3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Airbag light: the airbag warning light in the dashboard is flashing. The reason I am bringing this up is because the owner's manual from Infiniti states that when the airbag warning light is flashing, it is possible that the airbags may not deploy if involved in a crash. I have searched on Infiniti and G35 forums and this appears to be a common problem among owners. It also appears as though Infiniti will not cover repairs even though this is a serious safety problem for owners of these vehicles. Luckily there has been no incident with my car yet and I intend to get it fixed so that I have my airbags operational in the event of a crash. I wanted to know what NHTSA recommends when I take my car into a an authorized Infiniti/Nissan service center? can I ask for the repair costs to be covered by Infiniti/Nissan since this appears to be a major safety issue rendering my vehicle unsafe to drive if left un-repaired. I have tried to do a soft reset of the system as described in a number of Infiniti/Nissan forums and while this initially helped about 12 to 18 months ago, the problem has resurfaced as flashing light has returned and the soft reset no longer works. 5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 06/29/2016

"takata recall" - when starting and driving the car, the seat belt/air bag light flashes consistently. This has been going on for more than a week. I took it to the Infiniti dealer on 7/2 and had a diagnostic performed at which time I was told it had to do with a previous recall and they were able to reset it. However when I started the car, the flashing light indicator for the seat belt/air bag came on again. I brought it to the dealer's attention and another diagnostic was performed and I was advised that I needed a new airbag and that I would be responsible for the charge. The airbag was never deployed, so I do not understand why I would be responsible for replacing or absorbing the cost. I need to know if this issue is associated to the takata recall and asked that you investigate and let us know if there is a recall for this vehicle. I am very concerned, worried and uncomfortable driving the car in this condition. Eagerly await your response on next step needed to rectify this issue.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 04/21/2016

I am the owner of a 2008 Infiniti G35 sedan. It has low miles (82,000) for the year and has been meticulously maintained at the dealership throughout its lifetime. Recently we had an issue with an airbag sensor failing resulting in the passenger airbag remaining off. In the event of a collision the airbag would not deploy and this could result in very serious bodily injury. A quick search on the NHTSA website shows that there is a recall for this very issue for my model year, however my specific vehicle was not included on this recall. This is a very unique failure and has happened to multiple people as evidenced on the complaints section of the NHTSA website. This is a systematic failure in manufacturing the vehicle and is putting customers in harm¿s way. I contacted Infiniti to discuss repairing the failure however I was told that Infiniti would not help us in any way. The representative, steven, I spoke with made the decision to put me and my family at risk in order to save money. He stated that he ¿carefully considered¿ all the facts of my case and would not step in and repair this crucial safety defect. I made him aware that this failure was unique and systematic and that it fits the description of the recall placed on other vehicles and that it poses a serious safety risk to myself and my family. Steven reiterated that Infiniti would not help us repair this issue and that my concerns were ¿noted¿. He then told me that I could take this concern up to the bbb or nhsta. It is apparent that Infiniti does not care what so ever about its customer¿s safety or wellbeing. Infiniti has chosen to put people at risk of severe bodily harm in order to save a few dollars. This is very disturbing news and has shaped my opinion about the company. I would urge the NHTSA to look into this because it is a known manufacturing defect.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

