I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. I purchased 2 sets of new tires in the past 4 years and have had roughly 15 flat tires. I also most recently almost killed myself and my 3 kids w/ having the tire rod almost crack. I had a bill of $385 to have just that one part to be fixed. I have been on hold for over an hour now for the recall number I received in the mail. I am a single parent and need to be reimbursed for my troubles as this was directly related to the recall letter I just received. Please contact me.

I own a 2000 Hyundai Sonata. While driving my car at about 20-30 mph my sub-frame collapsed which caused my front drivers side tire to come completely off. When the subframe collapsed it fell on my axle which damaged. While there was a recall on the subframe my axle was not covered even thought the subframe collapsing is a direct result of my tire and axle detaching from my car. After voicing my concern Hyundai stated to me that they do not cover subsequently damage and that was nothing else to be said or done. This to me is a bunch of crap! if the subframe was not defective I would of never endured these problems with my vehicle. I have not had any major problems with my car until now. I have contacted Hyundai's consumer relations and they have done nothing no one is taking responsibility. I will contact my attorney general about this. This is not fair! thank god I was not seriously hurt because I would have been on my own. As they said they do not cover subsequently damages.

My 2002 Hyundai Sonata began pulling hard to the right on 8/6/09 so I called the dealership to schedule maintenance thinking that there was a problem with my alignment. I was able to get an appointment on 8/10/09. When driving in traffic on 8/9/09 my car started to get out of control and then crashed into the curb. I was unable to drive it so I had to have it towed to the dealership. I found out that the subframe and axel were broken and that I would be expected to pay for the axel and labor.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the frame needed to be replaced. Prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the vehicle had numerous alignment issues. I took my car to a mechanic today to have the brake pads replaced and he found a corroded hole in the sub-frame assembly. He mentioned this was recalled by Hyundai last year but I was never notified of such a recall and I'm upset as this could have caused a very serious accident. Why was I not notified of the recall first of all, and what is Hyundai going to do to fix my car?.

I purchased a pre-owned Hyundai Sonata in January 2008 from a dealer. This past Tuesday, the frame of my car broke while I was on the road. Luckily for me, I was not on the highway. After some research I found out that 1999-2002 Sonata had problem with the car frame. I contacted the company and was asked to take the car to a Hyundai dealer who would fix the frame for me. Although the company is fixing the frame at no cost, I had to rent a car and I still have it. The total charges for it till now have been $700. I also paid twice for getting my car towed. I requested the company to reimburse me for the rental car charges which they deny doing. I would have driven my Sonata for another 3-4 yrs. As I am a recent graduate and looking for a job, I cannot afford to buy a new car and pay huge rental fee. But at the same time, I am concerned about my safety even after the front frame is fixed. I would appreciate if you can guide me about how to approach this situation with Hyundai. I am spending a lot of money on rental and at the same time I will have to buy a new car. The contact owns a 2000 Hyundai Sonata. While driving between 44-55 mph, the vehicle began pulling to the left without assistance. The contact experienced difficulty steering the vehicle and had to exert great effort to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle steered only in one direction without warning. The contact made several attempts to correct the steering before it resumed normal operation. In addition, the contact heard a metal noise outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and they stated that the front subframe detached from the body due to rust corrosion. Nhtsa campaign id number 09v124000 (suspension) was referenced. The vehicle is in the process of being repaired. The contact was displeased to know that a wheel alignment was required in conjunction to the recall repair. The authorized dealer would not assume financial responsibility for the wheel alignment. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was unavailable. Updated 10/21/09. The consumer stated the remedy was not sufficient without a front wheel alignment. The consumer stated the vehicle was fine until the frame broke. The consumer paid for the alignment out of pocket. 2002 Hyundai Sonata subframe failure.

While changing the ball bearing, the mechanic noticed that there was severe rusting on the front right side frame. He warned that the car would just collapse. There were 3-4 inch big holes in the frame. This could have caused fatal injury. The car is less than 7 year old for such severe rusting to occur.

