2 Suspension Noise problem of the 2004 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

I was driving my car when I started hearing noises and the car started steering to the right. When I got my car home , I discovered that the front suspension cross member subframe had come loose because the bolts had completely rusted out and the cross member had rusted. I discovered that my vehicle had a recall #xg350 in July 2009. I purchased my Hyundai in the fall of 2009, but did not receive any recall notice. Is my Hyundai still eligible for recall repair? we like our Hyundai and it has been one of the best cars we have owned. The body and motor are still in good shape. What do I do next?.

While parked at the airport for 2 weeks, the right front suspension coil broke. I noticed the problem when I attempted to leave the parking lot and heard a horrendous metal scraping noise. Upon stopping the car and inspecting, I could see the coil spring hanging down. It scraped up the sidewall of the tire in just the short time to drive across the parking lot to where there was more light.

6 Suspension Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/25/2019

Took my car into jim click Hyundai dealer. . Fixed rack and pinion covered under recall and they said they test drove, and found no issues regarding a bad ride on the road. . I am beginning to think they are lying and haven't checked a full suspension check and may not have done a through test drive. . It should ride nice instead of a bad ride with bumping and thumping sounds under the car. . This isn't the first time a dealership mechanic technician couldn't find anything wrong when there clearly is!!!.

Car has been good vehicle for 64000,miles. Have been complaining of noise in right front suspension for some time, after coming in off highway from high speed driving, numerous curvy roads. Went to pull into parking lot, right front spring broke and torn tire sidewall out, sent car crashing on ground. Vehicle taken to dealer, where initially told out of warranty. (do have aftermarket that would have covered with deductible. Told them they needed to talk to Hyundai, see if factory would covere. Good news factory will take care of repair. Vehicle now sets at dealership with no known date for parts. Think they may have problem??????. Second customers car sits next to mine. At highway speeds, this will get someone hurt. They need to recall these vehicles.

11 Suspension Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/30/2018

While purchasing new tires, it was determined that the left front spring on my daughter's 2013 Hyundai Sonata (only 43,000 miles) was broken. Driving under this condition could have caused loss of control and a serious accident if the spring had moved and punctured the tire. My daughter said she occasionally would hear a rattle at the front wheel-well while driving prior to the break being identified. I drove the car and found the rattling noise to be continuous on small road defects/bumps on the way to the repair shop. Suspension springs should normally last the life of the car. The car was at the shop for four days awaiting a Hyundai dealer to get the part back in stock, forcing my daughter to get a rental car. The replacement Hyundai part number is 54630 3q114. A limited recall was issued several years ago for 2011 Sonata's with the identical problem. A google search shows that numerous other Sonata owners have experienced this exact problem since that recall but so far it has not been expanded. The problem is apparently more prevalent in northern climates where salt is used for snow/ice removal causing corrosion in the springs. Hyundai needs to come up with a permanent fix for this problem and issue an expanded recall for all Sonata's.

12 Suspension Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

I was driving at low speed 20-25mph on a city street when I heard some odd noise coming from my passenger side wheel. I went over a little bump and there was a loud clink of something braking off and hitting the bottom of my car. I was able to pull into a parking lot. I found my car to be slanted toward the passenger side. I looked on the street and found the bottom ring of the suspension coil. I looked online and found there was a recall on this part in the "salt belt states" so I called Hyundai. Hyundai told me my car wasn't under the recall because it was made at a different factory. It's very concerning to me the number of others who have been in the same situation as mine. The potential for serious harm to myself, passengers and anyone else on the road was very high. How many people have to experience this for the part at the factory my car was assembled to be recalled? also, now the concern for the same thing to happen on the driver's side as well. I hope this issue is addressed and fixed!.

13 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle was towed to autofair Hyundai (1477 s willow st, manchester, nh 03103, (603) 634-0635) where it was diagnosed that the crossmember detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v354000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 247,000.

14 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

There have been various problems that were discovered recently mostly based on the rear suspension and shocks. The brake lights have gone out many times and the alignment is frequently incorrect, and so the tires go through a lot of wear. The most recent tires were placed 9 months ago and already have terrible wear from both the suspension and the alignment. Whenever the car is in motion, the car does not drive as smoothly as it should and bounces lightly. There is loud noise whenever driving over speed bumps as if the tire pressure is poor. There is also a grinding noise when the car turns somewhat sharply. Many of these problems have existed for a while but were only diagnosed today at a midas auto in wilmington, nc.

