40 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/25/2018

I went to the nearest Hyundai dealership to get some open recalls that I had done and I had like 5 or 6, many of which were very critical. I got a call next day asking me to come and pick up my car, which I was very skeptical about. They asked me to sign a paper indicating that everything is done. I asked if I can speak to someone to explain why this happened so quickly and if there's anything to worry about and they couldn't connect me with anyone neither did they ask for my information to contact me when that expert is available. Now about a month since taking the car to the dealership, I check my VIN online and to my surprise 4 of the most critical open recalls are still not closed or remedied. They involve problems with the engine, transmission, seatbelt, and brake pedal. There are all issues that could result in a fatal accident. I don't really know what to do because this is a matter of honesty. I should not have had to check for them to begin with. This Hyundai dealer is sunbury motors Hyundai.

42 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/28/2017

I first noticed the valve cover gasket leaking onto the alternator at about 121,000 miles and at 140. 000 miles I had the valve cover gasket replaced, thermostat, intake plennom gasket also. And had the alternator replaced after it failed because of the oil leaking onto it at 156,092. Luckily I just drove by my mechanics garage at about 50 mph and about a mile passed his garage the car started to buck and stall and all the dash board lights were flashing along with the cd turning on and off along with the seat belt light which was flashing on and off when it was buckled for about 1 month prior to this failure. I actually made it to his garage before it shut down in his parking lot.

43 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata to visit family for thanksgiving. Halfway through the trip I heard a rubbing, grinding noise. I stopped and looked under the hood and could not find the source, but figured it was a belt issue since the check engine light was not on. I called the nearby Hyundai dealership to see if they knew what it could be. They did not but checked my VIN for recalls. I was told there were no recalls so I headed towards the dealership for a diagnosis. Soon after getting back on the road a loud bang occurred and the exhaust started smoking. I pulled over to call for a tow and again opened the hood. I noticed a fire had started under the engine so I got my wife out of the car and the car became fully engulfed. Called 911 and a fire unit responded to put out the fire. Car was then towed.

44 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/29/2017

Just purchased this vehicle off a lot two days ago and ran a VIN to see if its all legit after I get it home. Two recalls came up and on one it states no remedy for the seat belts and neither one has been taken care of, where does this leave me at and what do I need to do, I paid cash money for this car and only two days this shows up, can the car dealer be held responsible?.

45 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

Was getting onto the highway when my power steering gave out, was able to pull onto the side of the road away from traffic. My engine started knocking and I was unable to keep my car running. I had it towed to Hyundai in clarksville maryland, where they stated I had engine failure and that it needed to be replaced. They are now telling me they can't replace it although it is under a recall and under the cut off mileage. They are not communicating with me about the repair of my car and have yet made any attempts to get me into a new car. At this point I don't want my car repaired, I would rather them buy my car back or put me in a new car. The car has 5 recalls that I an aware about including the engine, power steering, front seat belt latches, my brakes pedal, and front coil springs.

46 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

For the second time, I have had oil leaking out of the valve cover or timing belt cover onto the alternator. So much so, that the alternator becomes soaked and "shorts out" according to a Hyundai dealer. Mechanics who have repaired this all agree that this is a hazard and public safety issue. "fire risk" and "sudden complete loss of control at highway speeds" were both mentioned. Hyundai states that my vehicle is out of warranty due to mileage and says that there is no recall for this problem despite the obvious risks that their mechanics and other mechanics mention. After very little effort in researching this problem on the internet, it immediately became obvious that this is a common recall for Hyundai concerning this engine(3. 3l v6). The recalls name other Hyundai products but for some reason skip my vehicle even though two reps at Hyundai customer service state that "you are describing the exact same problem". We have spent close to $1000 on this one issue in the last year. It nearly caused my wife to be stranded on the interstate 10hrs from home. And Hyundai admits that it is an issue but because my VIN is not listed, they refuse to help fix or refund any thing that has already been spent on this manufacture defect. Again, I emphasize that this is a public safety hazard that needs to be addressed. Despite recent repair, this problem still continues. The vehicle was traveling at 70mph each time this issue occurred. I have records of repair from independent mechanics and statement from Hyundai stating this problem. This occurred at 118,000 and 132,000 miles. It seems like it occurred prior to this as well(looking for records).

