In the last 3 weeks I start my 2015 Jeep Cherokee as usual, shortly after driving when trying to accelerate from a stop the battery light comes on and the dash says cannot switch gears unless in park. The car then stalls and I have to shift into park and restart ,the scary issue is that I am sometimes stuck and cant move until I can restart the vehicle. There is only 57,000 miles on this vehicle .

Vehicle stalls in traffic.

4 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

Approx. 4:45pm when the temperature was 117, I was parked, with the engine off, waiting to pick up my dog at the vet. I had just driven 15 miles to this location = 25 minutes. Waited over 20 minutes for dog to be brought to car. When ready to leave, car would not start, all service/dash lights come on. (had air, radio, lights} waited over 40 minutes and finally car started. Drove directly home, again the 15 miles in about 20 minutes, backed into driveway, put car in park (did not turn engine off), took dog inside. When putting car in reverse to put car in garage, car stalled out. This was twice in one day!! this has been happening for the last 2 years on very hot days. Why no research/recall on this stalling out issue??.

5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

I was at a red light trying to make a right turn. Suddenly, the car stalled. My steering wheel was also frozen that could not be turned anymore. The dashboard displayed "shift the gear to p". My steering wheel was also frozen that could not be turned anymore. After I did that, I was able to restart the car. This happened on a city street but still very scary due to stalling. I checked online and it seems there was a recall about stalling before, but I was not contacted by Jeep; and I did not send my car anywhere for this matter.

6 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2019

This has happened more times than I can count. It typically happens on the first start of the day. The car will run and then start running really rough for no reason and usually stalls out. Today it ran fine and stalled out a mile down the road. I attached some p codes to the complaint as well as they consistently come up with the issue. I've changed the spark plugs, the 2nd cylinder coil ignition start pack as that was one of the issues from the p codes. This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed. I'm taking this into a Jeep dealer on 11/22. If anyone else has the issue please let me know so I can find a solution. My car has stalled out in the middle of the road several times and then starts right back up after a few minutes like nothing is wrong. Images of the p codes are attached for reference.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2019

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude has stall out 3 times on me while driving on busy highways. I took the vehicle in for repair and was told this particular engine consumes oil at a fast rate and without any warning, when low, will stall unexpectedly. No warning, no oil pressure gauge alerts, car simple stalls. I am afraid the vehicle will stall and me and any occupant will be killed or seriously injured. I have notice the same complaint numerous times on line.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2019

The car stalled in the middle of the driving on 11/4. Jeep's doagnostics states there are engine issues specifically with the cams part which causes for the car to stall unexpectedley and cause major risk leading to accident and death. The engine was bought brand new and properly maintained. It is unacceptable for a 4-year old car/engine to fail with that short life span.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2018

My fiancee purchased a 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUV 4x4 (certified pre-owned w/ additional, extended warranty) one (1) month ago almost to the day of this incident report. While she was driving the vehicle very early in the morning (approximately 5-5:30am), the car became non-functional and the instrument cluster flickered with warning lights appearing. The car was in motion when this occurred with no outside forces or factors to cause this to happen. The engine completely shut off and the car stalled immediately, while still moving. The electrical was on and display worked, however; the car would not go at all. The car behind her had to slam on their brakes and luckily no accident occurred. Had it been any later in the day or on a busy, major highway; I fear it would have been much worse. We have now brought it to a dealership for diagnosis and they cannot get to the car for at least two (2) weeks with no loaner cars available. We were advised to call Jeep directly and go over the situation and they offered no help at all but to *potentially* reimburse rental costs while the car would be repaired (much later after the rental needs to be paid). This is our second Jeep and I am absolutely dissatisfied with this as this could have cost my fiancee her life and the life of others. We now do not know the best path forward and are trying to figure out a solution to either repair or replace the vehicle. Maybe legal action is required. For being "certified pre-owned" the level of trust has definitely been reduced if not lost completely. I hope this gets resolved soon and that Jeep really understands the severity of the issue. If a recall is necessary to prevent injury or death, please fix this and make it right. People buy these cars to be your customers - don't do wrong by them and risk their lives to prevent spending towards the resolution of a common problem.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2017

