: the contact stated two years ago the vehicle would not come out of second gear. An independent mechanic repaired the vehicle. The contact does not know what repairs were performed. About one month ago, the transmission started slipping into second gear. The only way to get the vehicle out of second gear is to turn the vehicle off, wait a few minutes, and restart the vehicle. The same independent mechanic determined the vehicle had a defect and referred the contact to the NHTSA. There is an NHTSA recall, # 99v178000, regarding the automatic transmission. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Transmission slips in low gears with low acceleration. At highway speeds does not continue into high gear and engine runs at high rpm. No parts repaired dealer says nothing is wrong.
I bought my car in September of 1999 from a car dealership. Over a year ago my transmission starting slipping I brought it back to the dealership under warrenty they said it was a sensor and replaced it. Just 2 days ago my check engine light came on and I now longer had 4th gear and 3rd would slip in and out. I learned there was a recall and that the dealership was supposed to replace this sensor before I bought the car and again when I brought it in last year. This is a big hassle not to mention my check airbag light is also on and my alternater went on the fritz a few months ago. This car is too new for these problems and I dont think I will ever buy another Hyundai again.
When accelerating from a stop the transmission would not engage. Intermittently the transmission slips between gears braking the vehicle creating wheel spin. The vehicle experienced the problem the first time at 350 miles. The dealer as been notified. Nlm.
