The vehicle, after parking, is nonresponsive to the key fob, nor will it start. This can happen at anytime and anywhere. Dealer said "it is possible the integrated 12v battery into the hybrid battery may be faulty. No codes or tests can confirm the issue. The dealer said the key fobs tested ok. " my wife works late at night in a dark area, this has happened 2 times at her place of work and we are concerned for her safety as she has to wait outside for a tow truck to tow it to the dealer. The first 3 times it occured, this issue started around March of 2024, and repeated every 30-45 days. Now it has happened 2 more times in the last week. No warning lamps or indications of problems. The windshield has distortion within the glass and is not a clear view. It is as though you are looking through the heat of a jet engine trying to focus on what is on the other side. This is a major distraction while driving, reading the heads up display in the car, reading street signs and general navigation of pedestrian and other vehicle traffic. There is no aftermarket film or materials on the windshield. The door handle on the drivers side has a cover plate over the hole where a manual key could be inserted. As a construction worker I have very strong hands and I have a difficult time removing the cover plate. The last time I removed the plate I cut my hand on the interior part of the handle as the cover plate popped off. That is how hard the plate is to remove. My wife cannot remove the cover plate on her own. This system is in place for the manual use of the hidden key inside the key fob to be able to open the door in the event of a power failure of the vehicle. Which has now happened randomly 5 times.

Paint bubbled, flaked off on the hood. There’s evidence that another patch is ready to come off. Hyundai has dealt with this issue before.
Vehicle sat in driveway for one week while on cruise. The day of return the Sonata caught on fire without any person touching the car for one week. Brother who’s house it was at was woken by neighbors at 7sm. Home had minor damage, but it could of been bad if it was in someone’s garage. Fire started in engine and console. Fire department could not find out a reason. Car was totaled. Had to rent a car to get home that was 2 hours away. Never had an issue with this vehicle in the 12 years I owned it.

My car was recalled because of the paint chipping. I had it fixed however it is still chipping in more spots. I'd like it fixed considering I have paid over $27,000 and still owe $12,000 more. It would be nice to still have a decent car after I finally pay it off. I'd appreciate the help.

The interior and exterior driver side door and driver side rear door handles are no longer functional on this vehicle. This is a well known problem with these vehicles that poses a grave safety hazard. In the event of a fire or accident, it would be impossible to exit or gain access to my vehicle without breaking the side glass. I have spoken to my Hyundai dealer and they agreed that it is a known, dangerous problem, however no TSB or recall has been issued. My only recourse is to pay to have this defect repaired. This is the first vehicle I have ever owned that has had this type of issue.

The paint if pealing off in large sections due to a manufacturer defect in the primer. The flakes can fly onto the windshields of other vehicles causing collisions.

The paint of my 2019 pearl white Sonata is peeling off on the hood. I see that there was an extended warranty extension on the same car of 2017 and 2018. I would like to know why not including 2019 of the same color on the same car.
I own a 2016 Hyundai Sonata and on vacation in florida the cap to the shark finn antenna flew off on the highway. I noted there are recalls on newer versions of the Sonata but not on the 2016. I feel that is a problem that Hyundai should address as it is a safety hazard and could cause an accident resulting in injuries. Also the cost to replace the antenna is almost 500 dollar as they do not just sell the cover for the antenna. Thank you for any help you can provide in addressing this issue as I do not want anyone to get hurt because of this faulty problem with the antenna cover.

I took my car to the mechanic for a “once over” before driving from new jersey to north carolina. This car has only 41,000 original miles on it as we bought it new in 2005. Upon inspection, the mechanic came back with certain repairs that are needed due to age; but he was extremely concerned about a severe safety issue that the subframe had rotted out and needed to be replaced. This is a known corrosion issue with other years of manufacture for this model. There was a class action suit for this specific issue for 1999 to 2004 Sonatas. The subframe threatens to collapse from rust at any time and is an extreme hazard to the driver, passengers, and others on the road. There was absolutely no warning of this issue prior to this inspection, making it even more dangerous as it affects many drivers who are unaware of the issue.

The white pearl paint is bubbling and peeling right above the driver door window. It's getting worse by the day. While driving with my window open a piece about the size of a nickel flew into my car and hit me on the face right under my eye. If it had flew into my eye I surely would have had an accident. Took car to delray Hyundai on August 3,2023 for pictures and was lead to believe it would be taken care of. I'm getting the run around from them. I have read many many articles on the internet about this problem, can you help me or assist me in what I can do to get this taken care of. Thanking you in advance for your help.
The back doors will no longer open when unlocked. This poses a safety risk. I was unable to get my child out of his car seat when the locks or locking mechanism went out. I had to climb into the back seat from the front. The door do not open either from the interior or exterior of the vehicle. A mechanic stated that this could be from faulty solenoids. I was unable to get a print out of a quote at the time of writing this.

