While driving on a busy road with my wife, my vehicle shuddered while accelerating, and began jerking and slowing down before losing all acceleration. Multiple warning lights went off, and the tranmission automatically shifted to neutral. The transmission is a 9 speed, push button shift. We we were almost rear ended by the vehicle behind us while attempting to coast to the shoulder. While attempting to figure out what was going on, I was unable to shift the vehicle into any gear. It would not shift into park, reverse, or drive. I contacted the Honda dealership and reported the issue and had to have the vehicle towed. While waiting for 2 hours on the sode of the road for towing, I was unable to get the transmission to shift into any gear. It was only after the tow truck driver arrived, and I shut the vehicle off that the car finally shifted into a gear. The vehicle is currently at the Honda dealership and being diagnosed. There were 4 error messages that I received when all of this occurred. I have photos, and a video of it as well. This is not my first issue with the transmission. It has been to the shop twice before for shuddering when shifting at low speeds, and not shifting properly. The vehicle currenly has around 18,500 miles on it. Fortunately this tranmission issue happened on a side access road, and not on the turnpike, or the end result may have been an accident involved. The dealership cannot explain why the transmission shifted to nuetral and completely lovked out the ability to shift or move it under its own power. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle, and feel that it is a hazard to other drivers. I have video of the transmission not shifting but was unable to load that as an attachment.

We bought a new 2016 Honda Pilot awd ex-l in October 2016 and are experiencing some pretty serious transmission issues. The first incident happened about a month ago before the vehicle even had 900 miles on it and it has re-occurred numerous times since then and we only have 2,000 miles on it. It appears that if you decelerate rather quickly from let¿s say 50 mph+ to zero, that when you re-start from zero, the transmission is all out of sorts. When you hit the gas at zero (after the fast deceleration) the vehicle will be very hesitant/slow to start (almost as if you¿re starting in a higher gear than 1st) and then when you get to about 25-30 mph, the vehicle will slam into that gear and shake the entire vehicle. That ¿slamming into gear¿ issue will continue every time you drop down or accelerate to that 25-30 mph range during that driving session. The only way to get the issue to stop during that driving session, is to stop the vehicle and re-start the engine. It¿s almost like it resets the transmission or the computer that runs the transmission¿ there are no check engine lights/warnings that come on and it¿s a hard issue to duplicate, but the only thing that seems to make it occur sometimes is fast deceleration from a high speed down to zero (I. E. Coming off an off-ramp and hitting a stop light, or driving on a 50mph type road and then hitting a stop light). There's obviously a major transmission flaw and the continued "slamming into gear" when this issue occurs, can only be doing more damage to the transmission and feels like the engine is on the verge of locking up.

When accelerating at approximately 35-40 mph the cars shakes and vibrates. If you let off the accelerator the shake will go away.

Vehicle developed a vibration around 45000 miles in rear and thought tires needed rebalancing. That didn't help and after vibrating on a 1600 mile trip had dealer replace tires with original brand and size after discussing problem with them. $1000 later I took the car back to dealer and complained about vibration. They rebalanced tires on hi tech balancer. 275 miles on new tires and still vibration is there. Went back today because of vibration and they did software update and replaced right rear tire. Service manager and then general both rode with me I vehicle and they agreed the vibration is still apparent. They think it's inherent with the Honda Pilot. It obviously is not something that is normal. Who what's to drive a car vibrating all the time.

Car shudders occasionally around speeds 30 while accelerating, the shudder lasts few seconds and stops. This could happen only once or several times if you continue to drive around speeds 30 mph. From Honda forums it looks like a common problem with same year Honda Pilots and accura rdx. Driving with such an condition shakes the driver for an unknown vehicular behaviour that may cause an accident/ fatality. It is suggested Honda corp may be asked to put a recall for all vehicles in this manuafcture year.
2011 Honda Pilot. Around 66,000 miles. Transmission flushed and filled at around 60,000 miles. Issue began sometime before the flush. Acceleration from a stop is noticeably rough and vibrates within the vehicle. The problem is persistent up to around 45mph. Continues to get worse.

Heard a weird noise while driving home from work. When I pulled over to see what it was, tranny fluid was bubbling out of the radiator overflow. Had the transmission and radiator replaced by aul, the extended warranty CO. They sent a used tranny and within a week it was shaking the whole car on the downshift at 35-40 and 60mph. Another used tranny was sent. On day one, began noticing the whole car shakes at 40-45 and 60-65mph on the upshift. I am waiting for my mechanic to be available to diagnose and request another tranny. This will be number three in three months.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Hyundai Pilot. The contact stated while driving approximately 30-45 mph, the front end of the vehicle shuddered. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,000. Ss.
The vehicle starts to shudder and vibrate at various speeds. You must slow down or speed up to get it to stop vibrating. We bought this Honda Pilot because we drive on a lot of slick roads. I feel this makes it very unsafe for my family. Along with being unsafe, it is very annoying and with it being a new vehicle, we should not have to accept this. The dealership says it is a normal operation of vcm. American Honda tells me the same thing. I don't agree.
While attempting to accelerate the vehicle begins to vibrate and shudder and acts like it doesn't want to shift gears. I have read numerous complaint's in regards to this being a malfunction with Honda transmissions. I guess the main safety issue would be what we had today. Driving down the interstate and not being able to accelerate and almost being rear ended by a semi! something should be done to force recalls by Honda on their transmissions!.

