2008 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer states discontent with denial of a online coupon, unresolved thumping, vibration that occurs when the vehicle is started. In addition the turn signal flasher/clicker is too quiet. The consumer stated the thumping and vibration occurred when he would drive away after the vehicle had been sitting overnight or it had been parked for 4-6 hours. After driving 3-5 miles, the thumping would go away, but not entirely. The thumping and vibration was felt in the steering. The consumer also stated the tires that came as standard equipment performed badly during snow and ice conditions. The tires did not grip properly. The consumer believed the problems were associated with the tires, because after the tires warm up, the thumping diminished quite a bit. The tires also had flat spots. The dealer replaced the flasher, but it didn't make any difference. The consumer stated it was still too quiet.

I currently own a year 2000 Hyundai Sonata v6 GLS. On the morning of July 17th, 2008 at approx. 3:45 am I was driving my vehicle on a newspaper route for a local distribution company. I was making a right hand turn off a main street onto a side street as I my steering wheel jearked to the right very quickly, and my car out of the blue went out of allignment, to a degree that it would appear that I must have crashed into something. But I did not. As time went on, my tires began shreading themselves onto the area surrounding the actual two front tires. When I went to a local firestone to get a allignment and two new front tires, they lifted it up and informed me that the problem was a part called the "subframe" and it was extremely rusted on the right hand side. After reading various reports on the internet, I decided to write a formal complaint on this vehicle. I have yet to contact Hyundai directly as it is the weekend, but my intent is to inform them on Monday morning. The approx. Mileage on this vehicle is 122,000 miles.

My right front wheel didn't feel right , took it to a service station to be looked at. They brought me in to see that the whole frame under the car is rusted. The bolts that hold up the axle and suspension were completely gone and there was a hole in the under carriage. The wheel was tilted and the inside of the tire was worn all the way down . There was nothing there to support the wheel.

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The front passenger side air bag light illuminated intermittently. The air bag light indicated that the air bag was deactivated. The dealer stated that the passenger may not weigh enough to activate the air bag feature. The contact's wife is the only passenger that sits in the passenger seat and she weighs 135 lbs. The VIN was verified, but appears to be invalid. The engine size was unknown. The failure mileage was 10 and current mileage was 2,600. Updated 03/04/08. The consumer stated the vehicle vibrates at the speed of 40 to 45 miles per hour. Updated 03/04/08.
2000 Hyundai Sonata with a defective sub frame. Consumer would like to be reimbursed for expenses on the repair of the sub-frame. He also believes that Hyundai needs to put out a recall on them and get them fixed due to concerns with the sub-frame. The consumer stated as he was driving, the lower control arm of the front passenger wheel disconnected from the vehicle which caused him to slide to an immediate halt. The cause of the failure was due to a poorly designed frame which rusted and rotted so badly that the control arm had fallen off the frame, the axle ripped from the transmission and the wheel had slammed into the wheel housing and quarter panel. The insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss due to the extent of the damage
prior to the frame damage, the consumer experienced a flat tire which was due to excessive wear on the inside of tire.

On August 25th, 2007, my wife and I were driving home on the southern state parkway. There was quite some traffic (stop-and-go kind of thing) so we weren't at a high speed. When the person in front of me had to stop short, I stepped on the brakes, and the front right wheel of my car sunk, and there was a loud noise like metal scratching against the pavement . After I finally managed to stop the car without getting hit by another driver, and checking to see if my wife was ok, I got out of the car just to find out that my front right wheel was in an almost horizontal position. After towing the car to the repair shop, my mechanic found out that the axle and the lower control arm broke because the engine cradle was severely rusted, and therefore there was no support for the axle and the control arm to sustain the weight and pressure of the sudden stop. Needless to say, I believe that my wife and I are very lucky to not have been injured, or to cause somebody else an injury. The repairs were costly, but I had to do it. I need the car to work, and we live in a place were the car is an everyday necessity. The cradle for this vehicle was damaged and completely rusted away and needed to be replaced completely at a cost of $2,897. 22. We also incurred the following expenses due to the cradle failing while we were driving the car on the southern state parkway on August 25th, 2007: towing charge of $168. 37, car rental charges of $164. 53. A written estimate from a local body shop for $996. 59 should be added to cover the body damage sustained when the right side axle and right side lower control arm cracked, causing the front right side wheel to bend the right side bumper cover. My mechanic kept the old cradle up to a couple of months ago, when after dealing with the local dmv office and explaining the situation they informed us that "a dmv judge wouldn't even look at this case". I do still have pictures of the rusted cradle where you can see the fist-sized holes in it.
: the contact stated after having a flat tire due to a road hazard, the dealer performed an inspection and it was determined the tread depth was depleted. The tires were replaced. The tires were michelin mxd4 plus h 205/165/115. Additionally, the automatic transmission was slipping into gears without warning while driving various speeds. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. The automatic transmission seized and was towed to the dealer. The vehicle is currently awaiting replacement of the automatic transmission.

The consumer has a tire for life contract. The consumer took the vehicle into the dealership for replacement tires. The tires were replaced with p205/65r15 m/s. The vehicle manual stated that the appropriate tire size should be p205/60r15 91h.
I bought my 2001 Hyundai Sonata less than 2 years ago. Since that time I have had to replace both window motors, front and rear brakes, timing belt and all tires. I would have thought that a brand new car would be trouble-free (that's why I chose Hyundai, because of the great warranty) however, it appears that is not the case. My car recently broke down on my way home from work, had to be towed and was in for repair for a week (timing belt), which was a huge inconvenience and expense for me. I am now looking for a suitable trade-in for my Hyundai and would not recommend one to friends and family members.
Vehicle repair log states that the right front tires are noisy.
