Side/window Air Bag Problems of Hyundai Elantra - part 2

2004 Elantra passenger side air bag remained on. The consumer was not satisfied with the recall work that was performed on the vehicle regarding the airbag. The consumer stated when the passenger seat was occupied the passenger air bag off light stayed illuminated.

The consumer states son parked in a parking lot and when he tried to get into the car he heard a loud bang, all of a sudden the driver's side air bag deployed without warning. He was told that it was okay to drive the vehicle with the air bag deployed. A couple of days later while the vehicle was parked and running the passenger's side air bag deployed. The vehicle is at a dealership being repaired for four recalls . The recalls did not include air bags. No crashes were involved to make the air bags deploy. 2002 Hyundai Elantra,4dr. No passenger, driver of Elantra crossed intersection & did not see car coming to right of him, Plymouth Mini-van hit side of Elantra traveling between 40 & 45 mph, impacted Elantra at the passenger side rear of front door and front of rear door, direct side hit,elantra rolled onto its top, passenger side airbag did not deploy on Elantra, also no other airbag deployed on Elantra, Plymouth Mini-van steering wheel & passenger front airbag both deployed.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in al head-on collision at 35 mph when another vehicle made an illegal left turn. Upon impact, neither front or side air bags deployed. Consumer's vehicle was totaled. Both driver and passenger sustained injuries.

The contact states there is NHTSA recall 00v332000 concerning the air bags: side/window. This vehicle manifests the same problems as indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to VIN. The vehicle is being repaired at the contact's expense. Update 1/11/2006 - the air bag light illuminated on the dash indicating there was a problem with the air bag.

The passenger's side airbag sensor is faulty. The airbag off light consistently turns on even though there is an adult in the passenger's seat. I took it to the dealership and I was told they are aware of the problem ,and there is nothing they could do.

While driving approximately 35 mph consumer's vehicle ran into the back of a van. Upon impact, drivers side air bag did not deploy.

The driver side air bag deployed. The manufacture is sending forms for the consumer to submit. The consumer was vehicle was backing out of the driveway when the driver's side air bag deployed. There were no prior accidents.

The vehicle was parked in my apartment's parking lot. My wife and I entered the vehicle. I started the engine. We both buckled our seatbelts and I took off the parking brake. As I was reaching for the gearshift, the driver's side air bag deployed without warning.

There was a spontaneous deployment of the passenger side airbag in our 2001 Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle made a right turn and was in motion, proceeding normally down the road, when the airbag went off; there was no wreck, no bump in the road, no impact of any sort. No one was in the passenger seat at the time, so there were no injuries. There was significant damage to the interior of the car. Abl. Pco.

Passenger side air bag occupant classification sensor failed to function. When a passenger who weight more that the classified 50 lbs was seated in the passenger seat air bag sensor still read off. Dealership serviced the vehicle several times, but was unable to correct the failure.

After being involved in side collision and frontal crash the side and frontal air bags did not deploy. Recall number 00v32000.

While going around a bend approximately 50-60 mph vehicle hit a ditch, which caused the vehicle to spin out of control, and hit a tree one driver's side door. Upon impact, driver's side air bag failed to deploy.

Mva 7/27/04 passenger side impact to my car driver seat belt did not lock I hit the steering wheel passenger side airbag did not deploy.

On the evening of 6/27, my son was driving our 2002 Hyundai Elantra. There were three other passengers in the vehicle. A deer ran in front of the vehicle, and my son veered off to the right (in an attempt to avoid hitting the deer), ran off the shoulder of the road, and into a ditch. The vehicle did not roll over, but it came to rest on it's right side. The two front and two side airbags did not deploy. A fire ignited (almost immediately) in the engine compartment area of the vehicle. All passengers were wearing seat belts, and through the grace of god, all were able to escape the vehicle before it became thoroughly engulfed in flames. This is related to the fuel tank assembly recall 04v178000.

The passenger side air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic claimed that vehicle was working as designed.

