The vehicle: "I have a 2011–2014 Hyundai Sonata with massive underbody rust. " the failed fix: "service campaign 946 was completed on this car in 2017, but it did not work. The rust is now worse. " the safety risk: "the structural metal is so rusty that I am afraid it will snap while I am driving. This makes the car unsafe. " Hyundai is refusing to fix it because the car has a 'branded' (abandoned) title, even though the structural safety issue is still there. ".

Noticed there’s a crack on the passenger side dashboard of the car that’s about 12 inches long. From what I read this could cause issues with any possible airbag deployment.

The vehicle’s sunroof just flew off the car at 31 miles per hour (the whole part), Hyundai had a safety recall for that and it was done in the past, the problem is that happened exactly what the recall were suppose to prevent, it was my wife and 2 kids on my car and I’m glad it was before she enter the highway, it would cause a major wreck with multiple vehicles. The car behind her had a dash cam and recorded the event, I’ll upload for better understanding. I’m also posting it on the social media to get publicity on the event.

I own a 2020 Hyundai Sonata with factory-applied paint. The vehicle developed paint peeling/clear-coat failure on the driver-side rear quarter panel without any prior damage, accident, or repainting. The paint began separating from the body, exposing the underlying surface. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer. The dealer acknowledged a paint adhesion failure and submitted the issue to Hyundai. Hyundai declined to fully cover the repair, stating the model year was not included in their paint warranty extension, even though similar peeling paint defects have been acknowledged and covered by Hyundai on earlier Sonata model years. The dealer ultimately repainted both rear panels due to the nature of the failure, but Hyundai required me to pay approximately 20% of the repair cost as a goodwill arrangement. I was not offered a full repaint or full reimbursement. I have also observed early signs of potential paint adhesion issues around the rear window frame, raising concern that the defect may progress to other areas of the vehicle. This appears to be a manufacturing paint adhesion defect rather than normal wear, and similar issues have been widely reported on Hyundai vehicles. I am reporting this issue to document a recurring paint adhesion defect on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata and to assist in identifying a potential pattern affecting additional vehicles.

The paint started peeling off in large sections.
The right-rear passenger door will not open from either the inside or outside of the car. This happened suddenly with no warning. It was instantaneous. I went to go pick my toddler from daycare and when we were returning to the car, the right-rear passenger door will not open after unlocking the car with my key fob. All the other doors (3) could be opened with the key fob or without the key fob from inside the car. I tried to open the right-rear paasenger door from the inside and it still will not open. Additionally, you can hear the locking system on the door moving when locking and unlocking the car with the key fob but the door simply won't open. This is a safety issue because it hinders my ability to quickly get to my toddler in case of an emergency.

I was drying my car after washing it(I only use products approved for washing and drying vehicles) when a piece of paint on the hood just peeled off. It has not been wrecked or damaged in any way on the hood so I feel it must be a defective paint job from the factory.

1. Sunroof frame detached from car due to defective adhesive. (antena tailfin also detached from car years earlier because of defective adhesive). Because of this the frame was bent causing the sunroof to disengage from car . 2. Sunroof disengaging while on interstate could have causes an accident or harmed person in car. A recall was placed on 2016 Hyundai Sonatas due to sunroof. 3. Unknown 4. Hyundai hired an engineering firm. The firm ( which was paid by Hyundai) found in favor of Hyundai. 5. Unknown.
Nhtsa campaign id number: 09v124000 NHTSA action number: ea08016 recall calls for repair or replacement of front sub-frame, due to corrosion. Local dealer responded, “ . . . We will not be able to perform recall”. I was told the corrosion was too far gone to repair. They refuse to replace the defective part.

In early may 2025 while driving around 40mph, I heard a very loud pop which startled me. Pulled over and looked back and noticed my backseats were push up out of place. I attempted to put the seat back into place but it wouldn’t fit into the latch anymore. The framing underneath the seats looked pretty damaged so I took it to a local mechanic. After doing some research, he found information for a check valve/fuel tank recall (service campaign 9b1) and then advised me to go a Hyundai dealership. I attempted to take it to the dealership, whom sent me away after I advised them of what happened. I came back the next day asking them to take a look at while informing them about the recall that could be related. Later that evening, they called and said the issue was directly related to the recall and the repairs would be covered. My car was in their possession for from 5. 12. 25 to 7. 25. 25 without any updates or instructions on what is happening. I was told they’re waiting to hear back from Hyundai manufacturer on how to proceed. They returned my car to me on 7. 25. 25 stating everything was repaired. On 7. 31. 25 they called me back stating my tank needs to be replaced and bring the car back ASAP. My car was again being repaired and was returned to me on 8. 25. 25. Now my vehicle will not start randomly sometimes. At this point, I’m under the impression my vehicle is no longer safe as all the issues I’ve been facing are fuel related.
Hood latch won’t latch and hood opens while driving.
I’m reporting a serious safety issue with my 2024 Hyundai Sonata. After a routine service at koons Hyundai of woodbridge in late February, the under-engine splash shield detached and dragged under the vehicle while I was driving on the highway. Upon inspection, it was clear that the splash shield was not secured with any screws or clips — it was either improperly installed during service or never fastened at all. This caused the shield to flap violently at high speeds before tearing off entirely. It posed a serious hazard to me and other drivers on the road. When I brought the issue to the dealership, they refused responsibility, falsely claimed it was caused by scratches (despite no such damage before the failure), and told me and my wife that we are no longer welcome for service. A part like this should never fall off a new vehicle, especially after a recent service. This could have caused a major accident if it hit another vehicle or interfered with my driving. I am requesting NHTSA to review this case for possible service negligence or manufacturing defect, and ensure future safety.

