2013 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle bumper issues. The consumer stated in March 2014, the bumper fender skirt and inner fender well dropped to the ground while driving on a well maintained road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they stated a plastic bag may have wrapped around the bumper, and pulled it down, but there was no defect. The consumer took the vehicle to a body shop, where they informed her the design was not very good, as plastic parts were used. The second incident happened on may 12th. As the consumer was driving, the right front end dropped again. The consumer returned to the auto body shop, where they fixed it again.

I took the car in for a recall on the OCS and the dealer found two fault codes b1701 and b1706 indicating that both passenger and drivers side belt pretensioners resistance is too high. I see there are many 2006 and 2007 Sonatas with a similar issue. With the number of repeated complaints I think there should be a safety recall or some reimbursement for repairs !!!!!!!!!!!!.

I brought my car in for routine service where I alerted the service rep to an issue with my dashboard. For over a year I had noticed an area of 'slickness" on my dash . As the summer went on, this area now appears to be melting! I was told that the area was there based on :something " that I had done & had subsequently tried to fix it! needless to say , I was fit to be tied!! how do you accuse someone of something when you do not have the facts? I was told by numerous service people as well as management that this was something that was never seen before! does not one need to conduct an investigation into the matter as opposed to it is your problem -not ours? it is clearly a defect & I want the dashboard replaced!!.

I own a 1999 Hyundai Sonata and was informed by my mechanic that the front sub frame on the passenger side is rusting through, presenting a severe safety risk to the driver and passengers. There is currently a manufacturer¿s recall showing for the 2001-2004 model from your investigation. Shouldn't the 1999 be included due to it having many complaints due to this corrosion issue. The vehicle was purchased in maryland and owned in virginia for a period of time. It also has been in out of virginia for the last ten years where salt is applied to roadways likely contributing this problem. The vehicle is currently registered in north carolina and the local Hyundai dealership refuses to make the repair.

The chrome on the interior door handle of driver side exhibited a crack and separated. My wife cut her finger on the cracked chrome plating. I contacted Hyundai customer assistance center at 1-800-633-5151 and was told that my vehicle was not included in the door handle recall (I. E. , NHTSA campaign id number: 09v171000). I don't understand how one vehicle can be recalled while others of the same year and model are not.

This complaint on a brand new 2013 Sonata, is about severe interior windshield distraction caused by the reflection of the interior dash onto the front, drivers windshield. The reflection of the interior on the windshield is so severe that it impairs safe driving. During daylight driving, everything that is located on the top of the interior dashboard vividly reflects onto the interior windshield. Design effects, speakers, steering wheel and even the drivers hands with fingernails on the windshield. Evening driving the reflection is also extremely impaired via distraction, for example the odometer reflects above the interior drivers window, above the mirror and its in full color! on a test drive, after my complaint, the dealer acknowledged this problem and suggested that it maybe from cleaning fluid used during the detailing process and had the car re-detailed, however this did not rectify the problem. I have directly notified Hyundai but have not heard back from them. I believe this a safety hazard and there is a dangerous flaw in the construction of the glass in this car.

Bumper (rear) fell off Hyundai Sonata 2012 my daughter was reversing in my front yard, when the rear bumper fell off the car. She did not hit anything or another vehicle. She was not hit either. It just fell off! the dealership would not believe us. There are other stories of this on the internet. Please do something, this could have happened on the highway with deadly results. We contacted Hyundai consumer services, they would not fix the problem, or acknowledge an awareness of this problem. Please help. This is a product defect. I am worried by Hyundai's casual lack of concern about this issue. Please do something before this causes any fatality. Sincerely, a worried mom.

The contact owns a owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the headlights illuminated dimmer than normal and made it very difficult to drive at night. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the headlights were performing up to standard and they could not alter the design. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,788 and the current mileage was 13,000. Updated 06/06/12 the consumer stated the low beams did not project adequately when driving up and down hills and driving around curves. The low beam head light projection decreased up to 50% and sometimes more than 50% depending on the size of the hill or curve. The consumer also stated the vehicle shifted in a rough manner and a fender lining was replaced.

The internal floor on driver side shows obvious erosion from normal salt exposure in the winter. Dealer ignored my complaint of the ersoin when I went to address another recall regarding salt erosion. Me and a family member received cuts on the finger from peeling covering on interior door handle. Paint near exterior handles scratches easily and eventually reveals the color of the second layer of paint which is a drastically different color from the car's exertior paint color.

Merged into left lane on highway going about 65mph. Car spun to face opposing way. Hit wall on passanger side, spun back around and went across highway to hit opposite wall. Car had been totalled as I walked away with.

