When I was driving and going to do a turn the wheel turn to the other side by itself. I went to the Hyundai dealership on route four to get a diagnostic. They replaced my steering column and my brakes.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her mother was driving, the steering detached from the steering column. The vehicle was towed to her mother's residence and was later towed to mccombs superior Hyundai located at 4800 NW interstates 410 loop, san antonio, TX 78229, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the linkage from the steering column detached and needed to be replaced. The technician was unable to determine the cause for the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that it would be a week to two weeks before someone would get back to the vehicle owner. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.
The airbag light has been on and the steering has slowly gotten really loose and making clicking sounds. It now almost hitches when you turn it and our mechanic said it was unsafe to drive. The buttons on the steering wheel do not work either. We had our personal mechanic look at it and he found the extended warranty info from old recalls. He also called the dealer and they confirmed the extended warranty info on both the steering and the airbag. We then took it from our personal mechanic to the dealer and the dealer said it was not covered under the extended warranty due to the incorrect code during diagnostics. The charge is going to be $1950. 00 to fix it as it needs a whole new steering column and coupler and something else. We have had so many recalls fixed on this car that it's getting ridiculous. I love how they "recall" and pay for the little things, but not this big things that is serious and dangerous. We have received a letter stating that the engine could seize so just waiting for that to happen . . . . Not a very happy Hyundai customer at the moment. We will not pay the $1950. 00 and I will for sure keep fighting this battle. Hyundai should stand behind their products and it's obvious something is wrong as so many people have documented the same problems. They need to make this right and fix it before someone gets seriously injured.
There's a clicking sound in the steering column of my vehicle, first it was a problem with the cruise control system now it's the steering column. Stationary and in motion.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle violently vibrated with an abnormal rattling noise from the vehicle. The contact also mentioned that the horn does not work. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the steering column intermediate connections needed to be replaced. The VIN number was not included the NHTSA campaign number: 10v457000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000. Dr.
I was driving and my steering column started making a strange noise. The steering wheel has a lot of play in it. I was only about two miles from home, so luckily I made it. Upon a google search I realize there was a recall open on the steering coupling. I made an appointment to have my car looked at. When I dropped it off, I was notified I wasn't covered under recall because I was past the 100,000 mile warranty for the coupling. It's extremely sad that I had to pay $300 to fix a $5 part that Hyundai knows is defective.
The steering column is making clunking sounds when turning right or left and the vehicle has lost steering response. My own reading tells me that it is the bushing in the column, which has been worn down or broken; long story short - this is not a unique problem to me. The vehicle unsafe to drive at this point.
Takata recalls. Very very loose steering column. Makes a rattling/knicking noise especially if you hit a bump. Steering wheel is very loose and does not even lock. It makes noise when in park if you move or shake steering wheel. Then of course is worse when driving. Ive noticed it right after we bought it in febuary 2019. But didnt realize what it was.
When driving the car, the steering column makes clunking noises. We have taken the car to the Hyundai dealer for recall issues and have been told that since we took the car in during the initial recall and it was "fixed" (we challenge that the "fix" worked), that we will have to pay to have the car fixed, that we need to have the steering column replaced. The estimate given on 1/28/2018 was approx. $1,900. We feel that Hyundai is responsible for the problems we have been having for quite some time, due to the recall. The noise is very obvious, and we are concerned that the steering column is going to completely break and cause an accident. This happens every time the car is driven when turning the steering wheel. I am listing the date as today, though it has been ongoing for well over a year.
The steering column is rattling especially when going over bumps or when turning the steering wheel from right to left in quick motion.
2011 Hyundai Sonata is having a power steering and steering column issues of which apper to be identical to the steering component(s) issues correspond to that described in recalls: 10v457000 and 16v190000 . However, my 2011 Sonata, VIN: 5npec4ac1bh290512 and manufacture date April 27, 2011, does not fall within the stated manufacturer date(s) for recalls 10v457000 or 16v190000 although my vehicle is experiencing the exact same issues. In detail: the steering wheel feels loose/ sloppy while driving, especially on the highway, frequently when on the highway only the steering wheel will start to shake rapidly on and off randomly making a very uneasy and potentially unsafe drive for my self and other drivers. This issue does appear to be progressing. The steering column will also make a knocking-like noise when turning in either direction, at all speeds and when idling. This issue is also progressing.
Found out I had a recall on my airbag and there's a recall on my steering column called the company and they say there's nothing they can do for me for the steering.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel began to shake severely. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The contact also stated that the steering wheel started to become very loose in December of 2017 and progressively worsened. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
The steering column is rattling.
I am appalled at the conditions I've had to endure with my Sonata. I've never seen or owned a more unsafe vehicle. My steering column broke, the engine was replaced twice, I've dealt with electrical problems, now it's involved in the airbag failure recall and I've needed to take my car in due to the 13 recalls. My Sonata is one of the first made. It's from the alabama plant. I would like to hear why the NHTSA has not made Hyundai buy these vehicles back? I don't have the option of just going out and buying a new vehicle. I've raised my granddaughters and am now afraid to take them anywhere in my car. I'm begging that you make Hyundai get these cars off the road. It sickens me to know I've owned several Hyundais. Given them my trust and dedication to only feel they've turned their backs on me and the safety of my family. I'd really like to be contacted. I have records of all my work done. The only thing I could not get was receipts for warranty items they determined I didn't need receipts for. Even after I complained and demanded them. My vehicle was purchased and serviced at superior Hyundai north in fairfield OH. I have so many records, even recordings, that I can't possibly upload them all on here.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was stationary or while driving various speeds, the steering wheel made a loud tapping noise when turned left or right. An independent mechanic was made aware of the failure and stated that the steering column was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The steering column on my 2011 Sonata started making terrible noises due to a known issue with the steering shaft. Even though there is a formal NHTSA investigation NHTSA action number: pe10035) and recall (NHTSA recall no. . Read more...
