Unknown I had the lane assist feature on and was taking the second lane from right to turn off to exit when the alarm went off, the wheel turned itself and it started braking. There was nothing where it was trying to avoid and actually almost had me run into another by turning me left back onto the freeway while trying to stop. It’s never happened to me before and I take that way regularly.

My car was recalled by Hyundai for a critical safety issue and has been at the dealership since July of 2024 awaiting repairs due to missing parts. Despite repeated follow-ups, Hyundai has been unable to provide a timeline for the repair. Recently, they offered to buy back the car, but the offer was far below its fair market value. When I declined, they stated they would return the car to me unfixed and unsafe. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and feels coercive, as I am forced to choose between accepting an unfair buyback or taking back an unsafe vehicle. I am seeking NHTSA's assistance to ensure Hyundai repairs the vehicle promptly, investigates their handling of recalls, and protects consumers from being placed in such unfair situations.

Intermittently while driving the vehicle will suddenly engage the traction control (tc)/electronic stability control (esc). The light flashes for a short period (probably no more than a couple of seconds) and the car slightly jerks to the right. A loud noise is heard when this happens and the brake pedal shakes. Then the light will stop flashing and the car will begin operating normally again. Typically, the problem will reoccur shortly after it happens. I took the car to a dealer, and the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. The service manager stated that there were no codes and no history, and without a code the problem could not be diagnosed. This problem occurred multiple times over the last few months.

Every time I go up a hill the slippery road light comes up. It’s hard to drive straight. I have to drive under the speed limit going up hills. Sometimes it won’t even let me park. I hear rattling when I drive over a certain speed limit. When I brake I feel the brake pad pushing back. And now my wheels are making noise when I turn them.

I was never informed through mail, email, or phone call about a potential fire hazard safety recall from Hyundai. In turn, due to my unawareness of the recall, my 2013 Elantra’s abs pump had caught on fire, melted into the control module, and melted the abs electrical harness to the module, short circuiting the ecu and starter as well.
I took my car into burns Hyundai (marlton, NJ) for the abs recall on [xxx], and while leaving the lot, my car doors began locking/unlocking when I braked or accelerated. . . I called them and took it back on the 10/09 and I was told they did everything correctly and I would have to pay to have my vehicle diagnosed for their error. I then took my car to meineke (right next door to Hyundai) for other services recommended by Hyundai on 10/7 (which meineke later told me that I don't need to have done at all) and meineke told me that Hyundai did cause the software issue when doing the abs recall. I filed a complaint with Hyundai (Hyundai consumer affairs case#: [xxx]) and the solution was again for me to take my vehicle back (burns Hyundai in marlton or Hyundai in burlington) for a diagnosis, and if they determine the software issue is not related to whatever they did for the abs recall, I would have to foot the diagnosis bill. Because burns Hyundai refused to take accountability from from the onset for their error(s) with my vehicle, my car doors now unlock/lock while I'm driving my vehicle which is dangerous especially if I have children in the back seat. I submitted an online repair request to capitol Hyundai of san jose for abs fuse replacement (xxx) recall code: 251. However, their website shows no available appointment dates in 2024, 2025, or 2026. My concern was that not having any repair appointment slots available for this recall amounted to a refusal to perform the recall work. I submitted a complaint to Hyundai consumer affairs [xxx] ) regarding capitol Hyundai's refusal to service this recall, but was told the following: "state laws limit our ability to intervene with dealership transactions as each Hyundai dealership is independently owned and operated. We recommend you contact the manager of the service department or the general manager of the dealership at (408) 445-1500 to discuss your concerns with there not being any availability at their location. " in other words, Hyundai consumer affairs said that it could not require that capitol Hyundai perform the recall work. I am concerned that capitol Hyundai of san jose is refusing to repair my vehicle by blocking all appointment dates related to this recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When my car was stolen and crashed the whole front end was smashed in but the air bags did deploy. I saw there's several recalls on these cars, one was the airbags. I never got any recall for it and it shows there are no recalls. The brakes have problems, being that it takes forever to slow down. I have to leave about 3 car lengths ahead of me because I can't stop, it takes a while to slow it down. And the steering wheel feels stuck. I had a friend drive it and he said the same thing. It's difficult to handle and not lose control. I'm to the place I'm scared to get on the highway anymore because not being able to stop quickly and swerving all over cause it's hard to control the vehicle. I have had zero recalls tho even with me experiencing this. And the paint is coming off, but at least that won't kill me.

While driving highway speeds (65mph-75mph) the emergency braking system randomly activated causing my car to slow to almost a halt and swerve itself in the middle of the highway almost causing multiple accidents. It has happened 2-3 times over the past 2-3 months. Brought to a dealer and it could not be "duplicated" so I was sent on my way worried about this car.

I got into a car accident because when I hit my brakes, instead of slowing the car down or stopping it. And then all of a sudden boom, I hit the car in front of me, could it stopped the car at all and I was only going thirty miles an hour.
I was driving my 2011 Elantra, and when I needed to brake, it didn't feel the same as usual. The brake pedal felt kind of soft. After a while, when I needed to brake at an intersection, the brakes completely failed. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and there was no braking. My speed was about 30 mph, and I couldn't stop. I was really lucky that there were no other cars at the intersection, and I just passed the stop sign without stopping. I was so scared. I didn't understand what happened and immediately changed my plans to drive home. Luckily, I was only a few minutes away. I used the hand brake for the rest of the drive. After I parked the car, I saw brake fluid leaking at the bottom, and when I moved the plastic cover, I saw that the brake line was completely rusty.

Hyundai recall 251 happened in sept. 2023 and a remedy was not made available until summer 2024. This was a "park outside due to fire risk" recall and a completely unacceptable amount of time to put families in danger. Fast forward to when the remedy was available. I went to my dealer, alm Hyundai west, who completed the recall. A week later I checked the Hyundai website and the recall was not marked complete. Alm told me I needed to come back in so they could confirm it was done correctly and take pictures. I wasn't happy but I went back and they took their pictures. That was a month ago. My recall is still not marked as complete and alm is so disorganized, I am not sure if my car was actually fixed at this point.
I want to go start my car just now to go to the store and when I turned it on and started it up the abs lights emergency brake light and eps light always lit up on my dashboard so I grabbed the manual to try to figure out what it is seen what each was individual thing standard for so I googled each individual and that's when I realized there's a recall for this from my vehicle for the abs malfunction.