My 2023 Hyundai Sonata limited has an issue where water enters the rear left door and gets trapped between the lower door seals. Water pours out when the door is opened. A google review of "sonata rear door leak" shows this is a wide spread issue with this door and car model. If this were to occur in a northern climate the door would have ice collect between the door and door sill and prevent the door from opening in an emergency. Google shows numerous people have tried to get this addressed . Most with no success from Hyundai. I had taken my car to coconut creek Hyundai in coconut creek florida in Aug 2023 and was told "this condition is common to the model". No fix attempted. I escalated to Hyundai USA, and they literally stated they cannot superceed the dealer and to take the car elsewhere. They ignore the door issue and also stated on recorded call ( their recording) that this condition is common to the model. I fear the first accident that the door cannot be opened due to internal ice collection. Please just google "sonata water in doors" to see how common this is!.

My 2016 Hyundai Sonata (pearl white) paint is peeling in many parts of my car. I went to delray Hyundai where I purchased it in 2019. In August of 2023 I showed a supervisor and she set up an appointment for me to bring in the car for pictures. After delray Hyundai took pictures I waited and waited to hear from them. I went to the dealership and spoke to the supervisor I was dealing with and she keep giving me excuses why they couldn't do it at that time, she keep telling me they didn't have a loaner car for me, to call or come back. I was frustrated but felt like they were going to take care of the problem. Her name was piper. Finally after many months I was told they wouldn't do anything for me, and I was told by a worker to try coconut creek dealer because they have a paint dept. Well I'm [xxx] old and by myself and I cannot get there. It's very far away and I would have to travel [xxx]. I asked if they would bring the car there for me and was told no. I called coconut creek Hyundai and they told me no they couldn't help me. I love my car and always got compliments on it but it's peeling so bad that it looks awful and I would never get the true value if I traded it in because of the failed paint. I have read and seen pictures of many other people on the internet that have the same problem. Can you please help me. Now it's more than the one side the other side of the car is peeling thanks information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with a panoramic sunroof. About 2 weeks ago we opened the sunroof and noticed the wind deflector popped up higher than normal. When we tried to close the sunroof it would not close. The deflector was sticking up and we had to push it down quickly to avoid punching our hands in the sunroof. It still did not want to close after we tried, but the sunroof was down almost all the way. We called Hyundai the same day to get it looked at. We thought maybe it broke something in the process of closing because it didn't look closed 100%. They could not get us in until mid August. We were not too concerned because the sunroof was mostly closed down so rain could not get in. Today driving about 50 mph the sunroof just flew off the car and shattered into a million pieces in full traffic. Someone could have been seriously injured!! there was absolutely no indication that the sunroof was not secure on our vehicle otherwise we would not have drove it.

Severely rusted out and corroded front subframe, only noticed it on accident very recently, and my car is the last year of a generation that was recalled for this very issue within the salt belt- I live right at the bottom outskirts of the salt belt in nky, and my car is the only year not recalled for subframe corrosion. It's bad and I'm freaked out and can't afford it unless I figure out how to do it myself without prematurely dying due to a dropped engine or something similar (premature because if I don't get it fixed soon I reckon that fate isn't too far off).
I was driving down the highway with my mom, no cracks in any of my windows before any of this by the way. And my sunroof exploded. Huge huge explosion sound. I thought something fell but there was nothing above us.
Paint code ww8. Paint peeling from trunk and other areas of car. Have also seen numerous Hyundai and kias around jacksonville, FL with the same and often severe paint peel. Needs recall and Hyundai to fix.
The exterior paint of my white 2019 Hyundai Sonata has been peeling continuously in different places since 2023 when I bought it. The Hyundai dealer is aware of this problem but refuses to recall or give compensation for this problem.
Exterior paint is peeling and stripping. Hood, doors, front and rear bumper, side skirts, and front lip.