I own a 20001 Hyundai Sonata. I took it to the repair shop for a front end alignment because the car was pulling badly to the right and was informed that the subframe on the right front is severely rusted. It was recommended that I not continue to drive this car because it is extremely dangerous to do so.

When I brought car in for inspection, was told front sub-frame was rotted out. There is a six inch hole in it. The car has always been well maintained, it has low miles, and it should not have rotted out like it has already. If I had kept driving it the entire wheel could have fallen off, possibly hurting or killing me and my family. Have not corrected it, as it's at least a thousand dollar fix.

Was told by mechanic that my frame is rotting out. Has holes size of golf ball not to mention lines 5-6" of rot. Mechanic informed me that he will no longer work on the car as it is too dangerous for me to drive it and suggests I get a new car.

I recently bought a 2000 Hyundai Sonata and was told that there was an alignment problem. At first it wasn't too bad but I took it in to get the alignment fixed. The mechanic asked me to come look at the car. When I went under the vehicle the mechanic pointed out to me that there was a gaping hole in the sub frame of this vehicle. I was told that if hadn't come in when I did this problem could have killed me. Worst off is that this vehicle only has 68,000 miles on it. My father and the tow truck operator said the lower control arm had come off after looking further we noticed the sub frame had broken apart due to rot. This car was well cared for and im finding it hard to accept this as normal. After looking online I have seen this to be common on this model. My daughter and myself were exiting a highway and the car seemed to be pulling. When I got on a secondary road it got worse. Within a few miles the car just stopped. This happened Saturday and im calling Hyundai Monday. With luck they will deal with it.

Upon taking the vehicle to the shop to see what was wrong, the new tires were completely wore out with metal sticking out. It was discovered that the subframe of the Sonata was rusted completely in two. This is a devastating concern because this could have cost my child a life. The Sonata actually belonged to my sixteen year old daughter! after looking on the internet to see if there has been a problem, I find that there is and has been an ongoing problem in which no one has bothered to recall the vehicles and get them off he road! very concerning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my daughter or stepson could have lost their life!!!!! nothing has been done to correct the problem and I have researched to find there is many accidents resulting from same problem!.

2002 Hyundai Sonata sub frame corrosion and front rt wheel collapsed. Local dealer covered cost of sub frame replacement, but charged me for a new sway bar. Front fender was pushed against passenger door, which Hyundai would not fix, and car now has severe wobbling when driven, unlike before the corrosion. Hyundai says it's an alignment problem and my responsibility. I am wondering what recourse I have against Hyundai, as the car was well maintained and drove smoothly before this damaged occurred. Lucky no one was hurt, since the wheel let go at a low speed.

In February I had gone to have my oil changed by my uncle who works at a shop in franklin he had put my car up on the lift and looked it over to ensure there wasn't any major problems in which he concluded there was not. On March 20th 09 I went to pep boys to have 4 new tires put on and an alignment done. On March 24th I was driving my son home and notice the car was making a odd noise and figured I should get it looked at. I went home and about an hour later I went to pull out of the driveway to take my car to my uncles shop when I heard a terrible loud noise so I put the car in park the conclusion was that my axle broke off and my subframe was completely rotted and my engine was almost on the ground.

After taking my 2000 Sonata to town fair tires to replace a damaged tire I was told "you have a hole in your frame. . . You should get that looked at" . . . So the following Monday I took it in to my mechanic who told me that townfair tires never should have let me leave the lot. My a-frame had a 6" piece completely rotted and missing, near my front right tire. He said one good pothole and my wheel would have come off. I'm told it will cost $1,000 to fix. And if I decide to do this, I'm out of a car for a week!! and while I wait I'm still out of a car anyway! I'm hearing more and more stories of other Sonata owners having this very same problem. I'm lucky that I wasn't on the highway doing 60mph and had my wheel fall off.

Vehicle steering wheel started to unalign counter clockwise in the last week,then a noise from the front right wheel, then my wife pulled into the garage when I noticed the front passenger wheel on a tilt. I looked under the car and there is a huge 4" hole of rust right through the frame.

