Like thousands of other G35s, my vehicle's radio and air conditioning controls have become unresponsive. The panel's light goes off and none of the buttons work. The air conditioning unit resets itself to 75 degreens and auto climate, which promptly ramps up and goes full blast, with no way to turn it off. This problem also drains the battery while the car is off. Before I was aware of this battery draining, I was at a gas station at midnight in the freezing cold, when the car would no longer start. I was never told about the problem by Infiniti, and they did have a recall for this but for a very small range of vins. According to my dealer, this is one of their most common jobs and non-warranty covered repairs will come up to $1300. Searching online reveals many threads with hundreds of posts about this very same issue. Apparently getting the repair may not solve the problem and it may resurface 3-4 months later. This should be recalled, as it could potentially be very dangerous. I'm lucky I don't live in an area where there is snow or freezing temperatures. You can get stuck out there with no battery.
The contact owns a 2003 Infiniti G35 sedan. The contact stated that the radio would fail intermittently and was draining the battery constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed for the failure nor repaired. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was notified who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 195,000.

Other engine functions and air conditioning controls are routed through the radio circuit board so when this fails, it presents a dangerous situation. When the radio system malfunctions, the air conditioner is set to maximum setting. Also in some cases, the malfunctioning radio results in battery drain. Infiniti previously issued a recall but the repaired radios also exhibit the same defect. I have contacted Infiniti and they decline any responsibility. Local Infiniti service manager states this is a well-known issue with Infiniti radios. Would like NHTSA to compile statistics to determine if Infiniti should implement an extended recall campaign.