Passenger's side air bag light stayed illuminated when the passenger seat was occupied. When an occupant was in the passenger seat sensor indicated that the passenger's side air bag was off. This should only occur in the unoccupied seat. Recall o3v322000 was issued, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

While driving between 35 and 40 mph, the vehicle was involved in a front end collision, both air bag deployed, but the drivers seat belt, didn't restrain the consumer. The consumer stated the seat belt on the drivers side did not lock in the crash. The driver of the vehicle is 5ft 6in. The consumer broke both sides of his/her chest bone. Please provide further information. When the driver side air bag deployed, it when in the air and did not protect the consumer from hitting the steering wheel. Cw.

Consumer's vehicle was hit on the passenger side door at 45 mph by another vehicle. . This occurred while the vehicle was at a complete stop, but idling. Upon impact, passenger side air bag and the frontal air bags failed to deploy . As a result, passenger's head hit the window, and his side hit the console. Also, driver sustained neck injuries and bruises.

Passenger's side air bag sensor is not working properly. The passenger-side front seat is supposed to have a sensor that activates the air bag system when someone over 56 pounds in weight sits in that seating position. However, this is not the case. The air bag system sensor will intermittently operate correctly. Consumer was advised that her vehicle's identification number is outside of the scope of the safety recall (campaign no. 03v-322).

The contact owns a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when the air bag warning light illuminated. The warning light continued to illuminate until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for the identical failure five times. The total repairs performed consisted of rerouting the air bag wire harness, tightening the pin connectors and the air bag terminal. Also, the air bag module connector was repaired. The vehicle was repaired for a recall under the NHTSA campaign id number 00v332000 (air bags: side /window); however, the remedy did not correct the problem. The failure continued to occur after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 7,364. Updated 11/11/10 the ignition cylinder would not turn at times. Updated 11/18/jb the seat track was replaced due to the seat being loose. Updated evoq 12/10/jb.

Vehicle was in a severe side collision, but the side air bag didn't deploy on impact. Vehicle was totaled.

I owned 1 2002 Hyundai Elantra, in which I was involved in a serious accident on the freeway. My car was only 5 months old when this accident occurred. This car was purchased because it had been equipped with 4 airbags, which included head protection. This accident occurred on February 19, 2003. I was hit by a semi truck, mainly on the drivers side, to which none of the 4 airbags deployed. Hyundai had been contacted, to which they claim there was no possible fault of the manufacturer. I am permanently disabled due to this accident, which left me with a brain injury as well as numerous permanent issues. We are working with senator timothy grindell in the state of ohio, to make "road rage" (which had been the reason for this accident), in trying to make road rage a punishable crime in the state of ohio. We have not been compensated in any way from Hyundai motor company, not even another vehicle, since my car had been totaled. Can you please tell me if anything can be done since I recently found out that there has been a recall on the exact part that they found to be faulty, in that none of the air bags deployed. I am eager to get some kind of information, with the hopes of helping others in the future, in that these cars are unsafe, and that Hyundai will not take any kind of responsibility in this case. I appreciate any kind of help in my case, thank you very much!.

Contact stated on 10-16-2002 his wife was driving at 20 mph and was involved in an accident. Someone hit the contacts vehicle on the left front wheel on the driver's side, but it also affected the passenger's side which was where their handicapped son was sitting and was injured. The passenger side air bag came out, but it was not inflated, it was torn. Hyundai said they were not responsible. Everyone was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. There were pictures, and a police report. The air bag displayed a 4-5 inch gash. It deployed but it was flat. The vehicle was a total loss.

If I was going any faster or hit any harder or by a larger vehicle, I wouldn't have survived. I find ir unbelievable that my car was hit on the front corner passenger side and that airbag, nor the side airbags inflated. D.

Consumer rearended another vehicle while driving 35-45 mph, a second vehicle hit consumers drivers side door upon impact, driver and passenger airbags failed to deployed. Minor injuries, vehicle was totalled.

Driver's side air bag deployed without reason. Airbag light was on for 48 hours prior to air bag deploying. Contacted dealer. Dealer stated it was the moisture inside vehicle reason airbag deployed. Abl. Pco.

Owner stated the vehicle srs light came on and dealer said it was defective and driver's side airbag, which would have been inoperable, if the airbag was to deploy. Vehicle also experienced numberous other problems, such as fuse blown out, heater problems and electrial problem.

Driver hit the front end of vehicle against a guardrail at about 50mph, and neither driver's nor passenger's side airbags deployed.
