April of 2008 our used 2002 Hyundai Accents transmission failed. The car was out of warranty. We went to a local dealer to get a replacement and a "refurbished" one was put in. The replacement has now failed 4 months after the 1 -year warranty deadline. How is it possible that this company can make such bad transmissions ? no recalls to my knowledge have been awarded. As a safety issue the transmission would stall and drop into 80 km safe mode this is a canadian bought vehicle.

My car was driven under 70,000 miles when my transmission started going out. I was in the car with my one year old niece at the time leaving to go home. My car started violently thrusting forward with all of us in the car and was jerking violently. I thought we were going to get in an accident with the child in the car in March 2006. As we pulled on the freeway the car did the same thing for the first 10 miles and we were sure we were going to die. But I pulled off the road and let it cool down. When we arrived at my parents we serviced the vehicle which I think had to be towed and I was given a refurbished transmission in March 2006. During the fall of 2007 the same problem occurred and the gears were acting up as they were before and the car was violently thrusting forward and jerking. I almost got into an accident while going to work with my students. I reported it to Hyundai motor of America and took it in for repairs in September 2007. They installed a refurbished transmission and took care of another powertrain issue and installed a new alternator. However in the fall of 2008 the battery and alternator went out and I had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed although the alternator was still under warranty. After I took my Hyundai to the dealer to get an oil change in the fall of 2010 I noticed that it was acting strange. Needless to say my transmission was acting up again and I almost got into an accident with 3 other cars due to it's violent thrusting and stalling in November 2010, December 2010, January 2011 and February 2011. In April 2011 it was diagnosed that yet again I had transmission failure. I contacted Hyundai since my transmission fails every 10,000 to 70,000 miles and the transmission goes out every 1-4years with my car so it is consistent.

Transmission started failing within the first 30 days of purchase, ever time it went over 10 mph it lugged back and then went forward. Bought the car used with 42k miles and the service department at the dealership said that they will have to keel the car to replace transmission or change a part.
Contact states his car was lunging forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who said they couldn't do anything with the vehicle until the transmission failed. The dealer refused to replace transmission due to warranty coverage. They had the car with 29,000 miles the point where they were saying the oil should have been changed, and did not change the oil, even though contact had records indicating it has been changed every 3,000 miles. Contact felt dealer was negligent by not acknowledging there was a problem at the beginning. The consumer explained that the dealer didn't recommend or suggest transmission fluid changes even when it was time for one. The dealer refused to provided any assistance until the manufacturer was supplied with transmission service records of fluid changes.

Manual transmission fails to shift into 2nd gear, 4th gear, or reverse. (into any of the down shifting positions) there seems to be no pattern to predict when this problem will appear. I've experienced problems on surface streets, freeways, and when just starting the car or mid trip.

: the consumer stated on November 21, 2003 at 46,856 miles the original transmission was replaced; now the second transmission is failing. The failure caused the vehicle to shift hard from low gear to the high gear. While driving at speeds of 10 to 20 mph, it takes longer to shift from first to second gear. There is a vibration when shifting occurs. The manufacturer and dealership have been contacted and determined the transmission needs to be replaced again.
My transmission has failed 7 times and replaced 4. It is still presently slipping. The factory rep. Was of no help however, the service department at college park have been extremely polite and understanding. Sam carlin, jim thomas, and jeff peleruzzi. Dispite all that has been done my car does not and has not run right. Might I say also that I got my oil change and because it was done improperly my engine blow in the middle of route 50. Hyundai needs to pay for my lose and suffering.
