine. If someone had been behind me when this happened, it could have caused an accident because it caused the vehicle to slow down and the brake lights did not come on. I read that over 1 million 2003 and 2004 Honda Pilots were recalled for the same problem.

6 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

7 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

I bought the 2005 Pilot ex in 2009. Brought it back to the dealer after 1 month of driving for hesitation in the transmission. Dealer couldn't find the problem. Thought this must be how it shifts. Have always noticed a slight radiator fluid smell. No one could find any leak. About 3 years later at 110,000 miles, transmission fluid and radiator fluid mixed when the radiator gave out. We were out of town and on our way home leaving us on the side of the road to be towed back into town (approx 30 miles) and had to spend an extra night until the repairs were finished. $637. 00 repair for the radiator. 2 months later noticed the air conditioner not working. Took it to our local guy who said it wasn't hooked up right when they replaced the radiator. Correct hookup, pressure test and recharge air system was $186. 00. A week later after explaining the radiator problem to my local repair guy we had the transmission flushed twice to try to save us from future transmission trouble. $292. 00 for the transmission flush related to the radiator failure. Now a month and a half later we have a shudder between 35 and 45 mph and a noise at about 55 mph that sound like a piece of metal dropping off the car. Asked the local repair shop and transmission repair shop and they both said the transmission was damaged and needed to be replaced. Went with the transmission place, after reading all the similar stories of other 2005 Honda Pilots, the dealers will over charge and not even admit to this known issue. The stories of the same problem happening again made us go with the most competent repair shop who does this every day. So it's the fourth of July and we are without the family car today. Should be able to pick it up tomorrow with the rebuilt transmission for $3,915. 00. Total bill; $5,031. 00 for a failed radiator. This is wrong. Honda should acknowledge this issue and be made to recall it.

8 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

I was driving to work when 2005 Honda Pilot stated trailing a liquid. Drove a quarter of a mile to work to find coolant and transmission fluid leaking from the front of the vehicle. Had it towed to a transmission shop found that the radiator failed causing coolant and transmission fluid to leak out. Radiator replaced, transmission flushed and serviced, and coolant system flushed final repair cost $900. This is a common failure for the Honda Pilot and should be checked out and resolved for others.

12 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/23/2011

I bought 2011 Honda Pilot ex-l res at the end of April, 2011. I noticed there was a pink color oil leak (3" size) on my garage floor on the first day after about 60 mile drive. After then, it kept leaking every time after running the car. I have Honda dealer checked it yesterday. I was told that was the transmission fluid leak. I was shocked when I heard this. It is a brand new car and transmission oil leaked at the first day when I drove from dealer back to home (~60 miles). The dealer could not locate where exactly the leak comes from and waiting for the response and decision from Honda corp to either fix it it replace the transmission. I searched and knew that there are lots the same issues on Pilot. The more you drive, the worse the problem is even after repairing it. I wish I knew this issue before I bought this junk.

13 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

I have a 2005 Honda Pilot with 118k miles. The car seemed to be running fine. I commute about 40 miles to work so today when I got to work I noticed the fan was still running. When I stepped out of the vehicle it was heavily leaking a substance that looked like chocolate milk. I had the car towed to a body shop and they informed me that the radiator pumped fluids into my transmission and now I need a new radiator and transmission. After researching online this seems to be a major issue with Honda's. Seems way too early to have such an issue.

14 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/09/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Pilot. While driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, the engine began to rev highly when the accelerator pedal was depressed. Suddenly, the transmission failed to respond. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. The failure occurred without warning. Roadside assistance was called to the scene and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated that the failure was related to the factory clip attached to the clamp of the transmission line. There was excessive fluid leaking from the transmission. The clip should have been removed by the manufacturer at the time of the vehicle's production. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and current mileage was 58,000.
