Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problems of the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Three problems related to brake drum wheel cylinder have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2003

1999 Jeep Cherokee - rear brakes occasionally lock up during/after wet weather. Not speed related. Rear brake cylinders replaced at 35k miles and 70k miles (June 2003). Remedy is to slowly pump brakes when stopping until locking-up no longer occurs.

2 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2003

Brake problems - rotors/calipers and wheel cylinders - all needed to be replaced.

3 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

Both rear cylinders had to be replaced twice within a month. Dealer notified, and kept replacing cylinders. Unable to locate cause of problem.