I am reporting multiple safety-related problems with my 2016 Hyundai Sonata sport 2. 0 that have become progressively worse and may pose a serious danger. The electronic stability control (esc) warning light starts blinking during startup, then remains solidly illuminated while driving. This indicates a persistent fault in the stability system. The car also frequently slows down or brakes on its own, without any input from me. This happens especially right after starting the car or while driving in traffic, and has caused multiple near-accidents. These issues first appeared around two years ago, but they used to happen occasionally. Over time, they have become more frequent, and now they occur daily. There is also a grinding or dragging noise when the vehicle starts or moves at low speed, and it often hesitates when trying to accelerate. These symptoms create uncertainty and make the vehicle feel unsafe to operate. Inside the car, the dashboard has severely cracked, with deep, wide splits across the top panel. I’m concerned this could interfere with airbag deployment or reflect light dangerously while driving. On the outside, the paint is peeling off in large chunks, and I’ve noticed the same problem on other Sonatas of this model. This suggests a wider manufacturing issue and raises concerns about long-term durability and corrosion. These problems have not been confirmed by a mechanic yet, but they are consistent, worsening, and clearly pose a safety risk. I have recorded a video that shows the esc warning and the sound it makes, which I am including for reference. Video evidence of esc malfunction and mechanical noise: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Unknown I’ve had to replace the knock sensor twice in my vehicle in less than 2 months, my paint on my car is also peeling off really bad.
The paint on my 2016 Hyundai continues to peel. I have gone to get the vehicle repainted to no avail. The roof paint came off again and even bigger than the original peel. This is absolutely ridiculous, I see my extract same car on the road with the extract same problems. Not to mention the oil consumption. Across the board these vehicles have all the same issues. No one should have to keep paying out of pocket for a manufacturing issue and no wrong doing of their own. This is Hyundai’s wrong doing and they need to be held accountable for manufacturing such a cheap car. At some point all of my paint is going to come off, I should not have to pay yet for another repainting. I will continue to file complaints, and escalate even further if needed. Someone needs to call me back with a solution regarding this matter.
The paint has been chipping from the hood and top.
White paint flaking off hood roof and trunk areas to bare metal. It gets worse when car is washed.
Car has 41,019 miles. The paint is peeling off the car. This issue seems to be widespread and effects both kia & Hyundai. Mine 1st appeared Jan. 31, 2023 on the driver's side hood above the headlight. Paint color is w8, quartz white pearl (this color seems to have the most problems). Hyundai was notified immediately, 02-01-2023, but have gotten no response. There is a facebook page concerning the issue (kia and Hyundai defective paint class action group) and you can see how widespread the problem is. The paint is obviously defective or Hyundai did something wrong in applying it. This simply is not a coincidence and Hyundai should be accountable!.
As I was driving down the road I heard what sounded like a gunshot and glass shattering. Upon getting to my destination I found that my panoramic sunroof had shattered outward.
Peeling / chipping paint.
My rear drivers side door will not open. I cannot get my grandson out of his car seat without walking to the passenger side of the car. If there was an accident, first responders would not be able to reach anyone in the backseat behind the driver's seat. This is a common problem with this make/model vehicle. I asked the dealer to try to open it for me, but wouldn't even look at it for without a $185 charge. No one else has inspected the vehicle. There were no warnings, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
Ever since I have had my car there has been a wind sound like some this is dragging under my car! been to dealership multiple times and they tell me that’s how these cars sound! now oil is disappearing right after and oil change! they say my oil pan bolts were stripped out! well the Hyundai dealership is the only people that have done my oil changes! tried to charge me for that! I get an engine diagnosis check done and they tell me nothing is wrong with my car! before I could make it home engine light was on! took it back now they saying engine manifold! want to charge me for that! now car won’t go over 20 mph! white car paint has chipped from the front roof and hood of car! driving I see multiple white vehicles with paint chipped in the same areas of the vehicle! call corporate they know about the the issue. They want to spot paint the car! if you spot paint it doesn’t fix the growing areas of peel up! there is no reason a 2017 and newer models should have huge metal spots for paint peeling already! only on white Hyundai Sonatas mainly! I have called corporate about every issue with my car and they seem to not care!.
My vehicle is trending in theft, car was leased to me from napelton in lansing IL sept 2022. The first attempt of theft/break in uic area Dec 10, second attempt in west chicago area Jan 29. Both times I just cried and shut down. With having to contact the police awaiting the report process in middle of chicago winter left me cold and in terrible distress! this is a new vehicle for me which ultimately has caused me so much stress, anxiety, and frustration. I tried to trade it in but because of this nationwide issue that I was not aware of until the first incident! still the theft numbers continue to rise! I am being told my cars value has depreciated from 25k to 15k which is not fair, and if I abandon this vehicle it will fall hard in my credit and ruin my chances moving forward with another vehicle!! with no where to turn and in dyer need of a reliable vehicle as I work and university student, having to constantly repair the windows after random theft attempts is a major safety hazard and for concerns of what can happen in a worst case scenario. I really need this issue to be addressed so that I can freely live my everyday life and not worry if I am leaving class or work that my car will not be there, or if my windows will be busted. I hope reaching out can help me get this vehicle traded in at a fair value!.
