6 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2018

The steering wheel clicks with a two inch play in either direction when the vehicle is stationary or in motion. The click is very loud plus the vehicle shimmies while being driven ! when the steering wheel is clicking a catch in the wheel can be felt! Hyundai dealer service man said the problem was a flexible rubber steering coupler and it was wore out down in the steering shaft . Hyundai customer relations dept. Told me the warranty on that part was extended to 100,000 miles but no notice was sent to the vehicles owner . I had to pay for the repair because my vehicle had 111,000 mile on it. I believe it is a critical safety issue that could cause a steering failure, based the degree my steering wheel was clicking and the two inch play that I was experiencing! the Hyundai complaint site is full of persons complaining about the same steering issue. During my many contacts with the Hyundai customer relations dept. I was told repeatedly that Hyundai does not recolonize this as a safety threat. I believe this should have been a recall at Hyundai's expense ! I also believe there are individuals driving with this dangerous condition because they cannot afford the expensive repair (+$400 ) that the dealer charges.

Representative showed us the part and stated that the material that it was made of was "too soft" and that the part would fail and leave the car "unsteerable" during operation. We authorized the repair of the steering flexible coupling part 56315-2k000-fff a $4. 41 part that required $270. 00 in labor to replace. This repair is not covered by Hyundai warranty. My fear is that other Hyundai Sonata owners will ignore or not notice the clunk of the steering wheels operation before this part fails tragically.

30 Steering Failed problem

We have been having several problems where we have been stranded because the vehicle will not start. It first happened in October 2011, when we first bought the car, and it was fixed. Now the vehicle would not start, making starter noises. Roadside assistance came, played with the transmission shifter, and got the car to start. It has pushbutton start. Yesterday, 3/14/13, the car was loaded up for a weekend trip, and the car would not start again made the same noise, however, the steering wheel failed to lock, and there was no way to shift the transmission. They had to take the vehicle to the dealership by flatbed. I am afraid the vehicle will stall out during driving, and since the powersteering doesn't work or lock appropriately, and the transmission cannot be changed, it's a severe safety threat. .