47 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/15/2017

Driving at highway speed on capital beltway the engine just stopped. Had to coast to right shoulder with hazard lights on. Near collision. Car started up. Later that afternoon the car started knocking and then the oil light started pulsing and then the car just stopped at highway speeds. Had to limp it to the right shoulder and wait 2. 5+ hours to get a tow to the dealership. 101,846 miles. I've had to replace the starter and fix the steering issue at my cost. I maintain my vehicles per factory spec and take them to the dealer for repairs. (I have a Ford ranger with 240,000 miles on it!). Dealer has informed me that the engine needs to be replaced or rebuilt. The 2. 4l engine is notorious for this failure pattern.

Shortly after hearing a sound like a worn belt while driving I called the dealer/auto-shop from the vehicle and informed them that I would be bringing the vehicle in immediately, approximately 10 miles distance. Roughly 1 mile from the dealership the vehicle began losing power and I pulled to the side of the highway, while calling for a tow-truck a passing motorist stopped and informed me that 'your car is on fire. ' I exited the vehicle and then I saw flames coming from the engine compartment. At that time the local pd arrived and called for a fire truck. After the fire department extinguished the fire the vehicle was towed the last mile to the dealership.

52 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/18/2017

On March 10 I took my Sonata to get an oil change at superlube. I also took the car on the 11th to the Hyundai dealership to check for a knocking noise I had heard in the car. They ran tests and told me my engine was fine, and I need brakes, an alignment, and tires. So I spent $800 getting these things done on my car including the oil change. Well on the 18th of March in traveling my car stopped in the middle of the highway. I crank up it drive for a minute and cut right back off again. So I had the car towed to my house. They ran tests, could not find anything wrong with the car, thought it was my pulley, but it was all right. So the mechanic said let's try another oil change. Started draining the oil, it was black as tar as if I had not gotten an oil change. Treated the gas and the fuel injection system. Still a knock in acceleration. Went back to superlube to give them a piece of my mind only to find out that the manager had been having problems with gdi engines and the fuel injection system. Told me that they knew about it and-and not saying anything. I was only mad because I had taken my car to Hyundai twice since I had the car in a year for engine inspection and not one time did they tell me this.

53 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

'"engine seized" well I was planning to take a trip in a week to visit family in nm. So I started by taking my car in for some recalls that I saw my 2011 Sonata needed, so I took the car and they did rust preventive and column shaft ecu replaced plus they did a courtesy multi-point inspection and I was told and given my copy and was told to replace cabin filter, drive belt, brake fluid because it is dark, plus I need an alignment -recommended. I got the alignment done and the brake fluid flush done at firestone the next day after I had my vehicle serviced at Hyundai dealer, everything was good! so now I figured to have my coolant flushed because the car has 97,000 miles and its due for this service, and I had transmission fluid drained and replaced also. . . Well after all work was performed and the car was taken out for final road test the engine just seized stopped, the engine would not even turn over? everything was good on the electrical side battery, starter was clicking and an odor like something burning was given off when I was shown that the engine would not even turn over? the manager just told me to call Hyundai and have it checked out?! %#! so I called aaa and had my car towed to dealer, right away they tell me there is a $125. 00 diagnostics charge and was told that most likely the engine is not covered ? because I'm the subsequent owner! I was a bit angry at this point because when I spoke to "m" on the phone and explained my situation, I was told that if it's the short block on the engine I was covered, but once there I was told totally a different line! I am not happy at all! and somehow the warranty doesn't cover subsequent owners up to 100,000 miles! I always serviced my car etc. . . :( now I wait for the bad news from Hyundai service. . .

On 10/14/2016 while my wife was leaving work she went to turn the vehicle and it was very hard but managed to get home and woke me up, I then went out and viewed that the serpentine belt was very loose and that there was a pulley laying by the engine; jd byrider fixed the issue of pulley and belt; after we received the vehicle back we noticed that the clicking type noise was still there.

58 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/16/2016

Same problem as described in 14v415000 Hyundai veracruz recall. While driving the esc warning light on, then intermittent battery + seat belt indicating alternator failure, caused by leaking valve cover. Can cause sudden failure. This defect is not isolated to the veracruz and perhaps the recall should be broadened.