I was driving down the road at 30mph and the car started swerving left and right like 'crazy'. I pulled over and noticed the drivers side front wheel was bent even though wheels were straight. I looked underneath the car and there was crack all the way through the subframe of the car where the lower torque arm attaches to the wheel. The torque arm looked fine but where it attached was rusted so much it broke. I touched this area and noticed a fist sized hole of metal had rusted away. Hyundai apparently used very cheap metal when building their product. I checked the other side and noticed the same problem. The other front wheel side is about ready to break too and fall off the car. I managed to make it home trying my best to stay in one lane which was very hard and didn't always do that. Come to find out from the mechanic, my car is unsafe to drive because my engine cradle (sub frame) is completely rusted in half which was throwing off my alignment. I see that there have been many complaints about this exact same thing, why has this safety issue not been recalled?.

While driving close to home my Hyundai Sonata 1999 started pulling to the right , getting more severe by the minute. I decided to go home. By the time I got home the front right wheel was leaning towards the outside of car. I took the wheel off and discovered that the lower front control arm separated from the frame because of severe corrosion in the sub frame of car.

2001 Hyundai Sonata bought less than 4 years ago has severe rotting in the subframe. Mechanic says it is extremely dangerous and considers it a deathtrap. I've had one problem after another since I bought this car and I just don't understand why this car hasn't been recalled as of yet. So many people have experienced many of the same problems with this model it is appalling. I am completely disgusted in the fact that this degree of rot does not happen in 3 years and most definitely was sold to me this way. I was not told by the dealer of any rot in the subframe when I purchased this vehicle, how is that legal??? something needs to be done about the all to common problems with this car or do people have to lose their lives in an accident before this is taken seriously?.

I hit a pothole and the right front began to pull, upon taking the car to a repair shop the found that the front subframe was rotted through on there right side and almost as bad on the left side.

Sub-frame corrosion resulted in a loss of control and vehicle disablement due to wheel collapse.

My 2002 Hyundai Sonata lx has the common problem of the subframe rotting out on the passenger side where the control arm mounts. I noticed the problem during an oil change and have taken the car off the road due to safety issues. The control arm has not let go yet, but I do not dare to drive the car due to the extent of the rust. I am going to be contacting Hyundai to see about a warranty.

The car was sitting in the parking lot and when we went out to start the engine it turned over but it wouldn't move so we towed it to a local goodyear repair garage where they report that the undercarriage has rusted through and the motor dropped and bent the axle. They cannot find a used undercarriage that isn't rusted through. We have reported this to Hyundai consumer affairs and they have given us a case number (3122110) but report that this car has not been recalled.

While driving the vehicle suddenly pulled sharply to the right. There was a bad grinding noise when ever we turned a corner. This happened as my wife was coming home from work. I took it to test drive and was surprised with how difficult it was to control. I took it to my mechanic and he said the sub frame was completely rusted through and the vehicle was not safe to operate. He was able to find a used sub frame to replace it and I did save the old sub frame.

While making a right hand turn the drivers side lower control arm tore out of sub frame causing vehicle to pull out of control into oncoming traffic lane. Both axles were destroyed. Hyundai will pay for frame replacement but no other costs. The axles , 2 tows. 1 to my home the 2nd to dealership or the car rental that they arranged and originally said they pay for. My case manager will not take my calls nor will anybody explain why they wont pay for the damages there own dealer said was caused by defective frame.

I have a 2001 Hyundai Sonata I purchased in 2005 used from a Toyota dealership, and didn't have a warranty on the car. I took it in to my local garage in January 2009 so they could check out a noise my car is making. They said that when they put it up on the lift, they saw that my cradle is severely rusted and that my car will not pass inspection in June and replacing it would be about the cost of my car. I have researched online and found that many others are having the same problem. Hyundai should have made a recall so I don't have to purchase a new car right now. Thank you.
