1. Steering feels tight and unresponsive. Have hadthis checked as a complaint at service center with no help. 2. Gear sticks in park. Recently was in service for another recall and was told for 130$ they would look at it. Very next week I was stuck for 1. 5 hrs until I could get it to move. Both problems hqve been reported numerous times with no repair. It only has 40000 miles. Do not call me with offer to look at it. They have seen it and problem is not addressed. Your service is just as important as the sell. . How can anyone recommend this kind of service?.

Steering is hard to turn when moving.

3 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2016

2011 Hyundai Sonata se with severe knocking and banging in steering wheel and column. My dealership diagnosed this as steering coupler failure. This is a safety issue despite Hyundai and it's dealers denying this fact. Steering is notably harder with low speed driving and feels uncomfortable at higher speeds. My spouse is afraid to drive the car until this is repaired. This issue is common on these early model Sonatas as well as the kia optima. The dealerships avoid this issue until after warranty period is over, then they tell customer that it's now their responsibility to repair at $400-600. 00. They are even telling customers that there is steering column failure and charging them thousands of dollars in replacement. I cannot understand how this is not considered a safety issue due to it being steering related.

4 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

I have had this car a little over a year now. It has made the same noise since I've had it. I've been to the huynda dealer many times. They don't understand what's wrong. When your car is between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpms or steadily at 2000 it makes a continuous raddle noise coming from the engine and continues until you take your foot off the accelerator. You want to know my opinion about the damn car? anyone who owns one should be given a new one. Because the car is a piece of crap. Now I also saw a complaint about someone having to replace the coupler. I have documentation that shows I paid the Hyundai to replace my steering coupler. It was over 300 dollars. When your driving down the road the steering is hard to control and the wheel makes a clicking noise. So I took it in and they coupler needed to be replaced. I want reimbursement and you guys should implement another recall about replacing everyone's coupler. You guys should make Hyundai give everyone a new car who has gone through al the mess we have.

5 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

I noticed a clunking sound when I turned the steering wheel. I also felt like the front tires and steering were very loose. Driving over bumps or pot holes the wheels felt like they were shaking even though the steering wheel was held tight and not moving. After researching this problem, I found that it is a common complaint due to a power steering coupling going bad. Sonata has a technical service bulletin 14-st-002-1 regarding this problem. I have attached the TSB. The problem became noticeable 5 years and 1 month after I bought the car. The TSB says there are "no steering performance issues associated with this condition". I strongly disagree with this statement. The degraded couple introduced play or wiggle room in the connection between the steering wheel and front tires. When the car is parked, you can rock the steering wheel back and forth to hear the clunking noise. When this is done, you can tell that the steering wheel was moving further than it should without the wheels moving. At first I thought my front wheels were loose. I believe that this issue is very much a safety concern and should be a recall. During my last visit to the dealer to fix other recalls, I paid the $275 to fix this problem since I did not feel safe driving the car with this problem. Since it was over 5 years, the dealer would not replace it under warranty. Thanks, wyman.

6 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

At 62,000 miles the steering wheel felt tight, and then suddenly it felt loose when I turned the wheel to the right, and then it started a clicking noise every time I turned the wheel to the right or left. Over the next 3,000 miles it has become progressively worse with clicking and rattling any time I turn the wheel, even sitting still. Going over any bump makes a rattling noise in steering column. I see this is a very common problem in 2011 Sonata's and wonder why there is no recall?!!.

7 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

The gear or some part in my steering column is not tight. There is a recall for this for my make model and year but not for my VIN. I need this fixed! it's been bad for a long time but I did not know until today when I had a mechanic look at it. He informed me there is a recall but it is only certain vehicles. Up to 139,000 vehicles for my make and model. Why is this an issue with my vehicle but not listed when my VIN is pulled up? more importantly, how do I get this fixed without having to pay for it since it's a known recall??? there is a metal on metal sound every time I start to turn my steering wheel either direction. I was informed today that it is really bad and can disconnect at any time and I would lose control of my steering. I drive 60 miles a day on the highway to get to work. I am not about to risk my life because Hyundai only wants to fix this issue on certain cars. It's always had a slight knocking when turning the wheel. I just wasn't sure what it was and it's gotten really bad in the last few months. I bought this vehicle 2 years ago and was told today that I should not even be driving it at all.
