2 Front Suspension problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/02/2010

Vehicle pulls hard left when accelerator is applied. Seems to go straight when no gas pedal applied. When applying more accelerator pedal, the more the car pulls to the left. Very hard to keep car straight. Dealer says it is normal for my car due to the fact that it is a turbo limited with a lot of torque. I test drove another limited Sonata turbo at another dealer the week prior to buying my car at this dealer and it did not have the same problem. It went straight as an arrow no matter how much accelerator pedal was applied. This has been going on since I took the car off the lot. I didn't think anything of it as the dealer said it was normal for a turbo vehicle. Again, the vehicle I test drove at another vehicle was the same turbo model and it drove straight as an arrow.

10 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/11/2009

I own a 2000 Hyundai Sonata. While driving my car at about 20-30 mph my sub-frame collapsed which caused my front drivers side tire to come completely off. When the subframe collapsed it fell on my axle which damaged. While there was a recall on the subframe my axle was not covered even thought the subframe collapsing is a direct result of my tire and axle detaching from my car. After voicing my concern Hyundai stated to me that they do not cover subsequently damage and that was nothing else to be said or done. This to me is a bunch of crap! if the subframe was not defective I would of never endured these problems with my vehicle. I have not had any major problems with my car until now. I have contacted Hyundai's consumer relations and they have done nothing no one is taking responsibility. I will contact my attorney general about this. This is not fair! thank god I was not seriously hurt because I would have been on my own. As they said they do not cover subsequently damages.

16 Front Suspension problem of the 2002 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/28/2009

My wife owns a 2002 Hyundai Sonata, and last week she noticed that the car was pulling hard to the right. She drives 60 miles round trip to her job 5 days a week. Once she told me about it, I took it in for service thinking it was in need of a wheel alignment. My technicians called me back to the service area and showed me where the sub frame had rusted completely through on the right front side. Also the right front wheel as tilted to the side slightly. I told them to begin repairs immediately, as my wife's safety is my top priority. I called Hyundai on 2/3/09 and informed them of the problem. I was given a case number, and told that they would contact me in 3 to 4 business days. I expect full reimbursement, as I now understand that this a common problem on this particular vehicle.

17 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/08/2009

The vehicle started rattling in the steering column and randomly jerking to the right slightly. Over a period of 2 days the jerking to the right frequently (about every 30 seconds or less) made the car almost uncontrollable. The wheel has shifted about 1 inch back on the passenger side. The car is in the shop now and the engine cradle has almost completely rotted out on the passenger side. If it had gone on for any more time, people could have been killed. The fix costs well over $800. 00 and I am absolutely outraged to see that this has happened in the same year and model of my vehicle to many other people.

18 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/31/2008

After failing a new york state inspection, I was shocked to discover that my 2000 Hyundai Sonata GLS had a rusted engine cradle the size of a fist on the right hand side. No previous inspections had indicated that there was this impending hazard. Consequently, I can no longer drive my vehicle, and according to the mechanic, it was a mere matter of days or a simple rough road that would have caused my subframe to detach without any prior warning. I have contacted Hyundai and am awaiting a response and fully expect them to not only repair the engine cradle, but make owners aware that models manufactured between 1999 and 2002 face this hazard to themselves and others on the road due to their own manufacturing defects.

19 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/30/2008

I have a 2000 Hyundai Sonata. When the car was first purchased in February of 2006 the car had transmission problems where the car would not accelerate past 25 mph. I had to have the transmission replaced. Then later in that year while driving on the highway at about 65 mph I noticed the car would sway dramatically when you turned the will right. Taking the car back to the dealer they claimed to be just that the car needed an aliment. Now in 2008 I have had to have the right axle of the car replaced because while pulling away from a stop light the right wheel fell from the car at a 45 degree angle. Taking it to a tire shop to have the car inspected they informed me that the whole front underside of the frame was drastically rusted and that driving the car in the state would lead to a wreck or worse. Now I am lost and don't know what to do I have done research on the problem and I have found over 20 reports of this car model having this problem and it is very upsetting that no recall has been placed on these death traps on wheels. Someone needs to take responsibility for this before some dies.

20 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/13/2008

Noticed that the tires were getting misaligned and the car keeps pulling to the right. Finally took the tire off and noticed that the passenger side sub-frame is rusted all the way through where all the suspension attachments are barely holding in its place. Nothing has been done to fix the issue at this moment due to its repair cost vs what the vehicle is worth.

