7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2015

I went to a local garage to have my vehicle inspected which passed with no problem. As I was driving my car out of the garage I noticed that the air bag light was on and notified the attendant who shrugged it off and said it will probably go off on it's own. Needless to say it has been over a week and the light is still on. From everything I have seen, this is an on-going problem with this make and model and it sounds like a very expensive fix to the problem. It is also a danger because the air bags will not deploy in a crash. I think that Hyundai should definately do a recall on this ASAP.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

After my 2007 Sonata air bag warning light first came on, I phoned my hundayi dealer where I purchased my car new- waikem auto in canton, OH. They said they had a safety recall on it, and to bring it in. After I took it in, and they inspected it, they told me it wasn't the recall they thought it would be. They said it was due to my front seat belt sensors - both failing - that was causing my air bag light to come on & stay on. Also, they told me it was not covered under warranty, and then I was told that my air bags would not deploy because of this seat belt sensor failure! it is expensive to repair. My complaint- why would a seat belt sensor be tied to my air bag function ?? this is not right. My seat belts function fine. I see on news today, that you have other complaints with the same issues, and are investigating the matter. I want to file my complaint for the same reason as others have lodged, and feel that hundayi should be made to make a recall and repair these seat belt sensors, so that my air bags will function properly should I have an accident.

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Air bag warning light comes on, stays on while driving. This happens intermittently. In the following weeks sometimes light comes on and stays on during a trip, on another day it stays off. Happens when nobody in front passenger seat, and also when an adult sits in passenger seat. Dealer inspected car on 3/25/13 and said that the control unit needs replacing at a cost of about $270. Thinks that when light is on, air bags may or may not deploy. Claims there has been no recall, but it seems to me I have seen a recall notice for that problem.

I own a 2007 Sonata. On March 5, 2011, or there abouts, the air bag light came on and stayed on. I took the car to the dealer and they had to replace the fzo cushion in the passenger seat. Was not warranted and the repair cost $1120. Air bags would not deploy unless this was repaired.

17 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2009

I purchased a used 2007 Hyundai Sonata on 5/29/2009 with 26,923 miles from gettel Hyundai, sarasota florida. I took it back to the dealership on 12/14/09 (34,151 miles) because the air bag light remained on. They found b1706 error (the passenger seat belt buckle resistance was high) so they replaced the passenger seat belt buckle assembly with no charge. On 6/8/12 (61,000 miles) I took the car back to the dealership for the same problem. The technician found codes: b1448, b1701 and b1706. The repairs were not cover by warranty and would cost $800. I declined the work. Before I left they told me that the airbags may not deploy if I were in an accident. Last month I found out that there was a recall of 2007 Hyundai Sonata back in April 2008 to replace the airbag sensor in the passenger seat cushion which caused the airbag light to remain on. Today (7/18/2014), (91,000 miles) I took my car in to the dealership for the recall repair and they told me the problem was with the front passenger cushion airbag sensor and with both seat belt buckle sensors. They will ship the front passenger cushion seat to California to fix the airbag sensor problem for free but it would cost $630 to replace both seat belt buckle assemblies. The service manager said if I declined to replace both seat belt sensors that the airbags would not deploy if I ever get into an accident. Well, I cannot afford the repair. It is a sad situation. Hyundai must know by now there is a problem with the seat belt assembly, it is all over the internet. It seems to be all about money and that Hyundai is paying for the cost of recall repairs for the seat cushion sensor by charging folks to have the seat belt assemblies replaced. I'm sure some lawyer will find out about this problem and find people injured due to the seat belt assembly malfunctions and file a lawsuit. I just hope no one dies because of it.

18 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The OCS (air bag detection system) in the front passenger seat was improperly repaired by the dealer due to a recall. The air bag light does not detect when the seat is occupied. The contact believes that the passenger side air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash. The current mileage was 32,800 and failure mileage was 30,029.

19 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. When a passenger who weighed 130 pounds occupied the front passenger seat the air bag warning light illuminated indicating that the air bag was inoperative. The warning light improperly identified a small stature adult as a child in the front passenger seat. The failure to properly identify the passenger could result in injury or the air bag not deploying when necessary. After the failure occurred he received recall notice #08v161000 for the air bags. The technician replaced the seat and immediately the failure recurred. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The vehicle has not been properly repaired. The failure mileage was 6,500 and the current mileage was 8,000. Updated 01/14/09. Updated 01/15/09.

20 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2008

In the 2007 Hyundai Sonata there is an indicator light which lights up when the passenger airbag is disabled. According to the manual, this light is supposed to be off when a person is seated in the passenger seat, indicating that the airbag will deploy in the event of an accident. Often, the light remains on, indicating the airbag is disabled, when a 130 lb adult is seated in the passenger seat. No amount of movement causes the light to turn off. I have spoken with both the local service desk and Hyundai customer service. Both have acknowledged that they are aware of the problem, and that the airbag will not deploy while the disabled light is lit. However, neither knows how to fix the problem or is willing to resolve this problem at this time. I am uncomfortable having a passenger in my vehicle with the faulty airbag sensor because the airbag may be disabled during an accident.
