1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/19/2019

Something is majorly wrong with how this vehicle shifts gears. When you slow down, or don't come to a complete stop for several seconds, the transmission doesn't down shift properly, causing a transmission slippage and an over revving of the engine, which results in a delay in acceleration. This is an extremely dangerous situation when trying to merge into oncoming traffic. On several occasions, I have tried to turn onto a street or highway and nearly been rear ended or t-boned because of my vehicle stalling for no reason, leaving me floundering in the middle of the street until the vehicle decided to shift properly and resume acceleration. This vehicle needs to be recalled immediately before someone gets killed, for it is only a matter of time before that happens, provided it hasn't already occurred. In fact, I got in a car accident the other day while merging onto a frontage road next to an interstate, and I believe that this stalling transmission slippage is to blame. Please take this issue seriously as it appears that many other people are having this same dangerous problem with their 2017 tuscons as well. This dangerous defect occurs every day I drive this vehicle. Every day.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/07/2017

Transmission computer reset recall - purchased the car in June 13, 2016. Drove it to l. A. A few weeks and noticed accelration would become hesitant in traffic after 15-20 mins in slower traffic. Problem was very pronounced in stop and go traffic of 15-20 travel times. So, tried to give enough space in between me and car ahead so that I wouldn't ride brake or inch forward. At scheduled services informed service tech about it and they said they would take a look. There was a recall campaign that addressed this issue and computer reset to handle transmission problem. In March/April 2017. Still noticed the hesitation problem and noted this to tech at service appointments. Oct 8, 3 sisters and niece went to apple hill and after 35 mins going uphill on stop and go traffic on windy road, transmission over heated and computer dashboard alerted me to pull over safely . I pulled car over to able apple acres farm and we let transmission cool for about 45 mins. When we got out the car it smelled horrible like burnt clutch smell. We got back in started it up and was going to go up the hill a mile. Immediately burnt clutch smell was evident after 3-4 minutes and car was hesitant and lurching forward when I stepped on the gas. Like the transmission was slipping. That when we all noticed the shuddering feeling when I would let of the brake to give it gas as the car would roll back slightly before the gear engaged. Like the car was going to stall out like in a manual transmission car. Very jerky. So, I made a turn to go back down the hill and the brakes were 2-4 seconds delayed. I felt like I was slamming on them. We headed home and the folsom outlets to let the transmission cool of for a few hours. Made sure to turn off traction and eco hoping that would help. Traffic was better as it appears transmission does like stop/go situations on inclines or level surfaces.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/10/2017

I have had two emergency recalls due to transmission slipping, jerking at slow speeds, almost stalling out and actcellerating abnormally with the rpm's racing. During each recall, the dealership completes an updated software on the transmission and when I leave the dealership, my vehicle noticeably drives much smoother and normal. A few days later, the Tucson transmission problem begins all over again like the it acted before. I feel this 2016 Hyundai tuscon eco 1. 6lt SUV is a danger to myself and other vehicles on the road. What is my recourse on this continuous transmission problem? it has about 11k in mileage. Can this vehicle be lemon law'd as I have owned it for under a year?.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Had recall 16-01-057 performed at local Hyundai dealer in hackettstown and since then have had multiple issues with it not moving when at a traffic light like transmission is slipping and then it grabs and almost causes accident. . Dealer says that recall would not make it do this and when they drive say there are no issues. There are multiple other people on internet having same issue, so not something I am making up. When is something going to be done about this before someone is killed.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/07/2016

Dual clutch transmission slips and car will dangerously not accelerate when cold.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/05/2016

This is my second complaint on this car. There has been previous problems with the transmission slipping and the car would not move. The car would suddenly lurch forward or backward if you were backing out of a parking space. We took our car to the dealership for service on September 20, 2016 while it was there two recalls were taken care of. One was recall 149 which is supposed to fix the problem. The other was for a hood latch. Since this service work there have been additional problems with the car. I began keeping a log before the last service work. Same type problems as before the recall was taken care of. Today, my wife called me in a panic about the car. She had tried to pull out on a highway and the car revved up but did not move. She said the car suddenly lurched forward very abruptly so much so the traction control light came on. She is scared to drive the car anymore. I called tameron Hyundai and spoke with randall in service. I explained the incidents that had happened since the recall. He asked if we could bring the car in today. We could not due to work reasons. I will be taking the car to the dealer tomorrow. Not sure what they will do or say. I too am very concerned about the safety of driving this car.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

I purchased the vehicle on 8/6/16 but the dealership had to located the vehicle with our specifications and get it from another dealer. We test drove a similar Tucson and while we drove the test vehicle it would not accelerate after being stopped at a red light. Then the rpm's where going crazy and it felt like the transmission was slipping. It had 5,000 mi. On it and the salesman had to take it to the service dept. We asked if this was a common issue, he assured us it wasn't and played it off. Sadly, we did end up purchasing another Tucson 2016 with 356 mi. On it on 8/8/2016. I have already had problems with it. 1st) trying to back out of my driveway, would not go. 2nd) leaving a parking space it would not go forward. 3rd) driving in a parking garage uphill and the transmission was slipping and couldn't go up the ramp properly. I tried to take it back to the automax dealership in norman, ok and they would not take it back after 3 days and they knowingly sold me and unsafe and defective vehicle!!! I haven't even used a half tank of gas. I did tell them to stop the paperwork on it and now we are dealing with Hyundai headquarters. I am currently driving a rental car and my brand new unsafe and defective Hyundai Tucson 2016 is sitting in my driveway!!!! Hyundai needs to take these vehicle off the road before anyone dies!!! there needs to be an investigation ASAP!!!!!!.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

