36 Body problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/18/2023

Failure to provide campaign service took car in for rust corrosion campaign and inspection on may 18th. I was told there was corrosion and they would send info to Hyundai for approval. Car was not inspected, and was denied loaner vehicle after being told on phone one would be provided. Forcing me to drive an uninspected corroded vehicle for well over a month. Multiple calls to the dealer have not been returned.

37 Body problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

Rear sub-frame assembly nearly rusted through. Steering and handling noticebly effected with rear of vehicle feeling soft and sluggish in turns. Vehicle is available for inspection and was brought to my attention when the mechanic was beginning rear brake maintenance. Mechanic is a licensed mechanic and the repair shop is a licensed service facility. Mechanic called me and asked me to return to the shop to show me the extent of the rust damage, to which I did return to the shop to examine his findings. I did take photos. *there were no warning lamps or messages. The symptoms were as described above.

38 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/06/2023

Door latch on back two doors failed and will not open at all. First door failed at 60,000 miles while getting additional maintenance at Hyundai dealership and door was discovered broken upon pickup. Dealership diagnosed problem but refused to fix it. The second door latch failure occurred at 67,000 miles. It happened while out on family trip. Having both rear doors unable to open was a major safety hazard for our children seated in back who would be unable to be easily retrieved if accident were to occur. No warning lights or any other signs of warning occurred. Doors just would not open upon arrival at destination. Hyundai dealership confirmed latch failure is cause. After researching online we discovered this is a common problem with this make and model car. Hyundai stated it will take several weeks and cost $500 per door when quoted. To fix will be a several week wait and when quoted. We are worried about using the car with kids in the backseat and also worried the other two door latches will fail closed. Since this is a known problem for this model and a major safety concern it should be a recall.

39 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/04/2023

For a little over a year now, my back doors do not open on my Hyundai Elantra. The child lock is not on. Also in the past year, my passenger and driver door do not open. I have to go back and forth on the handle 20-30 times before my door opens. I have changed the battery in the key fob and I have tried unlocking my doors with the actual key with no success. Sometimes if they do not open I have to go through my sunroof. This is such a safety issue it’s insane. I’ve called Hyundai dealerships but they said they will need to keep it for 2 weeks. I do not have any other vehicle to just leave it there for that long. Please help.

40 Body problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

This isn’t a safety concern but it is a concern per the vehicle. My hood on my Hyundai Elantra (silver) has bad paint and is starting to chip. My car isn’t the only one I see Hyundais with paint chipping everywhere on them.

41 Body problem of the 2023 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/06/2023

In the 4 corners of the moonroof where the metal roof meets the moonroof, there is a visible dent/metal tension in each corner. After receiving professional opinions for local body shops, they've all come to the same conclusion: the moonroof was improperly or poorly installed at the factory, which is leading to the moonroof dragging down on the metal corners of the roof leading to visible tension/dents in these spots. Furthermore, the issue is continuing to worsen as time goes on.

42 Body problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

43 Body problem of the 2021 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/09/2023

Significant water leak which I believe is due to a failure in the door seals. My personal safety is at risk due to a mold issue. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the Hyundai dealership’s service department (multiple visits). This problem is well documented by many individuals in the Hyundai forums site. The results were the dealership pushes the vehicle back at the consumer without it being corrected. Problem has been occurring since purchased. I recognized the issue in early 2023.

44 Body problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/17/2023

On February 17, 2023, my vehicle was broken into and damaged because thieves tried to highjack the car using a now common method of the end of a usb cable in the ignition. The passenger rear window, the steering column, and the key ignition were all damaged, and I had my vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership. Nearly all 2011-2021 kia and Hyundai vehicles are made easy to operate without a key, to steal, and to vandalize. This security vulnerability has resulted in kia and Hyundai owners paying for repairs (even with insurance, owners need to pay the deductible) and higher insurance premiums. Hyundai and kia did not disclose this defect, which is a material fact, and a fact that a reasonable person would rely on when purchasing a vehicle, consequently making these vehicles easy to steal, unsafe, and worth less than they should be. The service writer at the dealership informed me that it could take 30-45 days to get the parts since this type of vandalism has increased significantly over the last six months. It has become well-known that these thefts are due to security flaws (failure to implement standard security measures and install anti-theft devices) in kia and Hyundai vehicles, leaving them notably susceptible to theft. Kia and Hyundai owners, including myself, are left with limited time use of rental cars during repairs, oftentimes because of the delay in the delivery of parts. This situation also leaves kia and Hyundai owners with higher insurance rates (or being simply denied of obtaining insurance) because of these vehicles.

45 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/10/2023

So my car has big patches of bare metal were the paint has peeled completely up bubbled up. Also my engine just started a knocking noise with no warning symbols or anything now I'm going to have to replace the motor. My car doesn't specifically have any recalls but I beg to differ that damn near every one of these cars that they have made has the same problems regardless of the VIN.

46 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/19/2023

In my 2017 white Elantra, the paint in the hood and top started peeling off. I have seen multiple Elantras especially white color having this issue. It seems like a manufacturing defect and Hyundai should address this issue through a recall.

47 Body problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/12/2023

Cars with pearl white paint have large pieces of paint flaking off of both the hood and trunk, this is a common issue found with others.