We are having a reoccurring problem of the front passenger seat airbag sensor not working. The vehicle has a light which illuminates when the passenger airbag is not "armed" for deployment. The first time we took it to the Infiniti dealership they said they could not replicate the problem. It continued to be a problem for us intermittently for over a year. My main concern was always that if we (my wife and I) were involved in a front end collision that the airbag may not deploy and she could be injured as a result. Finally, a couple weeks ago, the light came on again. We happened to be close to the dealership so we took it right over. My wife even recorded a video of the light being on while she was in the passenger seat. The dealership tried replacing the airbag control unit. It is basically the "brains" of the airbag system. A few days later we picked the car up, started driving home, and the "passenger airbag off" light came back on. We immediately went back to the dealership. They further explored the problem and told us that we would need to replace the bottom part of the front passenger seat. The seat is not covered under our extended warranty so it would cost us over $5900 (yes, that's right. . . Almost six thousand dollars!) to replace the seat. After doing some research, I have discovered that we are not alone in this problem. Infiniti recalled other G35s for the same problem! our vehicle was not produced during the period that the recalled vehicles were; same model year, just different manufacturing date. In addition, after looking at the NHTSA website I found that many other people whose cars were not part of the recall are having the same problem with the airbag sensor. I believe the airbag sensor is defective on many Infiniti vehicles. I just hope another recall is issued before someone is seriously hurt due to the airbag not deploying.

11 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

Took car in to have passenger airbag harness replaced per recall. While in the shop, a critical concern was noted that the driver airbag module and spiral cable failed and needed to be replaced at a cost to the vehicle owner of $1,434. Nissan customer service was contacted and refused to pay for the part replacement. The airbag light is illuminated on the dash and I was told that until the airbag parts are replaced, the airbag may not deploy in the event of a collision. It is my contention that Nissan should fix a known safety defect associated with its airbags and that a recall should also be placed on the driver side airbag for this model and year vehicle.

12 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

There was a recall for airbags on this vehicle on April 27, 2010. I purchased this vehicle about a month ago. The air bag light has been blinking every since day one, so I looked up the recalls and found that this was a problems. I also called infinity and they said the recall on this vehicle had been fixed and no further assistance will be given to this vehicle. I have read numerous complaints with this same matter, and believe that the problems has never been fixed by the dealer, unless they performed a partial fix to get the customer out of the door. This is a serious problem especially if this vehicle is involved in a crash and the air bag does not deploy and another innocent person may be killed by this ongong problem. If this happens, I am like the other complaints, I will seek legal action againt Nissan and infinity for their poor customer satisfaction as reported by so many other customers and nothing is being done.

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

The sedan has an airbag that does not work properly the airbag light flashes non stop on the vehicle and does not go away. L looked online and saw a previous recall on this issue and the problem still remains. I took it to the dealership to be told that it was my fault and they do not warranty safety issues anymore. They continues to print out a statement for $1000 dollars with a code b1134. Its a $35,000 dollar car it should not have "safety" issues. Maybe because it is to expensive to deal with or is a human life more expensive. The airbags are obviously not working properly and the fact that they want to charge me for an issue they need to resolve internally is not very good business practice or professional. I know of other consumers online that have had the same issue plenty of people online with complaints. Being its a safety issue this needs to be addressed ASAP. If I were to get into an accident and the airbag does not deploy I will take legal action. I have no issue with that just have an issue with Infiniti not taking responsibility. Thanks.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

While driving normally on the highway, the airbag indicator light on the dash came on and started to blink. After stopping and turning the car off and on, the light still blinks. Trying to perform an ecu reset, the blinking stops for about 1 minute and resumes. Took the car to the Infiniti dealership in palm springs, CA and was informed that the recall has already been applied to my vehicle. The problem still persists and I was informed that if I don't fix it, the airbags will not deploy in the event of a crash. If the recall has been applied, then the problem should not be happening.

15 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

I was almost a complete stop when I was rear ended. The impact was pretty hard, and the vehicle was ultimately a total loss. At the time of collision, my drivers side seat collapsed back on me almost to a full recline position. Due to this, my seat belt was completely loose, and felt as if I did not have one on. I slid down, and and my ankles were bruised on top, and my baseball cap flew off into the back seat. Also, the airbag did not deploy.

