Door Problems of Hyundai Sonata - part 2

The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph the exterior rear passenger door chrome plating detached from the door landed onto the hood of the vehicle. Unintended separation and exposure of sharp fragments can cause a serious injury. The vehicle has not been inspected or repaired to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were unavailable.

Repeated use of interior door handles on my 2002 Hyundai Sonata caused wear of the chrome plating and handles cracked and then had sharp edges which cut myself and some of my passengers and then I had to tape them. I took car back to 2 dealers, 1 didn't respond and the other fixed the problem with a bandaid, literally. They fixed it by putting a chrome adhesive pad over each of them, when I drove the car out of the lot and it was parked in the sun, the chrome plated adhesive strips came loose. I feel the need to fully replace all the defective door handles. This didn't resolve the problem and only made it worse with the doorhandles being sticky and unable to open at times until you stick the adhesive strip back on. I love my car and Hyundai but don't think they did the right thing with just masking the problem to save a little money. Please help! no deaths, but there were three people who were injured by cutting through the skin and would have been in bad shape had I taken a hemophiliac with me at some point.

Within one year of buying my Hyundai 2003 sonnta, I cut my finger on the silver coated inside door handle on the driver side. The silver coating of the door handle somehow splintered and cut my finger like a straight razor blade. The cut was very deep and my finger bled profusely for about 10 or 15 minutes. I contacted the dealer and the handle was replaced. A short time after, my husband sliced his finger on the passenger side inside door handle. Again the cut was very deep; it was like a straight razor cut. His finger bled profusely for 10 - 15 minutes. Again the dealer replaced the handle. Back in November of 2007, someone was getting out of the back seat, and then this person cut her finger on the silver coated inside door handle. This time I contacted Hyundai headquarters and told them about the problem. . The rep. I spoke to said she did not hear of any similiar problems. They contacted the car dealer and the handle was replaced. Now a couple of weeks ago, I cut my hand on the passenger door handle (this was a handle that had previously been replaced). I contacted Hyundai again and am awaiting disposition on this. There is something very wrong with these door handles. The cut it causes is like a straight razor cut. It slices deep and it bleeds very badly. I told Hyundai that I am sure I am not the only person to experience this serious problem. In fact, I searched the internet and found there are other people that have the same problem with these door handles. This is a very serious problem that I think the gov. Needs to get involved with. Seems to be a defect in the door handles. . . We have flaking of the chrome finish on our 2004 Sonata as well, primarily driver's door.

Two of the inside door handles have a silver metallic foil that has split and come loose. My son cut his finger opening the door. Now the driver door inside handle also has the silver foil coming loose. We have had to put tape on it to prevent getting another cut finger.

Driver door alarm keeps alarming. I took it in to the dealer once already to be repaired. The service manager at this time told me that on this model the door needs to be tightened/adjusted. Now 2 months later the same thing is happening only worse. Now the door light is coming on and the light on the dash board is coming on. Maybe the door is defective and going to fall off.

The vehicle was taken to the dealership where they replaced the door handles. The consumer is now having the same type of problem with the driver's side door. Updated 3/9/2006 -.

Consumer states that fornt doors do not un lock. Dealer notified.

Front passenger door handle broke. Nlm.

There was an erratic operation when the accelerator pedal is applied. The dealer could not duplicate the problem. The horn malfunctioned, the door(s) closed by themselves, and when the vehicle was driven pass the 40 mph mark, the transmission operated as if were catching up. Scc.

May 27, 1999: car was taken in due to low fuel light remaining on at all times. Sending unit was ordered. July 8, 1999: sending unit was replaced with new unit. Low fuel light continued to remain on at all times. Service department ordered another part (unsure of what this part was). July 22, 1999: returned car to service dept due to low fuel light remaining on at all times. Description of service on this date: board-prin, gauge assy. After this service, light no longer remains on at all times, but during the next few months, we notice the low fuel light does not come on at all, even when gas gauge falls below empty. Sept 16, 1999: (new complaint) reported that both front door speakers crackle and pop when radio is on and front doors are open. Service dept checks wiring, but problem continues upon picking up the car. We also report that power door locks will lock on their own. This problem is not fixed. Service dept says they cannot duplicate problem. December 7, 1999: we report once again that speaker wires pop and crackle mainly on passenger side door while radio is on. Service dept reports they test drove car, but could not duplicate problem. We also once again report that power door locks will lock on their own while driving. Service dept test drove car, but could not duplicate problem. July 3, 2000: report continued problem with front door speakers, power door locks, and low fuel light. Parts ordered. Sept 12, 2000: sending unit replaced again, however light still does not come on when gas gauge falls below empty. Service dept repaired short to ground wires to fix popping in front door speakers. Upon return home, problem continues. Problem with power door locks also continues.
