1 Transmission Noise problem of the 2020 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/30/2024

Took our vehicle to the local Hyundai dealer on 1/30/2024 to have them look at the engine as my regular mechanic stated the "engine was knocking" at the most recent oil change, and get it to the dealer as it should be under warranty. Turns out it did need an engine which they replaced yesterday finally, however when they took it for a test drive they still heard noises. They examined it further and today they notified me it also needed a new transmission. This vehicle we have had since we bought it new in January of 2021, had less than 10k miles on it when we took it into the dealer on 1/30/2024. This is absolutely unacceptable. Thank goodness I had all my receipts to prove regular proof of maintenance esp since I have a regular guy and did not have it done at the dealers.

4 Transmission Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

Transmission made a loud scraping noise as I started out from a stop. It was hard to get the car going, but I got the car to go a short distance (about 1/4 mile) but it was too difficult to drive. When I pulled over, I heard the scraping again. I had to call twice for a tow; the first driver said there was nothing wrong except oil under the car. I could not get it going, so I had it towed by a second driver to the closest dealer, who refused to consider that the transmission might have a problem and the fluid might be from that. He refused to check the car unless I paid $110 upfront. Since he had taken out the oil filter, I told him to change the oil; they finally did after some time and then when thet tried to drive it, they could not get it to go more than 10 mph, and decided it was the transmission. They kept the car and did not give me a work order, which is contrary to California state law. I had to call the next day to insist that they email it to me. It took seven days for the part to arrive and for them to fix the car, which I picked up on March 5. I am currently having pickup problems in the lower gears (from 0 to 35 mph) with the new transmission.

5 Transmission Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

Almost every time I have started the vehicle and placed in drive from reversing out of my driveway, the vehicle jolts and seems that transmission is lagging or changing gears abruptly. The service engine light went on and I had made an appointment. When I took it in for inspection, the dealer said they could not recreate what I was talking describing. In addition, when I drive the power steering has had some issues. It has never drove in a straight line after two alignments. And it can be tough to turn the wheel. When I contacted the dealer about how I hear a clunking sound when driving over bumps, he test drove it and was confirmed that he agrees that there is clunking noise, but said he cant pinpoint it and it will have to get worse before he could tell.

6 Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

The contact owns 2002 Hyundai Elantra. The contact heard a clicking noise while driving approximately 60 mph. The vehicle stalled as transmission fluid spilled to the ground. The contact was able to coast unto the road shoulder and the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where it was diagnosed as a hole in the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and would not assist with the repair due to the age of the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was 47,000.

8 Transmission Noise problem of the 1999 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/12/1999

Transmission would make clunking/shattering and whinning noises. Took to dealer & transmission replaced with new one. The whinning & shattering noises still exist. Had the final drive unit (transaxle) & bearings replaced. It had a high pitch whine. After replacement, noise still exists, but now it bucks.

9 Transmission Noise problem of the 1996 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/16/1998

Engine lights comes on,surges, misses, jerks, dies, tapping noise, loses power, these things have happened repeatedly. Other repairs 9-26-98 alternator, generator mileage 24662: 10-29-98 missing and rough idle couldn't find problem, mileage 25350; 3-22-99 plug and cable set changed again, mileage 29167; 4-12-99 replaced transmission part, mileage 29760; have talked to consumer assistant center, the dm,all I am told is to keep taking it in . Am very unhappy with this car and am afraid to drive it on the highways because it lost all power when driving on I- 65. Was towed in 2 times because of no power. They offered for me to trade it in on a new car, that would mean another 5 yr. Loan and another $50. 00 a month payment. I did not feel this was a very good solution . Service dept. Has been good as trying to find the problems, but I am not happy that they have not replaced this car at no cost to me, for all the problems I have had.