16 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

My car falls under this recall. . . Yet when I take it to the dealership, or look on line on their site. They will not honor the recall- will not fix my car!! what can I do about it? how can I get my car fixed. Below is 1 of 100 articles about it on the internet: Nissan is recalling 134,000 Infiniti G35 vehicles due to a defect in their airbag systems that could cause the safety feature not to deploy in an accident. The recall affects 2005 to 2006 models of the Infiniti G35 sedan and 2005 to 2007 models of the G35 coupe. According to the national highway traffic safety administration: “the wire harness connecting the belt tension sensor (bts) and the occupant detection sensor (ods) control unit under the front passenger seat can experience relative movement which can cause wear and oxidization of the terminals and may cause interruption of the signal. ” in other words, “the air bag may not deploy and could increase the risk of an injury,” explains the detroit news. “the automaker has not yet notified the feds of how the faulty wire harnesses will be fixed, but the official recall is now being announced, just two weeks after the potential problem was reported to NHTSA,” writes autoblog. Still, the detroit free press reports that Nissan spokesman colin price “said if a vehicle’s red air bag warning light had turned on, the owner can bring their car into their dealer for repair. ” some 2007 and 2008 G35 and g37 models have already been through a similar recall. Systems that detect whether a passenger is present in the front passenger’s seat and turn the relevant airbags on or off have proven problematic for several automakers. BMW and Hyundai have issued similar recalls for the same system in recent years. Owners with questions should contact the national highway traffic safety administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

17 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

The airbag light has been on in my 2003 infinity G35 since the beginning of the year. I have recently taken the car to a reputable repair shop, and was not pleased to find that in this condition the airbag will not deploy. I have since found that there was a recall for airbag malfunctions in the 2005-2008 infinity G35's. The 2003 infinity G35's were not included, but yet there are other 2003 G35 owners that have had with similar problems. Unfortunately, some of them were injured when the airbag did not deploy.

18 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 12/22/2010

Potential failure of passenger side airbag to deploy in the event of an incident. With adult passenger seated in passenger seat, the passenger side "airbag off" light illuminates indicating that the airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident. I have video of the problem that I shared with Infiniti of chantilly dealer that shows the light on with vehicle traveling at 60-65 miles per hour with adult passenger in seat. The light stayed on for 25-30 miles. Took car immediately to dealership next day. No resolution from Infiniti. This problem has occurred at least 4-5 times over the past 4 months.

20 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 07/07/2009

On July 7, 2009 our 2008 Infiniti G35 sedan (v1) was involved in a front end collision with the rear end of a non-moving truck (v2). Estimated speed was anywhere from 25-45 mph (speed limit of the road is 45mph). Police were called to scene. Ambulance was called for injuries to driver and passenger of v2. Driver of v1 declined treatment. Driver of v1 later complained of dizziness, neck pain. V1 was un-drivable and towed from the scene. Airbags did not deploy on v1. Upon review, a recall is in effect for the year, make and model of v1 for "lack" of airbag deployment. Upon contacting Infiniti to explore the recall issued in 2008 on v1, Infiniti reps stated that the VIN number of v1 was not included in the recall. Upon conversations with repair service and others, these persons were surprised that the airbags did not deploy, with the severity of the front end crash. Our concern is that the current state of v1 is unsafe for future operation and the reliability of the deployment of the airbags is uncertain.

21 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Infiniti G35

22 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 08/30/2007

On August 30, 2007, I was stopped at a red light in my 2004 Infiniti G35x and was struck from behind while stationary with my foot on the brake. The vehicle that struck me was traveling at a high rate of speed estimated to be in excess of 40mph. The impact crushed my rear bumper and trunk and drove my vehicle into the rear of the SUV stopped in front of me, crushing my front end and inducing deployment of the passenger air bag although there was no one occupying the passenger seat. However, the driver's side air bag did not deploy in this collision, and while the seat belt restrained me, my arm hit the steering wheel, and I suffered musculoskeletal injuries in this accident. The car has been deemed a total loss. Both the insurance appraiser and I have questioned whether a defect prevented the driver's side airbag from deploying. I have reported the incident to Infiniti.
