The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. The contact noticed that the air bag warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument control panel. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that because the cup holder was located in the center console, a leak from a beverage could enter into the air bag module and cause the module and harness to fail. In the event of a crash, the air bag may not deploy properly. She had the air bag module replaced. Updated 2/2/09

The dealer informed the consumer it could have been from moving the seats. Several months later the consumer received a recall letter regarding the potential problem. The consumer made an appointment to rectify the situation as stated in the letter, only to be told they were only required to put a protective cover over the air bag module so that liquid could not get into the module. The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. The contact noticed that the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel. Two years later, he received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 08v533000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) and immediately took the vehicle to the dealer. The technician stated that because they previously installed a new side impact air bag wiring harness, connector clips, revised the side impact air bag wiring harness attachments under the driver's and front passenger seats, and because the air bag indicator was still illuminated, the contact would have to pay a diagnostic fee to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer did not assist. The failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 77,000. Updated 02-23-09 upadted 02/24/09.

I was involved in a head on collision in my 2001 Hyundai Elantra, with a Jeep wrangler, the front end of my car was badly damaged (have pictures), the damage was bad enough to for the insurance company to total my car. Yet! neither one of my front air bags deployed in the crash. Everyone who has seen my crashed Elantra could not believe the air bags never deployed! luckily, I was not seriously injured, so that does say something for the Elantra, but I still feel the air bags should have deployed. I'm just trying to prevent someone from getting really hurt in a crash, because of this possible defect. Will be glad to provide more details if necessary!.
Headlights burning out frequently was the first sign of problems, replaced them as the dealer said this was inherent to the 2001 Elantra. In August 2006 check engine light came on. Also, the air bag sensor light was on, headlight out again, took car to dealer, they called back and said that the alternator had been over charging and not only was the over charging burning out the headlights it also had taken out the cruise control module, and air bag module. Car had only 42000 miles on it, and was 2 weeks from being out of the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. Well here it is 6 months later and 47000 miles and check engine light is back on, I have since purchased a diagnostic tool to read the codes. The car was running rough at idle. The codes came up as mis fire on cylinder 3, tps sensor failure and map barometer failure. I replaced the plugs and wires, engine still ran rough. Took car back to dealer they replaced the tps, still running rough, they suggested that because of the faulty tps that the excessive dumping of fuel into the jets could have caused one of them to be clogged. I had them clean the jets as well as replace the plugs and wires again (they had also found that #3 wire had been arcing. ) this took care of the idle problem. I took the car home and the next day driving the car would surge between 3rd and 4th gear, engine light back on. Still have the map error. Dealer ended up replacing the map sensor. It has been about a month since this last occourence and all I can do is cross my fingers until I trade it in. Abl. Pco.

- the contact stated that she received her recall letter in 2005 for campaign # 03v322000, and she had the recall repaired at the dealership on 03/22/06. 1 week after the repair she had to contact the dealership and inform them that the air bag sensor light was still not working properly. The contact has call the manufacturer and was told after the recall that they will replace her vehicle or refund her purchase price. As of 1/12/07 the issues has not been address and the manufacturer has not responding to her complaint. The contact gave manufacture complaint # 994795. The contact stated that her airbag doesn't recognize anyone sitting on the passenger side of the vehicle.
I received a notice on 2005 Hyundai Elantra having the rt front passenger air bag recalled. I contacted the dealer we bought from and took it in. They made an adjustment on the sensor on Feb 28, 2006. This did not solve the problem so I took the car back and they sent the seat to California to have the sensor issue taken care of. We still have a problem and Hyundai is aware of it and is dragging their feet deciding what they are going to do about the problem. I want it solved. I told them we are going out of town on April 1, 2006 and if the problem is not solved they need to provide us a loaner. It is now March 27, 2006 and I still don't have an answer as to what they are going to do.
I have a 2004 Hyundai Elantra. It had a recall on the airbag sensor. I have taken it back two times to be fixed. This will be the third. It comes on and off regardless if anyone is in the seat or not. Each time I take it back they say it is fixed. I am afraid if I am in a wreck it will not work if someone is sitting there.
2004 Hyundai Elantra passenger air bag off light remains on. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer regarding recall campaign #073 concerning the occupant classification system of the right front passenger seat for air bag deployment. The passenger air bag off light remained on no matter who sat in the seat. The technician told the consumer that the air bag off light may be illuminated because the passenger may not be seat squarely in the seat with feet on the floor.
10/28/05 car did not stop immediately while parking, went through fence and hit deck. Brakes did not hold in sand. Car towed to dealership who informed, nothing wrong with brakes. Advised by dealership that the recall on brakes for Hyundai Elantra 2001 was remedied by them. Brakes still do not hold well, advised by another mechanic that brake shoes are fine. Still do not have a good comfort level with brakes. Air bag light on, recall on file for model and year, dealer advised not for my car. Will fix at cost of approximately $700. 00.
: the contact stated the frontal airbag sensor works improperly. The airbag off light illuminated while an adult of 120 lbs. Was setting in the seat. The sensor illuminated for up to six minutes then turn off. The problem occurred at a variety of speeds. Every time the vehicle was inspected by the dealership the sensor was reset. The problem continued to occur. There was a recall, NHTSA # 05v395000, regarding the airbags. The recall was because the sensors identified a child as an adult were as in this case the problem is reversed.
The contact stated when car had 20,000 miles on it started having electrical problems. The srs light came on, and it was making a funny sound at 31,000 miles. She said different lights on the dashboard would come on, but she was not sure which ones. The car ran out of oil, and the consumer stated there was no light to come on to indicate the car was low on oil. The car had 118,000 miles on it at that time. The contact has to replace the engine.

