Ball Joint Problems of Hyundai Sonata

Both the rear and front subframe have holes from rust which has started to cause numerous other issues such has ball joints tie rod ends.

Shaking in steering. . . (thought it was ball joints - metal to metal). . . Told there was no problem with ball joints & no other issues determined (with their test drive). Local Hyundai service manager would not return repeated calls for complaint. Very disappointed now that "factory warranty & recall for steering problem" not worthy of repair at that time. Violently shaking now and Hyundai service department says it is not part of a steering recall (previously patched). . . Said it is a steering coupling (not the u joint which was part of the recall).

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the ball joints, axle and steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000. . . . Updated 08-08-13.

After having repairs done under campaign 089 sub frame corrosion by Hyundai and paying 500. 00 for axle repair, 2wks later the opposite wheel collapsed out of the ball joint. 900. 00 repair bill and dealer indicated this was not related to the sub-frame recall. This is now 2 incidents where the wheels fell off the car while the driver was driving the car. Both were thankfully at low speeds in a parking lot.

2002 Hyundai Sonata failed at 6 mph turning a city street corner. The axle and ball joint fell off, taking the right front wheel with it. This car was 'repaired' a few years earlier when it was recalled for undercarriage rust. They sprayed a rubberized coating on the undercarriage, and told me I was good to go! we all know, there is no way to stop rust.
