Air bag warning light is on and stays on. I went to the dealer and they said the clockspring needs to be replaced. This should be recalled. There are other vehicles affected, not just mine. My friend with a 2011 sonata has the same problem. I don't know why they won't do a recall. . .

Back in 2011, our 2009 Hyundai Elantra airbag light would stay on intermittently when the passenger seat was slid back. The light would go off when the seat was slid forward. Hyundai issued a recall in 2011 adding a cover to a sensor that seemed to fix the issue. Now, July 2015 and the airbag warning light is on and stays on. It started again when I: entered the vehicle, started it up, the airbag light went off. I then dropped two rental dvd movie cases on the passenger seat cushion, the weight of the two meager plastic cases triggered the light to come on the instant the cases landed on the cushion. It has stayed on since.

Airbag warning light is illuminated in instrument cluster. Brought it to the dealer for routine maintenance and had them look into it at that time. They said the weight sensor in the front passenger seat is malfunctioning. This sensor tells the airbag system if someone is sitting in the front seat and whether it should be on or not. The on/off light by the controls appears to be working properly. Meaning if someone is sitting in the seat, the airbag off light is not illuminated. The dealer stated that the sensor is measuring a negative 100+kg. The only way to repair the problem is to replace the sensor which entails replacing the seat bottom. They quoted $1500 to do the job. The airbag system is still working but it takes over 100 kg to turn on the passenger airbag.
The passenger seat weight classification sensor failed and as a result the car shut down the airbag system. The airbag warning light is on and as such none of the airbags will function. The dealer quoted me at nearly $2,000 to fix the problem, and mentioned replacing the entire seat bottom. Requiring a complete seat replacement for a simple sensor seems like a major design flaw. Meanwhile, this really affects the safety of the vehicle as the airbags are not functioning.

2012 Hyundai Elantra limited. The airbag warning light appeared randomly at first then remained on constantly. Over time, functionality of all steering wheel mounted controls for cruise control, trip computer, bluetooth, audio system, and horn were lost. I disassembled the steering column to access and remove the air bag clockspring. I tested the connections for continuity with a handheld meter and found none on any terminal. The clock spring failed.

Airbag warning light on the dashboard would turn on when the passenger seat was moved forward. We received a recall on the issue and it "appeared" to fix the issue once completed, but the issue has been happening intermittently throughout the past four years. Today, the airbag warning light stays on at all times as of July 5, 2015.

1. There were no noticeable events that led up to the failure. Hyundai had a recall on the air bag sensor control module in October 2008 (recall id# 80141 & 80132). I had them install the new wiring harness and clips to prevent a spontaneous failure, but I had a failure none the less. 2. The front driver and passenger seatbelts failed without warning. I heard a loud bang noise and the seatbelts tightened up on both front passengers. I noticed an odor after the event and the seatbelts would not extend or retract and the air bag warning light was illuminated. I understand this safety feature was meant to deploy in the event of an accident, but I didn't hit anything. 3. I took the 2001 Hyundai Elantra in to Hyundai to diagnose the failure. The following codes came up on the computer: b1361, b1360, and b1366. I was told I needed to replace the front seat belts and air bag control module.

Owner of a 2007 Hyundai Elantra (<20,000 miles). Brought it in to dealership 3x for airbag light being on. Now found out the dash and floor wiring harness need to be replaced due to cupholder leaking condensation onto wiring harness and shorting it out, thus disabling the air bag system. Not covered under Hyundai warranty. Exact same problem that was issued a recall for in 2001 Hyundai Elantra model "Hyundai is recalling certain my 2001 Elantra vehicles. If a liquid is spilled in the area of the cupholder on the center console, it may seep through the console opening for the parking brake lever and then drip onto the air bag control module electrical connector. The spilled liquid may contaminate the air bag control module and its electrical connector to the air bag wiring harness and cause the supplemental restraint system (srs) warning light to illuminate. ".
The contact owns a 2004 Hyundai Elantra. She stated that the airbag warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. There was an open recall on her vehicle, (see NHTSA campaign id number: 03v322000), however the dealer attempted several times to re-program the sensor but to no avail. He then stated that he would have to remove the front driver's and passenger's side seats in order to accurately repair the airbag sensor, however the costs in doing so would not be covered by the manufacturer. The contact stated that if there was a defect in the vehicle, she should not be liable for the repairs. The recall is still open on the vehicle. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were under 90,000.

Two weeks after purchasing this vehicle the air bag warning light came on. I made an appt with fuccillo Hyundai of schenectady NY, the location where I purchased the vehicle, for one week later. Light went off after 3 days and I contacted fucillo and they told me to make another appt if the light came on a again. It did multiple times over the next several months, I made appts, the light went off after a few days, and fucillo Hyundai kept telling me to make another appt if the light came on again. The air bag light did this for months and in early 2010 while in cocoa florida the light illuminated and I visited cocoa Hyundai and they told me not to drive the vehicle if the light came on, the airbags would not work in an accident, they offered me a loaner to drive and they began work on the vehicle within the hour. Light came on after a short period of time, had it in to cocoa Hyundai a second and then yet again a third time over 2 months. The light has been going on and off for the past 3 1/2 years and it has now been on for the past 4 months, I can`t afford to have the vehicle into the shop on a regular basis and would like you to look into this make and model for air bag defects.
Defect of airbag safety equipment. The malfunction of the occupant classification system (OCS) in the right front seat. The purpose of the OCS is to disable the right passenger seat front air bag when it detects the presence of a child restraint system or small child in the right front seat. The right front air bag is disabled to prevent injuries to a child that may result from a right front air bag inflation during a crash. The above is taken from an active recall on another Hyundai model with the same equipment. This was the second time this happened while my wife was seated in the front passenger seat while the vehicle was moving. The warning light came on for no apparent reason and showed the passenger airbag was not active. Common sense would warrant concern about this being same problem as in recall id # 08v161000 - air bags. If you need any further information, please let me know. This should be looked at, as this is serious potential safety issue in the event of an accident.
The contact owns a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. The brakes were pumped several times before the vehicle came to a complete stop. A small amount of smoke appeared underneath the hood. The air bag and engine warning lights illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. In addition, the contact exerted more effort to turn the steering wheel as if there were no power steering. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they replaced the power steering hose. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 98,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated upon starting the vehicle and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure where the dealer discovered a connection problem and cleared the failure codes. The failure recurred within one year. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and again, the dealer reconnected the wiring harness for the driver side air bag. The failure recurred three times in a one day period and the dealer made repairs for a third time yet to no avail. The manufacturer advised that his vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 08v532000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 50,776 and the current mileage was 125,200.
The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. When the ignition was activated the air bag warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer for the malfunction since NHTSA campaign id number 08v53300 (air bag frontal sensor/control module) recall was previously repaired. The air bag warning light continued to remain illuminated when the engine was on. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 50,000.
While driving the air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. Dealership inspected vehicle several times, technician indicated to consumer the passenger had to weigh 66. 4 pounds in order for the air bag light to turn off, although with people who weighed over 100 pounds the air bag light was still on.
While driving passenger air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. As a result air bags became inoperative, and wouldn't deploy when needed. Dealership inspected the vehicle three times and could not duplicate or correct the problem. Finally, technician urged the consumer not to worry about that light, but problem still existed.
When driving at an undetermined speed air bag warning light appeared on the dashboard. Consumer informed the dealer about this issue. However, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.
Warning light comes on and off on passenger side while in motion.
Abs warning light intermittently flashes on and stays on while driving. This could result in either none deployment or premature deployment of air bags. Cause of the problem undetermined. Abl. Pco.
