Infiniti G35 owners have reported 3 problems related to engine knocking noise (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I bought a 2005 Infiniti G35 last year and did not know about the oil consumption defect that the G35 has. I recently developed a knocking sound in the engine and when I checked the oil I noticed the engine was low on oil. I filled the car up with the 2 quarts of oil that was missing. I checked the engine, engine bay and also under the car to see if there was an oil leak present but there wasn't any. A friend of mine told me about the oil consumption that the car is known to have and to my surprise my car was consuming a quart of oil ever 500 miles.

The contact owns a 2003 Infiniti G35. The contact stated that the engine made ticking and knocking noises. Also, the vehicle idled too low as if it were going to shut off independently. The service engine soon indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the camshaft position sensor and valve timing control sensor failed due to an improper solder joint, and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.

At ~7,900mi, I took my G35 coupe 6mt to Infiniti dealership when I started hearing a knocking noise and noticed that the "check engine" light would come up every few times a week. I was called in 4 more times after that (every 1,000mi) specifically for oil-level testing. The dealership received an approval to replace the engine, and at 14,500mi, after just about 6 months, I drove out with a new one (10102-ac7m9). I was told to go easy for the initial 12-15k. After driving about 1000mi now, I am running low on oil. I just checked it myself. I plan on taking it to the dealership soon to record it formally. But this is not the only problem I am having, the new engine seems to be a lot louder and a bit sluggish too. . Yes. . Definitely not the ride I got used too!!.