The bolts that hold up the axle and suspension were completely gone and there was a hole in the under carriage. The wheel was tilted and the inside of the tire was worn all the way down . There was nothing there to support the wheel.

28 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/22/2008

This complaint involves a 2000 Hyundai Sonata. I was having routine maintenance done on the vehicle and was notified during service that the entire front end suspension and frame on my car is rusted out. When I looked at it, there were large rust holes apparent in the crossmembers and every weld I could see is completely covered in rust. My mechanic advised me that this is not normal for an eight year old car and that it may be unsafe to drive it much longer for fear that the suspension or frame will collapse.

29 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/07/2008

My husband was driving the car and suddenly, he heard a unusual sound coming from passenger side; being very far from home he could not stop but the noise gradually became serious. He pulled over, get off the car and realized that the front tire, passenger side was went behind the normal position and touched the body of the car. Later at the garage the mechanic put the car up and discovered that the engine cradle was cur and it took out the axle. (the car had been towed to get there). He told me that I need a new part that cost $850 and the labor could cost $500. My surprise came when I went online to search for a cheaper price: first of all I did not find one but instead, I found thousands of complaints from people around the nation, having experienced the same problem with the same car, same model, same year. This defection has caused problem to my family: renting car, towing, we still going through difficulties and we can not afford the repair neither drive the car.

30 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/05/2008

Driving at a low speed the passenger side front wheel suspension broke leaving wheel hanging and inoperable. Could not move car out of traffic lane. Upon inspection by the repair facility it was determined that rust to the sub frame and related bolts caused the failure. I was lucky that I was not driving faster.

32 Front Suspension problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

The Hyundai Sonata mine is an'06 has a strut problem in that it "thunks" on certain road surfaces and back into or out of driveways, I have tried in vain to get Hyundai corporate to do something about this problem only to fall on deaf ears, the edmonds car space forum is full of complaints about his problem. Factory reps say they cannot hear anything, dealers say there is nothing wrong with the car and it is up to corporate to issue a recall on these vehicles. This is a totally frustrating problem that they see fit to ignore and yet they have tsbs on two other of their vehicles with the same identical problem but choose to ignore the Sonata and azera which have the same problem. Everybody on the forum has tried in vain to get Hyundai corporate to do something about, but nothing we can do is moving them.

33 Front Suspension problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/25/2006

This complaint applies to a 2007 Hyundai Sonata limited (no option for 2007 was available in drop down menu) (issue 1) at or around the initial few days after taking delivery I began to notice abrupt vibration and shaking coming from the steering wheel; substantial enough to feel in the seat. Vehicle was taken back to dealership on 3 separate occasions to remedy the problem but they reported that they were unable to duplicate the problem and reported the vehicle to be in manufacturer specification. Nonetheless, dealer attempted wheel balance and radial force balance as a "good will gesture. " problem is now more articulated and the issue remains unresolved. (issue 2) engine emits a rattle noise similar to lifter clatter upon start and continues throughout operation; particularly in colder weather. Timing chain tensioner was replaced and one noise was resolved but the continual nature of the lifter clatter remains. Dealership and Hyundai representative reported that they were unable to duplicate the problem and the issue remains unresolved. (issue 3) fuel sloshing coming from the fuel tank. Manufacturer and dealer claims this to be normal and not a safety risk. Sound is more pronounced at or around 3/4 tank. Brought this to the attention of the dealer and the manufacturer directly and remains unresolved.

34 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/15/2006

Front end noise. Ak.

35 Front Suspension problem of the 2002 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/22/2006

While driving to maryland to visit my daughter, the right front end of my car began to vibrate so hard that I thought I had a flat tire. I was going about 65 mph and as soon as I could I pulled over to look at the car. There was no flat however, the vibration continued. It was vibrating so hard my glove compartment came open. I took the car to a dealership in maryland only to be told that my tires had dead spots in them and I should return them to the store. I have been driving on these tires for six months without a problem. When I returned home I went to the store where I purchased the tires. They examined them and said there was nothing wrong with the tires. I had the car completely checked out by the dealer before I took this trip. They told me there was nothing wrong with the car. The vibration continues but it is especially bad when driving a higher rates of speed. I am worried now about taking the car on trips. Believe me, you do not want to have a sudden breakdown or control loss on the DC beltway. Although the car is 4 years old I only have 29500 miles on it. I should not be having major problems with so few miles on the car.