On Friday, April 18, I opened my panoramic sunroof on my car. When I did, the wind deflector became detached from the sunroof mechanism. So I attempted to close the sunroof and when I did, the would not close all the way and the sunroof appeared to become off track. No the roof will not close all the way leaving it popped open about an inch. I called a couple of Hyundai dealers and they both said that there was an extended warranty provided by Hyundai. Based on my car’s original purchase date, I am out of warranty by 6 weeks on time but under the mileage of 120,000 mileage limit. . I have read that this has caused the glass portion of the sunroof to blow out of the car because it won’t close all the way. I believe that this poses a threat not only to me and my passengers as well as possibly someone riding behind me me getting hit because the sunroof came loose and hitting them as well.
Service campaign 9b1 that my gas tank has explanded/exploded due to the issue noted in the subject line. As you can see the whole bottom of the backseats have been raised up imcluding the part that connects to the gas tank itself. My car is immobilized and not drivable during this time. What is the next step to take?.
While driving under normal highway conditions, the sunroof detached from the vehicle while still in the closed position. This caused extreme danger to other drivers and property and could have caused a fatality if it would have hit a motorcyclist or other unprotected person. There was a recall for this (recall campaign 152: 2015-2016 Sonata panoramic sunroof) and the vehicle was delivered to the dealer during the recall period for inspection and presumed fix. There was no warning that anything was wrong previous to the incident.
After driving for a few minutes with the sunroof open the wind deflector pulled and nearly off the car. This had been repaired previously under a recall and the repair was simply to re-glue the wind deflector back in place. This had clearly been done before as the dried glue was still on it. The back end of the sunroof nearly came off during this ordeal while we were traveling at highway speeds and it could have killed someone. We were able to close the sunroof once we had stopped, however it was very difficult to do so and required four of us, each with tools that I happened to have in the car at the time. Had we not been able to get the sunroof back closed it surely would have been ripped from the car. Another recall needs to be put into place and an improved correction needs to be put into place.

On 03/14 I was driving down the road the with the sunroof open the wind flap suddenly went to flying making a loud sound I pulled over and saw that it was loose and hanging I went to press the button to attempt to close it and it semi closed. I went and had it looked at and was told that it was broken and could not be closed and needed to be replaced I was told it was a common issue with Hyundais and to contact the company.
The left rear door won't open from the inside or from outside. The door just suddenly stopped working without any warning or without any damage to the door, or to the key fob. I use it to transport an elderly person or sometimes my grand kids, it is dangerous especially if someone has to exit the car immediately.
I took my car in for a standard oil change and tune up. They found out that the fuel tank had expanded to the point where it caused significant damage to the metal frame. The Hyundai dealership sent it to the local body shop for an estimate for the frame, they sent it back because the dealership hadn't removed the gas tank, then the dealership sent it back to the body shop. It's been 3+ weeks, my car is still in the shop, and I haven't received any indication of whether my car is able to be fixed. The dashboard never displayed any warning messages and there were no symptoms of the problem. I had no idea the gas tank had expanded and could've caused an explosion or fire.
Sunroof exploded on the highway with no one in-front of me to kick up any rocks or debris.

About a year ago, I went out one morning, and the rear passenger door would not engage or open. I tried using the key fob, as well as manual lock, trying to lock and unlock, and it still would not open. No one can get into the car from the outside. No one can get out of the car from the inside. This especially is very dangerous. Nothing has changed. I would like Hyundai to repair my door, since it is inoperable. In case of accident, fire, or other reason, someone would be locked in to their detriment.