48 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/03/2023

For over a year, the front driver's side door handle has not worked properly. I would have to yank the door repeatedly, even while unlocked, to open it. Eventually this led to the plastic fracturing, and then breaking off completely when an auto tech tried to open it. Now, despite absolutely nothing having damaged them in the meantime, the front passenger side door handle has to be pulled on as many as 20+ times to open from the outside, and the back driver's side is not opening from the outside at all. The only functioning door is the passenger's side rear door. I have read multiple reports of other drivers whose doors are not opening from the outside or the inside. This could not only make it so I am entirely unable to drive the car due to a complete inability to get inside (unless maybe I'm able to crawl through the trunk?), but also a serious safety hazard endangering anyone who might be stuck inside the car. Even if I replace the actuators I can't know that it won't just happen again. Along with that, the car has had a consistent problem with overheating despite several attempts by auto techs to fix the problem. Even at the "qualified" Hyundai dealership, the techs could never figure out the problem. I paid to have an independent mechanic replace the thermostat, in the hopes that it would repair the problem. It seemed to work until 2 weeks ago when I stopped the car, and after roughly 2 minutes idling it was overheating and I had to turn around. The approximate date I'm adding is just the date the auto tech ripped off the door handle, because these have been persistent and ongoing issues.

49 Body problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

The entire undercarriage of the vehicle is rusted, allowed for 3 sections is not sufficient as it does not accurately account for the damage. The fuel suspension is also affected from the known corrosion and rust issue. I have had to make many costly repairs in the last 4 years and I did not know about this issue with the vehicle I have now had for 17years. Had I , I would have done my own repairs to ensure the unit was safe and operational and not only relied on Hyundai's very delayed and subpar solution - considering my unit is a 2008 and the campaign did not come out until may 2014, of which I know for a fact my car was never listed.

50 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/18/2022

Door exterior handle will not open after the car is locked and then unlocked. It takes multiple pulls after unlocking door and door will not open until 4-5 pulls are taken to get door open.

51 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? "paint flaking/chipping" how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? "no safety concern or issue" has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? "not currently" has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? "insurance representatives" were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? "no. Failure was noticed after traveling through foggy weather after reaching destination".

52 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/09/2022

The problem has been persistent since 70,000 miles. The drivers side passenger door is unable to be opened from the inside and outside, most of the time. The car is available for inspection. Malfunctioning doors is absolutely a safety issue. If the car is involved in an accident the fastest way to get people out is by unlocking the doors and opening them. That cannot be done here thus it requires first responders to used spreaders and cutters to open a door that should be functional. The car is going to the dealership in a few days.

53 Body problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

My car's engine had damaged engine seals and was leaking oil. Also, when I accelerate it seems to be very forceful and the gears don't change well, they seem to be stuck. I had to take the front axle in for repair since something seemed to break. Also in the second or third year I had to take it under warranty since I had problems with the brakes and the sensor was damaged. The button to raise and lower the window does not work.

54 Body problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/26/2022

I am reporting a significant paint delamination issue on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra in sparkling white. The paint has been peeling, bubbling, and chipping particularly on the roof, trunk, and hood, exposing the primer and bare metal underneath. This is not due to wear, environmental exposure, or physical damage. It appears to be a factory defect related to improper paint or primer application. This issue is widespread among Hyundai owners of the same year and color, and several technical service bulletins have already been issued for similar paint problems (such as TSB 19-bd-005h). However, Hyundai has refused to repair my vehicle, citing the expired warranty, despite clear evidence of a manufacturing defect. The exposed metal poses a rust and corrosion risk, which could compromise vehicle safety and structural integrity over time. I believe this should be investigated as a potential quality and safety concern and request the NHTSA to look into this recurring defect.

55 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Doors will not open.

56 Body problem of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/23/2022

I hit a small center divider in a parking structure going about 1 mph which hit under the car. The three front airbags deployed. There is no body damage to the front of the car so I don’t think that the airbags should have deployed. My local dealership can’t fix it and I have reached out to Hyundai USA and they are not responding.

57 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

I'm having constant issues with my front doors. Last year there was a door latch recall issued for the front drivers side door. I took my car to the dealership to get it handled however my ft ds door was making a clicking sound. It was fixed but since gone back to the dealership twice and now possibly a third time due to ft pgr door making the same noise. . I keep getting locked out of my car or the doors wont close right. All doors make a clicking sound when opened. Which is one of the reasons I have taken car twice. The main concern is me not being able to get in the car without having to click on the key fob and doorlatch getting stuck.

58 Body problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

Paint is peeling off the hood in 2 very large, growing spots. Nothing has struck the hood, the paint is lifting and flaking off all on its own. The color is pearl white.

59 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/30/2022

Right rear passenger door will not open. The door will not open from the inside or the outside. The latch is in the "unlocked position" and the child safety lock is off. The child safety lock is proven to be off, as the left rear door will open as it should. Unlocking, locking, child safety lock on or off, starting the car, turn the engine off-nothing allows you to open the door. This is a safety concern. Please assist in having Hyundai make this a recall. Thank you. Mileage 82k.

After an inspection by my mechanic he insisted the car is no longer safe to drive and suggested I do not put any money into the other problems we were having with it ( the reason it was at the shop).