59 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/26/2016

Upon starting the car, I heard a high-pitched whine from the engine that increased in volume and intensity as I accelerated (in town), and then I observed two puffs of smoke or steam arise from under the front of the hood. I immediately stopped at a nearby mechanic, who observed that the front cylinder bank valve cover was leaking oil. The whine, which gradually went away, may have been oil getting onto the alternator belt. Fortunately, we seem to have caught this in time, as the alternator did not appear to be damaged, but it easily could have been, as the edge of the valve cover hangs directly over the alternator in the 3. 3l v6 engine. The leak may have been more of a "sweat" for an undetermined amount of time; only the whine alerted me to anything being wrong, and may have been a sign the leak was getting worse over time. The mechanic replaced the valve cover gasket. What is frustrating is that Hyundai has issued a recall for this same problem, on the very same engine I believe, for their vera cruz models, but not their Sonatas for the same years. They should recall the Sonatas with this engine as well, as the alternator can be destroyed if this isn't caught and fixed.

60 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has been back and forth to the dealer. Every time I turn around the this car has a recall. I don't even know about the recall until a light pops up or I have a weird noise while driving. One time the car just felt weird while driving and I went to get it checked out and found out about the recalls. First seatbelt, then engine line needed replacing, then another part needed replacing, then another. After going there Monday for for the engine immobilizer, the brake hold light being I was told something was replaced, and OH a recall was handled. Then to come back Friday and after 4-5 hours be told the abs has to be replaced, meaning I have to come back because it has to be ordered. Then, after leaving, now the tire pressure light is on, and there appears to be enough air in each tire!! so I don't know what is going on. Note to self, don't by a car before the year it comes out. Bought this 2015 in 2014. I really think the manufacturer needs to notify consumers of these recalls. I shouldn't find out about them only after bringing the car in for an issue or an oil change.

63 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/08/2015

I was on my way home from work and accelerating from a stop at a traffic light when the car seized and initially appeared to lose power. No indicator lights came on prior to the incident occurring and there were no other indicators of any problems such as smoke, a smell, or any leaks on the ground when driving or parked. After pulling the car over and opening the hood everything appeared to be fine. We were unable to diagnose the problem and had it towed to a local repair shop. The next day the repair shop called and stated there appeared to be some sort of unknown damage to the engine which caused it to completely drain of oil. Oil covered the entire area of the engine compartment underneath the casing. The mechanics at the shop were unable to get the engine to turn at all. The vehicle just had a full service at the dealership on 4/24/2015 including: oil & filter change, fuel induction service, replace engine air filter, replace cabin air filter, rotate tires, check brakes, check exhaust, suspension, belts, and hoses, top off all fluids, and multi-point inspection. At that time the car was noted in perfect working condition and no issues were annotated. The estimated cost to repair the engine is between $9,000 and $10,000, but the repair shop hasn't fully assessed the damage to the rest of the vehicle. From what I understand this should be under the extended powertrain warranty, but I'm currently going through the claims process to try and resolve this. A quick search brings up a multitude of similar cases for Hyundai Sonatas referring to catastrophic engine failure with near identical circumstances to what I experienced.

64 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

The contact was unable to determine what caused the oil to lower and the premature failure of the engine. The engine assembly was replaced by an independent mechanic. The dealer had been unclear as to when the remedy and parts would be available. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v190000 (steering), 17v152000 (seat belts), 15v759000 (service brakes, hydraulic), 15v568000 (engine), 14v433000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 10v457000 (steering). 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to replacement of drive belt issues. The consumer stated there were no issues with the vehicle, prior to the drive belts being replaced. A few weeks after the belts were replaced, the vehicle was not performing well when driven. There was hardness on the accelerator pedal, there was a slight, faint chirping, faint grinding sound when the a/c was turned on. The manager informed the consumer, the noise was coming from the a/c/panel and maybe a loose flap. However, the noise continued. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic, who inspected the vehicle and discovered the belt that was installed was not the correct one for the vehicle. However, after the original belt was installed the noise was still present, but not as loud. Also, the struts were replaced due to hearing a noise when going over bumps.

67 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Car accelerated suddenly and could not be stopped. I was in a parking lot and backed up to leave, accidentally hitting a storage container with my rear bumper. I put car in drive to move forward and the car accelerated out of control by itself traveling fast about 30 feet. I tried to brake but could not stop the car. We hit a fence, moving the fence about 5 feet and hit the car parked on the opposite side of the fence, smashing in the passenger side of the car. We had our seat belts on and were not injured but without seat belts we would have been thrown through the windshield. I do not feel safe driving this car anymore.
