6 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2016

The last week of October 2016, my Sonata''s air bag warning light came on and has stayed illuminated for the last two weeks. Simultaneously, the right passenger seat's seat belt warning light has stayed on even when no one is in the seat. Also, the "passenger seat air bag off" light has come on.

7 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2016

The air bag warning light (remains on constantly) and passenger side seat belt warning lights remains on even with a passenger above the weight limit. The air bag warning light will not turn off and the passenger side seat belt light will not turn off even when the seat belt is hooked up. There is a recall for faulty sensors, recall notice, 08v161000, for 2006 - 2008 Hyundai Sonatas but my 2007 is not covered? I feel like my Sonata has many of the issues in past recalls but for some reason isn't included in them (outside lighting, esc light periodically kicking on, brake sensor failing numerous times, continuous issues with rear brakes, etc. ) I think Hyundai should expand this airbag recall as I hope we aren't being put in harms way with an unexpected airbag failure when we need it most.

8 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

The air bag warning light and passenger side seat belt warning lights come on when I start the car. The air bag warning light will not turn off and the passenger side seat belt light will not turn off unless the seat belt is hooked up. I understand that these may be issues associated with faulty sensors. This is particularly disconcerting because I've reviewed the issues on-line and it's possible the air bag system may not be operating properly. I've seen that other Hyundai owners have tried to deal with these same issues and gotten little or no satisfaction from their Hyundai dealership. There was an extended recall notice, 08v161000, associated with the passenger side air bag for 2006 - 2008 Hyundai Sonatas but my 2007 is not covered? is there a way to find out why that is?.

13 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

I have had continual problems with the air bag dashboard warning light coming on and staying on in my 2007 Sonata. The standard repair from Hyundai is to replace a faulty seat belt buckle. This can be either the driver side or the passenger side. To date, I have had three seat belt buckles replaced (2 driver, 1 passenger, as well as the OCS recall work done). One was under warranty and two were out-of-pocket expenses. The most recent replacement was April, 2014. The air bag warning light is on again, but this time the passenger seat belt warning light is continually flashing while driving, when no one is in the passenger seat. The only way to stop it is to buckle the passenger seat belt. I have contacted Hyundai in the past to suggest very strongly that this is a product defect in the 2007 Sonata and a major safety issue - the air bag system is disabled when the warning light is on. They have never seen it that way.

18 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

The 2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS 4 cylinder 2. 4 l, at 39 225 miles, the airbag warning light stayed on. I took it to the circle Hyundai dealer in shrewsbury NJ to check it out. The mechanic looked at the car and I was informed that the seat belt pre tensioner needed to be replaced and that it was not covered under warranty. The cost to me out of pocket would be $ 450. 00 I did not have the repair completed. I have read many, close to 100 complaints on just this same issue, on just this same vehicle model and make being reported on this NHTSA website. It is overdue for a recall of this problem on the 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The owners of this make and model are a risk of injury to their persons should they be involved in a car crash and the airbag not responding and protecting the occupants. . I have also read that other owners of this year, make and model have had many of the same mechanical problems and posted them here on the NHTSA website and have paid out of their pockets to repair their vehicles. Repairs such as rear disc brakes that are staying onto the rear rotors, caliper not releasing and wearing out the disc pads and rotors prematurely, also the driver and passenger sun visors that drop down and block your line of sight, and nearly cause an accident. Loyal owners of these Hyundai vehicles should be reimbursed for the repair costs to them to keep the cars safe. Action should be taken to start a recall of these many manufacturing defects that can harm or injury to the occupants of these vehicles.

The air bag warning light stays on constantly. The dealership said the sensor was triggered due to a faulty passenger seat belt assembly and needed to be replaced ($385). This was not covered by our extended 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Must have been front bumper to front bumper coverage. Fortunately, we did not have to wait for an accident to see if the air bags would deploy or not. Regardless, the company has failed to stand by its safety features. . Even with repeated complaints, Hyundai has still failed to recall the vehicles for this issue.

Air bag warning light went on and stayed on after horn was honked. Air bag warning light is still on. How is it that this is not a long-term warranty item similar to seat belts? after a simple web search, it appears these senor type systems do not last for the short warranty period allowed. I don't have $300. 00 to fix this.

I noticed the air bag warning light was constantly on several weeks prior to servicing. 1/21/12 (97,624 mileage), code causing air bag light was cleared (code not indicated to owner). On 8/18/12 (111,685 mileage) the air bag warning light was constant again. Dealer reset the light. On 1/17/14 (141,400 mileage approximate) vehicle was brought in for OCS and brake light recall. Again air bag light was on code b1706 (passenger pretensioner) was scanned. Dealer said air bag light issue is not covered under any recall and repair of this essential safety item would be the responsibility of the owner. 29 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

I had not had very many riders in the front passenger seat of my 2007 Hyundai Sonata until I went to upstate NY for a family reunion. During my 2 week stay in NY I had passengers riding in the front seat on numerous occasions. When I was returning home to CT I noticed that my red "air bag" light was on. From that point it has been on continuously. I called lia Hyundai in hartford, CT and they said they would have to do a diagnostic test to determine the cause and since my vehicle was not under warrantee, I would have to pay for the test and any repairs. I opted to not have the test and repairs done. In 2013 I received a notice from Hyundai about a recall involving the front passenger seat and air bag deployment and warning light. I had moved to FL in April of 2013 and after I had settled in, I called cocoa Hyundai in cocoa, FL. The service department told me that if my air bag light was on continuously, any repairs would be covered under the recall. On 7-25-13 I brought my car to cocoa Hyundai to do a diagnostic test. After a wait of around 2 hours, the service manager told me that the cause of the air bag light staying on continuously was a sensor in the front passenger seat's seat belt buckle. He said this repair was not covered under the recall and it would cost me $481 to repair. I opted not to have the repair done because the quote to repair a seat belt buckle ($481) was outrageously high. I have since been notified by Hyundai that cocoa Hyundai did not follow the protocol for this air bag/passenger seat recall which required the dealer to remove the seat, have it sent out for testing and provide the owner with a loaner car. I am on a 4 month waiting list to have the proper test at cocoa Hyundai.