I purchased a 2013 Honda Pilot touring model on may 3, 2013. Over time, and now whenever I drive between 35-45 mph the car shudders and vibrates. It occurs in vcm mode and is now present whether in vcm mode or accelerating. There is no vibration thru the steering wheel. I feel it thru the car seat, back, and center storage lid. Passengers have remarked "what's wrong with your car?" at 30 mph the car drives very smooth. By 35 mph it's like driving a different car. The vibration is getting more pronounced as miles accrue.
Ever since I pulled off the new car lot,,,,, vehicle has vibration at 1500 to 2000 rpm. It is slight but vibrates throughout vehicle. Annoying is the perfect description. Goes away with slight acceleration. Seems to be related to eco being in operation. I see same complaint in other posts. I believe it is a rookie design flaw in power train. A $40,000 vehicle should be without this defect. I also own a 2010 Pilot that operates without any vibration at any speed or load upon engine/drivetrain. This is my second "Honda" company vehicle. I wish I had the 1st one back. You can imagine my frustration with my 2013 Honda Pilot. Honda. . . . . Can you own up to this flaw and fix?.
Vehicle constantly vibrates/shudders as engine run in eco mode and as vcm kicks in/out or is in use. I see hundreds of same complaint on Honda message boards and all have gotten the same response from Honda. They indicate it is normal operation and nothing they can do. Anyone that's driven a vehicle for more than a few hours can tell you it's not normal for a vehicle to vibrate like that. In my driving, I find it to be not only annoying, but very distracting as I'm constantly trying to change speeds/rpm, etc. To make the vibrations go away. This constant distraction is a safety concern. I implore you to get Honda to own the situation and find a fix.
Any time eco mode vcm (vehicle cylinder management) engages engine shudders and entire vehicle vibrates until eco mode disengages upon increased accelleration.
When the eco turns on start to vibrate the whole car. The car vibrates and rattle noise comes in the engine compartment. Very disturbing ofr a new car but they say is how the eco works, concerned can cause engine damage due to vibration.
My 2013 Honda Pilot shakes and rumbles when I hit 20 mph! when the eco light flips on, my cars starts shaking. It's so annoying. I have been saving and saving my money for my dream car, and now I hate my Honda. I have driven cr-v, and accord, and loved them. This car is a horrible ride! I just want to drive in peace.
We have had this problem since day one (January 18, 2013) with our 2013 Honda Pilot ex 4wd. The problem is a noticeable vibration when the engine drops down from high eco mode (4 cylinders) to low eco mode (3 cylinders - if I understand the eco cylinder reduction system correctly). It is smooth in high eco mode but as soon as it drops down, the vehicle vibrates/rumbles significantly. It is my wife's primary vehicle and I do not like to drive it for that reason. I do not have an independent audible vibration although when in low eco mode it makes a sound as well as a vibration with the vibration being the most pronounced. It is odd that one part of the eco mode is smooth and the other part is rough. I can predict when the roughness will occur when traveling on a relatively flat road with gradual inclines and declines. When the road declines, the low eco mode engages and the vibration initiates and continues until the road begins to incline at which time the eco mode transfers from its low mode to its high mode and the vibration stops immediately. The vibration is significant enough and is comparable to riding on smooth asphalt and then the surface changing abruptly to a rough oil and chip road surface. We had a 2009 Honda Pilot lx 4wd with the same eco system and there was no vibration in low eco mode. Has anyone had a successful fix/repair of this issue? it is very annoying to me and this cannot be normal by any stretch of the imagination. If nothing can fix this problem, is there a method to shut off the low eco system from activating but still have the high eco system operable. I would rather have a smooth ride and sacrifice some gas mileage than be tormented by this vibration. The vibration is so obvious that it cannot be ignored especially if you are driving it. It vibrates in the steering wheel as well as the vehicle in general. Thank you.
I purchased this vehicle (2013 Honda Pilot ex-l) on 11/26/12 and almost immediately began to feel an annoying vibration when the vehicle was in eco mode. This vibration can be felt in the steering wheel, console. Seats and throughout the cabin. It is most noticeable on level stretches of roadway when appling light pressure on the fuel pedal. The vibration or "flutter" deminishes when more pressure is applied to the fuel pedal. When taken in to the dealership I was told this was a normal charactoristic of the vehicle. After contacting Honda customer care I was told it would be checked into and have heard nothing further. . . . .
2013 Honda Pilot. Consumers write in regards to vehicle shudders, pulsates and vibrates intermittently during normal driving conditions. The consumer stated the shudder, pulsating and vibration occurred intermittently during any and all driving conditions. The consumer was informed by Honda representatives ad technicians that vibration was caused by the variable cylinder control system and it usually started after 1000 miles. The consumer was informed Honda was working on a fix, but may or may not have a solution in the future. Also, there was a very distinct and constant pull to the left in the steering system. The fuel system alert light illuminated after the tank was filled with gas. The consumer was instructed by the dealer, to remove and replace the gas gap. The alert light went out. The consumer stated the vehicle shifted harshly and it felt as though he transmission was failing. The consumer stated the problem became worse as time went on.
Vehicle shudders/vibrates when vcm (eco) engages/disengages. Shuddering/vibrating is very pronounced. Transmission 'clunks' during engage/disengage of vcm.
When accelerating the vehicle begins to shudder, jerk and lose power while accelerating from 0-40mph. Sterring wheel begins to shake, acceleration seems to stall. At higher speeds on freeway there is some shuddering but not as noticable. Braking or reducing speed does not immediately stop the shuddering. Its almost predictable at low speeds. Loss of power during acceleration feels as if the vehicle could stall especially when turning left with on coming traffic approaching.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that, while driving, the vehicle made a loud noise, as if there was a flat tire. The front and rear drive and passenger tires were changed; however the noise remained. The contact stated that when attempted to brake the vehicle would shake. The vehicle was taken to repair shop and inspected, and failure was found related to transmission, and the 4x4 feature. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate current and failure mileage was 54,000. Yn.
Intermittent vibration in the front passenger side when accelerating, at about 30-35 mph. Sometimes just slightly noticeable and sometimes significant enough so that the entire vehicle vibrates for a few seconds. We just purchased it used yesterday and did not notice the vibrations while test driving it.
Vehicle shudders when accelerating and shifting gears around 40 mph.
Vehicle shudders at 45 mph, making a "whoosh' sound and slowing abruptly, if briefly.
I began to experience a slight shudder when vehicle speed reached 35 mph. Not sure cause at the time so had tires and wheels checked and had mechanic try and replicate. No indication of a problem was noted and frequency at first was occasional but began to increase in frequency and duration. Problem has become worse but always between 35-45 mph and disappears as speed increases. I have contacted dealer and was informed that there had not been any unusual increase in problems like this and would have to check it out. Also informed no existing recalls or notices were on file. Contacted my transmission service rep. And was informed the transmission was very likely failing and would probably need to be replaced. His estimate to replace $4000-$4500 ! 55,000 miles on vehicle??????.
Vehicle shudder/shake starting at 50 mph. Advised needed new transmission. Called Honda to check if recall or would be reimbursed. Told no and said wanted problem on record. Replaced transmission at own expense $3045. Drive light periodically flashes. Have not repaired as >$300.