Unknown I pulled up to a gas station filled up my car coming back frome work like usual I finish I take off not even 1 mile and it started lacking the batteries got drained and it turned off I try to turn it back on and all it does is give me a message telling me to check charging system.
Hyundai motor America (hma) denied my engine replacement claim (PA# [xxx]) under their extended warranty program, specifically campaign txxi. This claim involves my 2016 Hyundai Sonata se 2. 4 , VIN # [xxx] , which exhibits all the symptoms and engine damage outlined in the campaign, yet my request for a free engine replacement has been unjustly denied. Campaign txxi, as explained in the technical service bulletin issued by Hyundai, extends the engine warranty applicable to 2015-2019 model year Sonata (lf) vehicles equipped with theta ii 2. 0l turbo and 2. 4l gdi engines. This warranty covers engine long block repair or replacement due to engine damage or malfunction from connecting rod bearing wear and extends to a limited lifetime warranty, valid for both original and subsequent owners. O on or about [xxx], my vehicle exhibited a blinking check engine light on the dash, entered into limp mode, and a knocking noise was coming from the engine. O as I was driving the vehicle to the Hyundai of north miami service center on [xxx] (21400 NW 2nd av. , miami, FL 33169) for inspection, the engine locked up and stop, necessitating a call to a towing truck company to complete the trip. O upon inspection, the service center identified significant engine damage, including, engine mechanical failure unable to turn on, and recommended that the vehicle require a new engine replacement. O these findings align with the engine damage described under campaign txxi. O despite meeting the campaign criteria, hma denied my claim (PA#xxx) for an engine replacement on 11/22/2024. O hma based its denial to my claim on the review of engine pictures and my inability to provide evidence supporting oil maintenance intervals between 35k- 68k miles, 78k-99k miles, and 142k-163k miles. Hma cited these maintenance gaps as the basis for suspecting engine neglect, some indications of sludge found on the engine, as the reason for the engine failure and subsequent locking. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C.
The car's paint is peeling all over. The roof was repainted in 2018, the hood and side door in 2024 and now the the roof supports on each side and trunk are peeling . While driving a big piece of white paint flew to my windshield blocking the driver's view. It stuck under the wipers when used to remove it. Hyundai is aware and has recalled the paint but delays fix and then fixes in tiny areas so that you have to continue coming back for repainting. Now they do not want to pay for repairs stating the recall expired. It expired because of their delay and not painting the entire car. Hyundai should paint the entire car when there is a paint defect.
The passenger rear door will not open from the inside or the outside. The door lock on the inside of the car will not open. Door is in locked position. Problems like this are all over the internet regarding Hyundai cars. This is a safety issue because someone in the back seat can not open the door and are potentially locked inside the car with no way out. This could be life and death if there was a fire, accident, etc. Independent repair center has inspected and confirms. No warning lights. Just happened in September 2024.
Fault code in the automatic braking system c24020 c17410 white body paint bubbling and peeling off the car for no reason. Passenger door roof frame and trunk. Hood previously repaired.
I am writing to file a formal complaint against Hyundai motor America regarding a significant defect in the paint quality of my 2018 Hyundai vehicle and the company's lack of response to my attempts to resolve this issue. I am the owner of a 2018 Hyundai [model], which I purchased from priority Hyundai in Dec 2017. Over the past few months, the paint on my white Hyundai has started to peel significantly, despite regular maintenance and care. This issue has not only affected the aesthetic appeal of my vehicle but also its potential resale value. I first reported this issue to have subsequently made multiple attempts to contact Hyundai’s customer service department directly. Despite these efforts, I have received no response or acknowledgment from Hyundai regarding my concerns. This lack of communication and failure to address the defect is unacceptable and does not align with the standards expected from a reputable automobile manufacturer. The paint peeling problem is not an isolated incident, as many other owners of 2018 Hyundai white vehicles have reported similar issues. This suggests a potential defect in the paint application process or materials used, which should be addressed under the vehicle’s warranty or through a manufacturer recall. My specific complaints are as follows: 1. Hyundai has failed to acknowledge or respond to my multiple attempts to contact them about the paint peeling issue. 2. Hyundai has not offered any solution or repair for the defective paint, which is clearly a manufacturing issue. 3. The lack of customer service and support from Hyundai in handling this complaint is highly disappointing. 1. Acknowledge receipt of my complaint and provide an explanation for the delay in response. 2. Arrange for an inspection of my vehicle and offer a comprehensive solution to the paint peeling issue, which may include repainting the affected areas or other appropriate measures. 3. Improve their customer service procedures to ensure that such complaints.
Rear driver side door cannot be opened from the inside or the outside of the vehicle.
My passenger side rear door will not open from the outside or the inside. You pull the handle on the outside and nothing happens. You push the door from the inside and nothing even budges (the door lock still works not that there's a use for it right now). This seems to me to be a safety risk for anyone that has to sit in the backseat behind the front passenger seat. If there were an emergency, they would not be able to open the door to get out. I have googled this and it seems to happen quite frequently in Hyundai cars. It's the door actuator. If this happens a lot, then I think Hyundai needs to take a deeper look into their door actuators. Thank goodness I do not have kids in a car seat because I would be unable to get them in or out on that side of the car. I've never had this happen on any of the toyotas I've owned.
Driver side bumper does not sit flush with driver side fender. It popped out between top edge of bumper and fender. . . Many compliments on social media. . . . . Hyundai needs to fix these cars. The bumper retention.
I was on my way back home from alexandria la on June 25 2024 when I heard like the sound of an blow out tiire but wasn’t happen to look in back of car and seen back seat was blown off the area of the car and proceeded to see that the gas tank was expanded like you would see a balloon and the me car started running funny and. Then a service code comes across the screen of the radio po45100 , so I pull over and look beneath the car and see that the gas tank is so expanded it’s now pressing against the exhaust pipe. So I turned car off and here we are now I’m without a car due to this.