On Wednesday, July 15, 2005 a young man was racing on u. S. Highway 75 in sherman. He rear-ended another southbound car and knocked across a grassy median, into my car head on. My airbag on the driver side deployed immediately, however, the passenger bag did not deploy right away resulting in serious injury to one of my passengers, toni folsom. On initial impact, toni flew forward and her head impacted the windshield, the seat belt then yanked her back and she flew forward again and only then did the airbag deploy. Toni had a broken nose, concussion, 30 stitches in her face, and a perforated colon from the seat belt. The car was totaled. My concern is the fact the airbag deployed late. I know of another man whose sensor in his 2004 Hyundai Elantra is not working for his passenger bag and the dealership keeps telling him there is nothing wrong with it. Please check into this matter. Thank you, cherie odom .
Contact states air bag light stayed illuminated in the vehicle, the service dealer stated this was due to things being underneath the seat. Consumer stated there was nothing underneath the seats. Abl. Pco.
The contact owns a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The contact noticed that the air bag indicator light kept illuminating. The dealer repaired the failure and diagnosed it as the air bag sensor. Approximately 60,000 miles late, the failure recurred. Also, currentl ythe electrical system failed. The air bag light came on three times. Took vehicle to dealer twice, but problem recurred. Dealer said a code came up on the diagnostic that said ?p1378 dsab high resistance?. Driver seat connector was disconnected. Dealer said they fixed the connector. But the next day the light was back on. The second time a code of ?p1367 psbp resistance too high?. Checked harness connector and found it to be okay. Also, air bag light appeared. Cleared computer code and retested vehicle and no codes were found at this time. Abl. Pco.
Passenger airbag indicator light not functioning properly since purchase in November 2004. Hyundai sent tech to reprogram airbag sensor in February 2005 and now works for my son who weights 135 lbs, but still does not function properly or consistently when my daughter who is 19 and weights 105 lbs sits on the passenger seat. Today April 15, 2005 when I complained again to Hyundai, I was told the Elantra conforms with us government standards. Does the us government sanction or approve the use of airbag sensors that fail to protect the lives of passengers in the Elantra 2005? or, technology that discriminates against people of certain weight? it is distracting and dangerous to drive around always looking at the passenger airbarg indicator light not knowing when it is going to be on or off, protencting my daughter or not.
The contact stated the passenger side air bag light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealership twice. The first time they told the contact that the occupant was not sitting in the seat properly. Shortly after the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they found NHTSA recall campaign 05v395000. They reprogrammed the sensor, and this did not correct the problem. Afterwards, the gird was replaced and the light still illuminated intermittently. The vehicle has not currently been corrected.
Passenger air bag sensor incorrectly detecting passemger 50 pounds or more. Passenger air bag "off" ligth stays on even is a passenger 100 pounds or more are seated properly.
The passenger side airbag off indicator light comes on sporadically in our new 2005 Hyundai Elantra when people are sitting in the seat. My wife weighs in excess on 190 pounds and the light came on at least 5 times during a trip of 124 miles in early March and has come on once or twice during trips of 26 miles to the grocery store. We tooke the car to the dealer and they did not do anything since they could not duplicate the problem.
The air bag light came on. The dealer stated that there is something is under the seat that made it come on. , however, they will inspect the vehicle to determine exactly why the light is on. Abl. Pco.
Ongoing failure since car was purchased. Passenger airbag is off almost constantly no matter who sits in my car. 150 lb girlfriend can not get the passenger airbag off light to turn off, no matter how she sits. 145 lb female friend only gets the airbag off light to turn off about 10% of the time. Hyundai dealer says it operates as designed.
Passenger's air bag light came on intermittently stayed on. Passenger's weight requirement for the seat was specified in the manual, however, the light would not go off. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer found a recall on the air bag software. Per the recall the technician reprogrammed the air bag sensor and the light went off. Consumer was concerned because he was not notified of a recall for this problem .
With a passenger in the right front seat the air bag light off is displayed quite frequently.
Since I purchase the car in aoril of 2004, the passenger air bag indicator continues to read air bag off when a passenger is seated in the front seat who weighs over 56. 4 pounds through about 160 pounds. This is recall number 03v322000, Hyundai recall no. 062. The manufacuturer will not fix the problem unless I sign a release which does not incidate anything about the air bag working with someone seated in the front passenger seat weighing more than 56. 4 pounds. They want me to waive my rights, not telling me the parameters they will reset the computer to activate the passenger air bag if necessary. I have a copy of the agreement they want to to sign. Along with a letter I sent them dated 10/18/2004. According to the dealer service manager, this is a problem on all their 2004 models. Please help me.
Passenger's air bag should be turned on when sensor reads weight over 56. 4 pounds. However, air bag is turning on after reading 160 pounds. Dealer can reprogram air bag sensor at consumer's expense.