The transmission initially started to shudder when the vehicle operated within the 40-60 mph zone. Now the shudder seems to occur in the range of 30 to 60 mph. The transmission is also erratically shifting up and down within the drive range causing for uneven performance. I now operate the vehicle while driving on city streets in the "d3" gear. Although it wastes gas, the car operates smoother and does not have the shuddering that was being experience while in the "d" gear. Given an emergency situation, I bought the car from a family member. Otherwise, I would have had time to research the car and would have found that the transmission is a very serious failure on this vehicle. It is in fact a latent defect that has occurred with continued regularity. Given the history of this issue, and the way Honda has responded, I will not be looking at Honda when I buy a new car.
2003 Honda Pilot started to sometimes drop out of gear. Feels like car is in neutral. I step on gas, can hear engine rev, but feels like transmission has disengaged. I have to coast over to side of road, place car in park and then in drive again to correct problem. When tranny is not acting up, I also have noticed the car shakes around 50-60mph. D was flashing and engine light on first time tranny disengaged, so I took car to me mechanic, who told me diagnostics were telling him car needed new sensors, which he replaced. Went upstate, thinking prob solved, well, I almost caused a pile up on gwb in new york with car dropping out of drive again at about 45mph, nowhere there to pull over, so I had to stop car in middle of road, drop it into park, then move it into drive. This time no flashing d or check engine light came on. I brought it to Honda. They told me they would check the tranny. The only thing they found wrong was tranny fluid was slightly overfilled, so they drained some fluid. They did tell me if problem persisted I would need a new tranny and also needed new engine mounts on my 8 year old car with 103,000miles. Next day problem was still there! meanwhile I had dealer check on the price of new tranny. . 4,700. 00! was very upset to find all of the other complaints on this and many websites. I called Honda dealer, told them I felt Honda should issue a recall on this ongoing problem with the 2003 Pilots, and other models. They asked me what I would be willing to pay for the repairs. I told the man, if they are negotiating a price on a new tranny, then Honda knows there is a problem with the transmissions in these cars. I explained to him I've already spent 700. 00 on sensors at my mechanic, and another 250. 00 with his service station on this tranny, and would not pay any more than 500. 00. Next day got call telling me they wouldn't give me anything toward new tranny. Very unhappy Honda not making good on an obvious defect in these trannys! no more Hondas for me.
2004 Honda Pilot when accelerating between 35-45 miles per hour the vehicle starts to shudder. As time has passed this is starting to happen more frequently a nd at lower speeds. I have read other complaints about this and the recall that was issued for the same problem with Acura. I know the was a recall for the 2004 Pilot but was informed by the dealer that mine was not involved.
