I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata and I am experiencing bad odor coming from the ac unit. It smells very bad when I turn on the ac and at times the unit blows out very warm humid air into the car while the ac is running. I changed the cabin air filter , looked for dead rodents and couldn't find any. Took the car to the dealer and they told me that it is caused by mold and mildew caused by the moisture trapped in the evaporator. My concern is the mold and mildew that can cause respitory problems for the drivers and passengers. I researched online and many other owners are experiencing similar problems. I was told that this issue is not covered under the warranty. I would like NHTSA to investigate this problem for the safety of the drivers, passengers and children that will be travelling in these vehicles. Please refer this link for similar complaints. . Purchased a 2009 Sonata in spetember of 2008, the air conditioner does not drain and has developed a mold smell when air is on. Returned to dealer,
they want to "clean" evaporator with a foam cleaner at a cost of over $100. 00. The tech said to drive car in the outside air circulator and not the recycle air engaged, since I refused the "cleansing". This making me sick, friend has a 2009 santa fe with same issue.

The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer four times due to overheating. During each visit, the dealer stated that the water pump needed to be replaced. The water pump was replaced in June of 2007, but the failure recurred in August while driving 15 mph. The water pump was replaced again in September of 2008. The contact believes that there is failure with the heating or cooling system in the vehicle for the same issue to recur within a year of having it replaced. The manufacturer refused to be liable or make partial payments for the repairs to the vehicle. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 77,000 and current mileage was 133,000.
My vehicles check engine light has been on for well over a year now. I believe this problem is dut to a manufacturer's defect and I should not have to come out of my pocket to pay for a company's mishap. I would like the problem to be corrected as soon as possible.