My car made a loud thud while I was driving and then I heard my tire rubbing the wheel well. I had a very hard time steering and called my local garage. I looked on the internet and saw the specs on the recall and called my complaint into Hyundai. I then had my vehicle towed to the nearest dealer where it sits awaiting repair.

Was driving 2002 Sonata with child in car daughter got dizzy from gas fumes gas tank was leaking from top of tank,called Hyundai motor corp said car wasn't covered out of warranty,took it to the dealer was told car gas tank had to be dropped to find the problem,Hyundai refused to pay for tank to be dropped, finally took it to be fixed at a local service person ,found the gas tank was leaking from the middle of the tank at the half way mark,he found the tank was leaking to a stress crack on the tank,I find this to be a safety issue regarding this matter,there is a safety regarding stress cracks on the Sonata please call me at [xxx]. I am writing in regard to my 2000 Hyundai Sonata and its sub frame corrosion and the frustration I am feeling from this situation. I was driving to work on Friday August 27th around 520 a. M. And had been on the I-10 freeway about 5 miles going around 65 miles an hour, the road soon has a speed limit of 75 mph its a 25 mile stretch of desert and very heavily traveled by 18 wheelers making the haul to California (los angeles). Anyway, I had just passed a semi and was about to pass another (with one behind me) when I felt something like metal on pavement and thought something was terribly wrong with my front right tire. . . I did all I could to get off the freeway (on the left hand side) the semi behind me almost rear ended me along with several other vehicles on their way to work all I heard was horns, tires squealing, and saw people flipping me off all while I was trying to get off the freeway. I was somehow able to get the car off the road (barely over the yellow line). I tried to look at the front right side but the car was so close to the freeway I would have gotten hit. I didn't know whether to stay in the car or stand outside (if the car would have been hit either way would have been deadly). A police man came by about 10 minutes later and asked if I was okay and had me try to start the car the car would not move as if the gears were gone he used his patrol car to move the car from the roadway and down into the desert median. It was at this point that we took a look and could see that the right front tire was facing out approximately 45 degrees with wheel housing and fender damage. I called a friend, and a tow truck and went to work. The car was taken to a mechanics house and I was told after his inspection that the lower control arm completely separated/detached from the sub frame, with chunks of the frame still attached to the control arm hardware (noticeable severe rust/corrosion) when the lower control arm detached from the sub frame.

Interior door handle chrome peeling off causing sharp metal that can cut fingers or hands.

Door handle on driver's side interior stopped "catching" while trying to open door. Apparently this is a common problem with this vehicle. Have to open window to open door from outside. Cheap, plastic manufacturing. What if I needed to get out of the car during an accident. Opening the window or climbing through another door may not be an option.

Inside door handles thin covering (appears to be aluminum) is peeling apart and I have cut my hand on the sharp edge which came apart. Dealer will not replace the handle because Hyundai has not recalled the 2004 models which has the ***same problem* the 2003 model.

I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata which I bought new. In 2007 I found a crack in the front passenger dash where the cutout for the airbag was located. I took it to the dealership in sierra vista, az and they told me that many of these vehicles have a problem with the perforation in the dash causing the airbag to eventually come out of the dash. It was replaced. Three years later it has happened again the airbag perforation is basically cracking causing the exposure of the airbag compartment in the dash of the same vehicle I previously had replaced. Re- 2001 Hyundai Sonata I was on way to work going 93 north towards boston 1 exit away from work when I went over 3 small bumps on highway nothing out of the ordinary, yet my tires felt as if they were not stable I was only going 60 slowed down to 30 took off ramp 1 block away from work, then completely stopped at a cross street intersection to take a right. I proceeded then I flew forward in my car. My car stopped short for a second I thought I hit my shifter in neutral or reverse, that was not the case, I was in drive. Put car in park it made a searing ungodly sound I didn't know what was happening. I got out of my car just as two men came running over to help me. We noticed the tire completely against inside wheel frame. I just had a rim replaced not even 1 month ago and new brakes and tires yet I wasn't sure what this tire like that meant. I couldn't understand why I seem to be having to replace so many things, one right after another, however I was told after towing car to firestone that my whole car undercarriage frame subframe is completely rotted and that the axle is snapped and may even have damaged transmission I called Hyundai to put a complaint in. They told me I have a recall on my car when they looked up my car by the VIN yet I was never notified. They seemed quite caring and empathic to my situation, yet the last question they asked me, blew me away. Christine the operator from Hyundai asked me one more question ms. __ what do you plan to get out of this? are you kidding me? what a question, I asked if I should get a lawyer, and was it an voluntary or involuntary recall she said that Hyundai put this recall into effects after the company realized and found that they may have a defective corrosive situation, yet on the web they were obviously investigated first then did something about it. She said recalls started in July of 09 and are still being issued to date, she said she'd mail me a packet to fill out and send back -OH joy!! cant wait.
