Hyundai Elantra owners have reported 7 problems related to battery (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Elantra based on all problems reported for the Elantra.
The brake lights stayed on all night after car was put in park and engine was turned off, causing battery to lose all power. This could be caused by a faulty brake/stop light switch. A recall was issued for brake/stop light switch on different years and models of Hyundai vehicles. My 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS was not included in the recall but probably should have been.

Panic alarm engages on its own (while parked) in driveway or work parking lot. Checked all doors, hood, trunk to ensure they were closed. Has not happened while car is in motion. When using key fob(manuf supplied) problem still persist. Press lock dr button(30-40 min later) alarm sounds, press unlock button(40-60 min later) alarm sounds or does not come on again. Press lock button to secure car, doors click twice but alarm engagement sound or light verification does not happen. This happens at random so I am sure if taken to dealer it will not happen or they will not confirm it is happening. I can not see any loose wires, blocked contacts or anything that might cause problem. Don't think it is the battery. Its has to be a short or a computer problem.

I bought it from Hyundai dealer on Dec 16, 2009 which only had 31000 miles then. It stalled three times within one week just one week after I brought. One stalling happened when backing up and one time happened when coming to a stop and one time when leaving a stop. I brought it to dealer on December 31,2009. Their report indicated that they found a code for random miss fire and they replace spark plug wires. Things temporarily went well after that. Then the car totally died on one morning, around Feb 10,2010. Then the car was towed to dealer service and dealer changed the battery. But the stalling problem came back this week and it had happened twice. One happened when turning around at parking lot and another was happened when turning around on local road. I am going to give dealer for another fix tomorrow.

My cars battery gets drained completely needing to jump start twice in last 3 months. Car dealer couldn't identify the draw but says that its definitely not the battery and added that it could be manufacturing defect.
