The airbag warning light in my car is always on, it won't go off. It was repaired by Hyundai service center under an extended warranty a few years back but now they said that they won't fix it again.
The contact's daughter owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer determined that the front passenger's side seat cushion assembly needed to be replaced due to the occupant classification system (OCS) failure. The dealer related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags). The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired because the part had been discontinued. The dealer referred the contact to the junkyard to purchase the parts. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the same assessment. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 181,416.
While driving on expressway the red air bag light went on for no apparent reason and will not turn off. I tried to reset by disconnecting the car battery, but it's still on. This happened about 2 months ago. The car has never had a bag actuate I had heard that air bag malfunctions and some emission problems are covered regardless of age or mileage as long as they have not been tampered.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was informed that there was no recall associated with the VIN and that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was 133,379.
2007 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regard to airbag safety recall.
I recently purchased this vehicle from my father. I believe there is a faulty sensor in the passenger airbag sensor for their OCS (occupant classification system). The warning lamp for 'air bag' stays on when operating the vehicle. When starting the vehicle with no passenger, the lamp to show there is no passenger comes on but then turns off. It does the same thing with a passenger in the seat. The lamp to show there is no passenger used to stay lit, when there is no passenger. I have tried to address the issue with Hyundai about 2 or 3 times by calling customer service by phone and they told me all 3 times that there are no "open recalls for this vehicle at this time. " but I can clearly see through records that recall no. 08v161000 addressed this very issue. I will attempt to make an appointment with one of their Hyundai dealerships but I believe there is a safety issue here. Thanks!.

Sensor for right passenger airbag not working and passenger buckle sensor flashing when no one is in seat. Airbag light in main dash will not turn off.
Air bag light is on due to bad OCS - occupant classification system on the passenger seat. It is a safety issue and airbags wont deploy in case of an accident. Passenger seat bealt light is blinking even withoit passenger. Problem has been confirmed by the service center and reported to the manafacturer. There is an open campain 083 for Sonatas with this issue but not all vehicles are included, VIN of my vehicle is not included even if it has the same issues as described in the campain.

Airbag light stays on because passenger side seat.
I took the car in for a recall/warranty repair on 3/28/2021. The part (seatbelt/airbag sensor/pre tensioner) has still not been delivered to the dealer so that they can repair the vehicle. The part being defective prevents the airbag sensor from operating correctly and, as such, the airbags will not work in the event of a collision. This car is my daily driver and has largely been parked idle for 12 months. For the entire year, I have been fighting with their corporate customer support team and there has been no progress whatsoever on securing the part. They have given me numerous dates for the part to arrive. None of them have been met. No new date has been provided. The dealer blames Hyundai corporate, Hyundai corporate blames the 'distribution centre' and so on. The car is unsafe with no airbags and there is no resolution in sight.
My mechanic advised me of airbag code b1448 and advised me he rad my VIN to check any open recalls. He stated my VIN is not in airbag recall related to this code but that there were aibag OCS codes on that model year which came up b1448 that were covered. I cobtacted Hyundai north America and went over with them a series of questions relating to the vehicle. Hyundai advised me that I may be covered by vehicle passenger OCS recall. Dealership refused to diagnose without a charge. Also tried to instead sell a battery despite being new one. Contscted Hyundai north America again and referred me out but stated while this is recall it doesnt apply to VIN. I am not going to deal with intermediary however, I chose to deal with you directly to resolve what personal mechanic is telling me is an absolute model year code recall thst just happened not to include my VIN.
Sri bag light stays on when driving.
Airbag on the passage side won't go off, seatbelt get stuck at time, paint peeling off the body back ,side and top and the window on the passage side won't go down.
Takata recall. My car has a manufacturing defects like the esc and the airbag signs are on. So I want it to be recalled. Thank you. Hyundai Sonata 2007.
On Dec. 10, 2016 , while waiting for a traffic light (stationary) . . . There was an experience of a very loud explosion. . . While waiting for the traffic light. . Not knowing if I was hit by another vehicle or the unknown, I covered my head . . . Because of the parts from inside my car, was flying forward, and also smelled a slight burning smell inside. Not seeing any indications of another vehicle hitting me. . And also had the right of way , when the light turned green to turn left. . I pulled over to further check my vehicle. . . . My driver's side interior headliner had been damaged (driver's side) all the way to the (driver's side rear) and/middle( headliner). Also passenger rear back headline border cracked and found the dome light cover also blown off. . . And on the passenger floor.
The car was involved in an accident in city streets of hialeah florida on a 4 way stop(my son was driving) and was declared total loss by insurance company none of the airbags deployed. He hit mid drivers side of a a flat bed truck and front of my car was crushed. Thank god my son is ok. With the amount of damage on the car one of the airbags should have deployed. I have reported this incident to Hyundai and have not received any comment from them yet.

