Vehicle had been at st charles Hyundai automotive 8/19/19 replaced oil flow control valve. Contacted Hyundai dealer stated nothing they could do. Mileage 138,000 and all required service had been done. Recall 132 inspection had been done at approximately 58,000 on 2/15/16. Noted number of complaints to NHTSA showing numerous 2011 Sonata had engine failure after the extended format of 120,000 and many had failed a second time after engines failed. This vehicle was built at alabama plant. The Hyundai dealership stated the vehicle would have to be towed to their facility and inspected. The decision would be Hyundai USA not the dealership. It is hard to understand how this can not be a defective vehicle. The number of units repaired and repaired a second time goes against the averages . The number of fires that have resulted in total loss of vehicles appears to be and indication of numerous issues with vehicles from this plant. It will cost $4500 to replace this engine and Hyundai USA should bear some of the cost. If after engine replacement vehicle performed properly that would prove the correction, but many units had to have the neck filler replaced the plant had a problem. Engines failed with only 10,000, 30,000 65,000, 135,000 miles. The units that burnt were handled by insurance and Hyundai USA not held accountable. Please reopen the investigation on recall 132 the number of owners are bearing the brunt of Hyundai poor quality. Understanding they completely changed that engine in 2012 knowing the 2011 issues could not be fixed correctly.

Turned the key to the off position and back on and it just turned on again. Took it to harbor Hyundai this morning and they first said there was nothing wrong with it, then they told be the oil light went on and it could be engine failure and I should sell my car for parts or drive it until it fails. And what a coincidence that this morning a recall on 2013 - 2014 Hyundais with engine stalling. So Hyundai isn't doing anything for me. I need help, I think my car year should be included in this recap as well.

Car went in for engine test for the recall. Engine failed the test which should have meant that the engine needed to be replaced. After 90 days a Hyundai rep came to the dealership and determined that the engine did not need to be replaced. If the car fails the test how can they just deem that they don't need to fix it. Also can I request that they sign a letter of liable in the event of future engine issues, since they won't fix a government mandated recall, how will I ever get them to own up to any other issues that arise?.

As I was driving the vehicle , I was experiencing loss of power and even engine failure. Re-started and continued to proceed. Traveling approximately 25 miles per hour down hill coasting, engine died for the third time in less than 4 blocks. Pulled over attempted to re-start again and heard a loud bang under the hood. Pull off to side of road , to view lose of oil and steam from engine. Open hood view smoke and plenty of oil sprayed out back of engine. No power or ability to move vehicle. Called tow truck and once received information from mechanic that rod went through engine block. I repaired the vehicle with $4800. 00 cost and a used 2013 engine. 26 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

I was on the freeway driving at 65 mph when the engine stalled and shut off. There were no warning lights indicating an issue with the engine. I was informed later by my mechanic that the engine had a catastrophic failure. The brakes failed because the engine was not running. I was lucky and able to coast to the next exit, the stop light was green and I could make it to safe location. Had the engine failed a few minutes earlier I would have been in the fast lane of the freeway trying to make it to the shoulder. Or trying to stop at a light with no brakes.

27 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2014

While driving home the car just stopped and shut off. Before shutting off it was like the car lost all power. What I mean is that the even though the gas pedal was pressed the car would not move. I had to leave my car on side of a very dark and dangerous road. The next day I went to retrieve my car. I saw oil spots on the ground where I had pulled off the road and under the hood. Again, my car would not start, so I had to tow it home. I called tuscaloosa Hyundai and they told me that since my car was past the mileage warranty that the cost would be on me and that I would need a new motor. I informed the mechanic about the complaints on the 2011 model and I was having the same issues before my car stopped. John told me that, I just cant believe everything that I read. I'm very unsatisfied with his comment. He told me that I would just need a new engine. I can not afford this. I know that I have taken care of my car and for Hyundai to sat this is my fault is garbage. They know that they have messed up and are refusing to fix this problem. There is a class action lawsuit against Hyundai for premature engine failure. I just dont know what else to do. I have been without my car for 6 months now and I haven't gotten any where. I still have a car note and insurance.

28 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2014

My 2011 Hyundai Sonata like many of the other complaints on here has had catastrophic engine failure due to a snapped rod. Like many of you I have kept up with the regular maintenance schedule and have been shut down by Hyundai for repair under the 100,000 mile warranty. This problem is a serious public safety concern as it happens while the car is in motion and my question is what will it take for the NHTSA to take action and fully investigate this issue and bring it to recall? with the amount of complaints listed on the NHTSA website for this exact issue it seems like they are waiting for injury or even worse to occur before this issue is taken seriously.

29 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

Engine seized and I had it replaced at a cost of$3,620. 04. As per the agreement they made regarding the engine failing due to metal objects being in the engine that was their fault, they would reimburse owners for this cost. I have been waiting over 6 months and when I called, they stalled by requesting me to prove I owned the vehicle by submitting my registration or insurance for the vehicle. I traded in the vehicle last fall and do not have the the items anymore . My name is on the bill I paid for the engine replacement, this is just another way they can try to not pay even they agreed to pay. The engine failed at the savannah airport.

My spouse was driving on interstate 280 southbound in the bay area during the morning commute when an engine rod came loose and punctured a whole in the engine causing catastrophic engine failure. The engine failure led to loss of power to the steering and brakes and the car coasted off the interstate exit ramp and eventually came to a stop after the emergency brake was engaged. The car has consistently received regular maintenance from the local authorized Hyundai dealer and car service provider. There was absolutely no warning before the engine flew apart. This was a very dangerous incident that could have led to the death of the driver, any passengers, and other drivers and passengers of nearby cars.