After purchasing this car in 2018, I learned this vehicle had many recalls. After disagreements and arguments Hyundai, supposedly installed a brand new engine. I was then notified that I would have to pay out of pocket for the other recalls on this vehicle. After more debates and arguments they cleared out all of the recalls on this vehicle as if they were fixed, and they were not fixed. This is a safety hazard and needs to be investigated. I still have many issues with the so-called recalls such as airbags, driver seatbelt and steering column.
2011 Hyundai Sonata w/ 89000 miles. Bought less than 2 yrs ago, certified. Car has been making a groaning and clicking noise when turning the wheel, especially in reverse. Had car at dealership this weekend and they tell me the entire steering system is host. Need a new column, brackets, and coupling. This is not normal wear an tear on a car. There is a recall on the coupling but the rest is not covered and they want over $1000 to fix!.
For the last few months, my steering column shakes and rattles anytime it goes over 60 mph. I had a tire repair at a local shop and the guy suggested I may need an alignment but because they told me at the last minute of picking my car up at their closing hours and having to go to work, I waited to get it looked at. I took it to a local Hyundai dealer for one recall campaign and asked them to assess the issue with my steering wheel rattling and mentioned the guy at the other place mentioned an alignment. The guy dismissed the car symptoms I described and said the noise was from the bottom spoiler hanging. It wasn't assessed and I took it to a goodyear affiliate and they needed more time to assess why it was the steering but were able to tell me in fact that it was potentially loose. Between October 2017 and Jan 2018 is how long people have been looking at it with no assistance.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the steering column made an abnormal clicking sound when turned. The failure occurred without warning. Atlantic Hyundai (193 sunrise hwy n service rd, west islip, NY) was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 119,158.
Steering column making a terrible noise and shaking while driving.
Vehicle is making a loud clicking sound in the steering column and while turning either left or right its a double clicking loud sound. While the vehicle is at a still position when you turn the wheel you can hear a clicking noise both right or left. If you hit a bump you can hear a loud annoying sound like something is loose. It gets louder and louder. You can hear it over the radio. This happens either on streets and the interstate aka highway.
My steeeing column started making a terrible noise and started shaking made me very nervous to drive to the rest of the way home from church. This is a secondary road that is paved but has lots of curves . It also felt loose.
The steering column shakes like it's going to fall off. I have to be very careful when driving. I was told to drive careful over bumps. That is hard to do. It makes noises when turning.
I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata writing in regards to the Hyundai steering gear assembly recall no. 0## I have a vehicle that has this loose steering wheel concern where this vehicle is immobile now and cannot be safely driven anytime. This vehicle has been parked in my yard since it was picked up from the dealer several weeks ago. When I spoke to the local dealership about it, I am told it is not covered due to its mileage. This item has been a concern awhile and brought more clearly to my attention when driven by my father. He describes it as "a death trap" and told me not to drive it until it corrected. There is excessive play or a loose feeling in the steering wheel and it is very slow to respond. It feel like it will fall apart at anytime when driving and it has a clicking noise when making a turn either direction. I have written a letter to the Hyundai assurant program and I have been told the same thing; its not a covered warranty item. I says it is covered due to the recall no matter when it was discovered, because the assembly of the steering column is definitely malfunctioning. An upload of the letter forward to Hyundai assurant program is attached to this complaint. Unhappy owner oklahoma.
Clacking sound coming from the steering column when wheel is turned during driving and when the car travels over bumps in the road.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was operated, the steering column made an abnormal clicking sound. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and front wheel alignment. The contact was informed that the alignment could not be performed. The technician was informed that the error in the software for the power steering caused an error in their system; therefore, an alignment could not be performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The technician stated that the vehicle fell under NHTSA campaign number: 10v426000 (steering), but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 65 mph, a loud noise came from the engine and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and turned off. Previously, the steering column made a popping noise and the vehicle shook. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that nothing could be done. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall was closed and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 113,822.
I felt a "looseness" on my steering column especially when hitting a bump. I put the car in for service with my personal mechanic. He pointed out to me that a plastic gear well in the inside of the steering column had worn down . Almost at same time I received a recall notice from Hyundai entitled "collision risk electric power steering unit may loss" NHTSA code 16v190000. I called the service manager at carousel Hyundai in west chester PA. Where I purchased the car. He told me that the worn plastic gear was not part of recall and it was a separate issue. Implying that I would have to pay for it . This is a safety issue and they will have steering column apart for recall ,why can't they replace plastic gear while steering column is broken down. It is hard to reach space. I am taking car to dealer for two recalls tomorrow at 8:00. I will let you know what happens.
The steering wheel and column shake and make a horrible noise anytime I hit a bump in the road while in motion. It is only getting worse. It started out not doing it all the time and now it does it anytime I hit any slight bump in the road.
Knocking or clicking or rattling sound is heard any time I drive over 50 mph and especially when slowing down from highway speeds, in which case the noise becomes very loud and the steering column physically shakes. I feel endangered whenever I drive this car. It is a hazard and a potential life-threatening defect. I put today's date but this has been going on for months and is now starting in my wife's car (same make model year) as well.
The vehicle is in motion and every single bump or imperfection in the road results in the steering column clicking and rattling. Doesn't matter what u barely go over but it clicks constantly and rattles constantly. There should be a recall on this! it seems to be a very prevalent problem in Hyundai owners of the Sonata.
Steering coupler caused "clunking" sound while driving from under dash and in steering column. When I took this to dealer, by describing the sound they were able to tell me my make and model and said it was a known issue.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 60 mph, the steering wheel became very loose. There were no warning indicators illuminated.