Investigation seat belt buckle electrical malfunction NHTSA action number: pe14023 NHTSA closed this investigation 12/1/14 on the condition that Hyundai would extend the warranty to 15 years and 250,000 miles for this repair. Per the letter attached to the case I contacted Hyundai today to get reimbursed for the expense related to this issue ($380. 75). I spoke to two different reps at Hyundai and neither had any idea what I was talking about. So it's been three months since this case closed and Hyundai is not honoring the new extended warranty.
Our 2007 Sonata air bag red light came on for no reason, just as hundreds of others have said while researching the problem on the internet. Probably will not attempt to get help from Hyundai at this point since so many others have been charged $400 plus for repairs that only last for a short time, and need to be done again. Always liked this car till this issue started. Because of Hyundai's disregard for the safety of those who own their vehicles, I will be selling this car, never buy from Hyundai again and will inform others of this problem so they can avoid the danger and frustration of dealing with Hyundai.
1. The check engine lights continually goes on and stays on.
Dealer found codes b1706 and b1102 present. Dealer tech stated driver seat belt buckle needs replacing, with an estimated cost of $344. 56. The srs module is not allowing codes to be reset, needs replacing also, with an estimated cost of $1,004. 00. I see NHTSA has just started investigating the b1706 code -- my understanding from reading the other complaints is that a short circuit is causing the error code, and replacing the seat belt assembly is not permanently fixing the problem for most owners. Most owners mention repeat bills of about $350, but a few of the complaints mention much higher repair estimates, over $1,000. I suspect these estimates include replacement of the srs module, like my estimate did. Nhtsa should consider whether there is also a rash of srs module failures due to the same short circuit. My b1102 code, indicating a high-voltage error, could also be more common and could also be caused by the same short circuit.
My air bag has been on now for 2 months and like another complaints I was told that I could bring it and pay 85 dollars for them to run a test to see what was wrong. I took it in for the recall about the seat belt where they had to ship it to CA. If you know that you have had problems with your air bag system wouldn't it be good customer service to check it for free. My esc light will come on at least once or twice a month. I'm not sure what causes that problem to happen. I have a concern about the paint flaking off. I have read on other sites and spoke to several body shops about this concern. The body shops state that the problem lies with the primer not holding the paint. I've already had to have the roof repainted and now my trunk is down to bare primer. I don't feel that I should have to pay for another repair bill for something that happened at the factory. I'm just wondering if anyone else has complained about this?.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the front passenger seat intermittently failed to detect when a passenger was occupying the seat. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags) but failed to remedy the failure. The vehicle was not diagnose or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000.
I received a letter from Hyundai that my car was under recall (issue with the passenger air bag being DE-activated) & urged me to visit the dealer if OCS light was on. Hence I took it to the dealership based on this safety recall notice, there I was informed that they will perform the inspection and conditionally charge me $110 for it which I agreed and later my only options to get the car back after the inspection were either pay $110 inspection fee or the $350 to fix the issue which they deemed was not related to the recall and hence not covered. If Hyundai has a manufacturing defect should it not be their responsibility to inspect it to see if the recall is applicable instead of charging the customer for it? secondly, having critical safety features (that disables the entire OCS!) fail on the car just after warranty is very unfortunate, in this case the seat buckle pre-tensioner failed and disabled the OCS system (although I believe the seat belt and airbag would have worked fine with slightly less function if pretensioner added feature is not available). Please advise what I need to do since Hyundai refused to refund my payment. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vehicle struck and totaled yet no air bags went off.
Airbag warning lamp on the dash constantly lit after engine start. Failure of airbag system.
We took the car in for a recall on the OCS and the dealer found two fault codes b1701 and b1706 indicating that both passenger and drivers side belt pretensioners resistance is too high. I see there are many 2006 and 2007 soantas with a similar issue. Dealer wants a total of 871. 74. With the number of repeated complaints I think there should be a safety recall.
My son took my car to the Hyundai dealer in high point, nc, when the air bag flashed off/on when his 5' 3", 105 lb. Girlfriend sat in the passenger seat. The service mgr, [xxx] informed my son that a mat under the passenger was defective & ad to be replaced at my cost to correct the airbag safety issue. I contacted Hyundai USA. , case no. [xxx] was assigned. [xxx] is the case worker. [xxx] stated that my car was not subject recall no. 08v161000, manufacturing date start/end date:from 03/01/2005 to 01/11/2008; my car was manufactured in may 2006. TSB 08-01-006 also indicates that my car should be remedied under the recall. [xxx]stated that I had to speak with [xxx] at the dealer. I called the auto dealer on October 12 and 15, left a voice message for [xxx]to call me. He has yet to return my call. There are hundreds of similar voq's for this safety defect issue. Please contact the dealer and Hyundai USA so that my car can be remedied under this recall & TSB. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2007 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle air bag problems. The consumer stated the vehicle was serviced for air bag issues, several times. The last time the air bag illuminated, the dealer stated a code came up as a problem with the computer.
2007 Hyundai Sonata air bag malfunction light illuminated, and has remained illuminated; took the vehicle to Hyundai dealer for service according to Hyundai technical service bulletin 08-01-006-1 for Hyundai recall campaign 083, "2006 - 2008 Sonata - occupant classification system (OCS) reprogramming". Dealer, and then Hyundai regional service, refused to service the vehicle under their recall campaign despite repeated phone calls and escalation.