17 Suspension Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

Coil springs. We live in a cold climate state and our concerned that our coil springs might be defective or corroded like the spring problems in the 2011 Sonata models. We own the 2013 se Sonata model which one would think has a better suspension than the standard model, apparently that is not the case. After a flat tire on a paved county highway (car in motion at 45mph) on March 6, 2017 we found out that both front springs had to be replaced after normal driving (70k mileage). Dealership told us passenger front spring breaking likely caused our flat tire and once in the shop, they discovered other spring was cracked and needed to be replaced as well. We had not encountered any major road hazards when the flat tire occurred. Car was more noisy after last service at dealership December 27, 2016. Service included oil change, tire rotation and a required under body corrosion treatment. Our ride sounded more noisy like when snow tires are placed on a vehicle, dealership and myself thought it was just from the recent tire rotation, but the noise lasted until the flat tire incident which occurred with a rumble like sound from the tire area and a sudden loss of air noise from the tire area, it sounded like releasing air from an air hose. Dealer rep mentioned he's seen thousands of repairs, but only a few spring problems with Sonatas and only 1 other time it involved a Sonata with 2 broken coil springs and in that case a driver went over very severe, rough railroad tracks when the springs failed, we never encountered a "bottoming out" nor any hazardous road conditions prior to the springs failing.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that they could not be of any assistance due to the VIN not being included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 10v070000(latches/locks/linkages) and 15v629000 (suspension). The contact was informed that NHTSA had issued out the recalls and they were regulated by the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

I notice that there is a recall on Hyundai Sonata's from 2006 -2010 in regards to rust concerns with rear suspension. This was just detected by my mechanic that the attaching point for the control arm has rusted and became separated from the crossmember. The result and my immediate concern was the sudden change in vehicle handling, a loud noise coming from the rear tire when I hit a small bump. I was wondering why the 2005 Sonata isn't covered in this recall?.

30 Suspension Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

My wife and I bought a brand new 2011 Hyundai Sonata in late 2010. We have had several recalls but none of them have been related to a steering and suspension problem we have been experiencing. A vibration seems to be coming from the right side and the steering wheel makes a popping noise when rocking it back and forth. There is an increased vibration/shaking at 70 mph or higher speeds in the steering/suspension without much vibration in the steering wheel and it is getting worse.

31 Suspension Noise problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

While driving my 2000 Hyundai Sonata on good road and approaching a traffic light in the left through-lane of a multilane street, I made a quick stop (not and emergency stop) when the light turned yellow. The road was in good condition and dry, and the outside temperature was about about 80 degrees f. Upon making this stop the car pulled unusually sharply to the right - if there had been a car in the right lane, I would have hit it. After this stop, the front tire(s) made unusual squeeling noises upon turning, and the steering felt unusual and shakey. I drove the car directly (about a mile) to the place we were visiting in las vegas and the next morning took the car directly to a Hyundai dealer. Upon inspection the dealer found that the front suspension frame crossmember (front subframe) had a corrosion hole through the front subbframe and the front subframe had failed, causing the right front (passenger) tire to move out of position and sitting at an angle. The dealer's advice was that this was a safety problem, and it could further fail and result in loss of steering control. They advised that I do not drive the car until this this front subframe was replaced. This is a replaceable piece - which was ordered, and replacement planned. The car was left with the Hyundai dealer, and not driven further. This situation is essentially identical to NHTSA reference number 13v354000 for the real suspension for some Hyundai vehicles that led to Hyundai recall campaign 113 approved in sept 2013. Hyundai records show this car was purchased in illinois (one of the approved 113-recall states) and it was driven there for about 4 years or so. I am the second owner. Hyundai has issued technical service bulletin campaign number 12-01-029 dated October 2012 (supersedes bulletin 09-01-020-2) which addresses this front subframe problem, but, I am told, it is not an approved recall.

32 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/14/2013

While driving home from the grocery store, my esc light came on. Had trouble steering the car and there was a squealing noise coming from the back end. I was informed by my mechanic that the problem is that the rear axle housing is cracked/rusted and that the wheel is crooked. The car is currently undriveable. I had read in the paper about rust causing problems with the rear suspension control arms and believe that I am experiencing the same problem. I contacted the Hyundai dealership where the car was purchased to see if this would be covered under the 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty (car has approx. 80,000 miles on it), but was told that they weren't sure. I have an appointment scheduled for repair, but will not be able to have it done, unless it is covered.

35 Suspension Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

One month after purchasing a new 2012 Hyundai Sonata, I noticed a creaking noise coming from rear suspension/sub-frame area when the entering an inclined driveway or non-uniform roadway. This started at around the 700-mile mark on my vehicle odometer. This issue was reported to Hyundai north America corporate approximately 3-months ago, in August 2012. The local dealership I visited in my area has acknowledged the noise exists, but has dismissed it as "normal body creak flex, Sonatas make this noise. " I pushed the issue to Hyundai north America corporate and they had originally agreed to have the district parts and service manager examine the vehicle to diagnose the problem. Currently, Hyundai north America corporate has just informed me the local dealership doesn't want to look at my vehicle anymore and to consider bringing my vehicle to another dealer. Additionally, they are now stating that they had no knowledge of ever making an appointment with district parts and service manager. I have been waiting 3-months to meet the district parts and service manager, and the response from Hyundai north America corporate up until now is to be patient and wait to be contacted with an appointment date. The vehicle still makes this noise with no resolution. I am concerned that there is metal to metal contact, and in the long-term future, corrosion or fatigue could occur with the suspect components. Numerous cases of this noise have been documented on Hyundai internet forums, but Hyundai north America has not acknowledged there is an issue.