Transmission is slipping when accelerating from a stopped to start, or a rolling low speed to accelerating causing the vehicle to drift into intersection or lane without power. Attempts to re-shift into gear were unsuccessful. Car slammed into gear at high rpm while attempting to clear an intersection causing a jerking into gear sensation and accelerating very quickly. This has happened several times and getting more frequent. Took it to local dealer for service. Dealer checked for any mechanical failures and found none. Dealer acknowledged Hyundai is aware of a widespread issue with this model car and the dual clutch transmission not properly engaging. Dealer reset the learning mode of the transmission in attempt to temporarily delay the symptoms. The same symptoms re-appeared with a week. This is a dangerous scenario and I feel unsafe in this vehicle especially when in certain driving situations like making a left turn in a window of oncoming traffic and not having the power to clear the intersection or lane. This has happened and thankfully no-one has gotten hurt,,,,yet! this car is only a month old and has 1000 miles on it. The first occurrence was on 7/18/2016 and is getting more frequent with time.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/21/2016

As I was returning from lunch to work on a local highway the transmission started to slip and act abnormal. From stopping at stop lights to running the vehicle at the posted speed limits I felt I was going to cause an accident because the car just accelerated and slowed down. The rpms of the engine increased and decreased during this time. I am now, very concerned with my/my family's safety and others on the road because of this. This needs immediate attention because my car has only 4,000 miles. There are other people in the Hyundai forums that are complaining about this issue, which may not be affecting all vehicles but it should be a major concern considering the accelaration and slowing down issues I experienced today. Once I gathered enough courage to continue driving despite the error message and check engine light (see photos attached of error message and check engine light) I immediately took it to my nearest Hyundai dealer. Since I couldn't wait for my car I had the dealer representative drop me off at work. The dealer called me back about 1. 5 hour later explaing that they reset the computer (whatever that means). I picked up my Tucson and it appears that resetting the computer did clear the error and the issue but I am extremely concerned for my life that this will happen somewhere on the highway since my normal home to work and back route has highways.

12 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/17/2016

When the vehicle is in drive and you are stopped at a light or waiting to make a turn and then you go to accelerate, the car acts as if it's in neutral or limps along. This only happens when the car is stopped and you go to accelerate from a stop. Clearly in my video, you can see that the car is at a stop, the car is in drive and this time the car didn't even move until the engine was producing 4500rpm's and then only achieved 7mph. It almost seems like the car has neutraled out or the gear is slipping. We took the vehicle to Hyundai two times concerning this issue, the first time the tech was able to reproduce our concern and they performed a 'relearn' on the transmission. The second time they weren't able to reproduce the problem and we were sent on our way as if everything was ok. This concern is dangerous and we are scared, literally terrified to drive this vehicle because I was almost t-boned while making a left turn through an intersection and vehicle didn't respond. Our concern is intermittent and Hyundai just sends us on our way as if nothing is wrong with the vehicle. If anything happens to me, myself or my family because of this vehicle, please investigate the powertrain. Hyundai has declined my request to repurchase or replace under the arizona lemon law. This vehicle is dangerous and now Hyundai is not helping to resolve this issue. I have a couple off videos showing the car demonstrating the concern. Please help.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

At seemingly random times, the transmission will slip completely out of gear and the engine will just rev but not move the car. Feels like the car is in neutral gear and just revving the engine. Almost got hit from a car as we pulled out to turn right from a stopped position at a stop light, pushed on the accelerator, and the car would not move at all. Just revved for about 5-6 seconds before finally going into a gear and moving the car. Very dangerous situation!! just went to the dealer to day to have it looked at and they said nothing was wrong and the car was "working as designed. ".

15 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2005 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/15/2005

The problem was discovered after a stop for fuel during a highway trip. There was no indication of trouble before we stopped for fuel. When we attempted to return to the road we found that the transmission would not engage in either a forward or reverse gear. After checking atm fluid and finding it correct we tried again and found same problem. We finally found that if we increased enginer rpm to approximage 3000 rpm the transmission would begin to engage in third gear with some slippage. The slippage continued until we reached the approximate speed for normal third gear. At normal highway speed the car operated normally but would never shift into 4th gear. We wre able to get home and to the dealer. They told us the transmission had failed and would need to be replaced. One week later after installation of the transmission we were told they did not like the sound of the power steering and would replace that component as well. Another week later we got our vehicle back. The dealer claimed they had not seen this problem nor had they been notified of this problem by other dealers. This occurred at 9500 miles.