For the last two weeks, my 2015 Jeep Cherokee has been at an auto body shop to repair damage made from a break in. I have not driven my car since September 22nd. This morning, after finalizing the paperwork with the repair facility and paying a deductible, I was able to finally drive my Jeep again. Pulled out of the body shop's parking lot, onto a city street, drove not even a quarter of a mile and maybe a minute or so into the drive and the dashboard icon of the battery illuminated, the notification sound played, and the car slowed to a stop again. Also, the notification center displayed "shift to park". Luckily this time I stopped at a red light. I shifted into park, placed my hazard lights on, and waved the cars that were behind me to drive around. Made the attempt to restart twice with no such luck. The third attempt saw the car turn back on successfully. The repair facility that I left is thankfully a few miles away from the dealership in which I lease the Cherokee. I drove immediately to the dealer, placed the car in front of the service department, and walked in to discuss the problem with the service department. After talking with one member of the service department, he stated that he would try to squeeze the Cherokee in for some testing but couldn't guarantee it because there were many cars scheduled for service and only one person available to possibly look at my car. Finally, after a few hours in the customer waiting area, I was told that the Jeep was low on oil. And that the Cherokee along with the Chrysler 200, and another car that I cannot remember at the moment are designed to stall when the amount of oil becomes low. The service department employee said that this was a "european design safety feature" for the car. I kept the Cherokee at the dealership for them to continue to investigate this problem on this upcoming Monday the 10th of October.

Purchased the 2015 Jeep Cherokee in March. Have had issues with the transmission due to the recalls. The vehicle would slow and not shift properly, it would also lurch and stall and shift very clunky. 9/21 - had the recalls taken care of and was told it would solve the issues. 9/22 - driving on the freeway in stop and go traffic and the car suddenly lurches and then stops. The service transmission, check engine and emergency brake were all flashing. I almost got rear-ended and was in a serious accident. I had to turn the car off on the freeway to "reboot" it as it was stuck in a parked position but not powered off. 9/24 - en route to get the car serviced, I was on the freeway in traffic, it lurches and stopped again, this time causing me to rear-end the vehicle in front of me.

27 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

Transmission stalls alot and is very sluggish , really afraid to let my son ride in the Jeep because im scared we will get hit because you have no power to get out of the way. My Jeep always would not start today and when I tried cranking it the brakes felt like a rock and could not be depressed ,,, that could really cause a problem and get myself and others hurt if the brakes did that while driving , thank god I was not on the road this accured in my driveway. Scared to really drive this Jeep but I pay $940 a month and you would think this thing would run and drive and be safe but im now wondering about this and I have only had this Jeep since July 20 15 and it only has 1977 miles on it. Hope this info may help others.

29 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2015

I purchased a Jeep Cherokee 2015 on may 1st and started having trouble with the start/stop system on the 3rd. A passenger and I were coming to a stop and the vehicle completely shut off and stopped running. The control system, within the driver's panel, flashed start/stop system is unavailable, service start/stop system. I had to restart the car in the middle of the highway. It did this three times before we got home. The engine light also came on at this point. I did not drive it again until the next morning and hoped to make it to work and then take it to the dealer that afternoon. Well I shouldn't have done that. . . On the way to work, on the interstate, I started slowing down and the system did the same thing. As I sped up the gears starting sticking, the car was stalling and I finally had to pull over and restart the car. On the interstate!!! the car did this another four or five times before I made it to work and another three times before I got to the dealership. When I first arrived, they could not figure out the issue and no reprogaming fixed the problem. They did state that the car has a flash update (aka recall), which was not communicated to me when I purchased the vehicle. So finally today, Thursday, may 7th, (3 days later) Chrysler decided the car needed a brand new transmission. Wasn't the transmission brand new anyway????? this purchase has been very disappointing and I am really concerned about the safety of these vehicles. I really hope this new transmission fixes the problem. I also hope a serious recall is communicated to the public before anyone gets hurt!.

30 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2015

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee, and apparently hundreds or thousands of others from 2014 and 2015, have faulty transmissions. I needed a replacement at only 6000 miles and I've heard worse stories on various web sites. The new transmission is not much better yet Jeep/Chrysler refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem and continues to sell the cars. Someone seriously needs to look into this as someone is going to get killed when theirjeep stalls or just stops at highway speeds.

31 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2015

While decelerating in drive with the foot off the gas, or under light gradual braking, when the automatic transmission downshifts as the car slows between 25 and 20 mph, engine speed increases in the lower gear and the car accelerates slightly. This acceleration, with the foot off the gas and when one expects the car to be slowing down, though relatively mild, is nonetheless disconcerting and perhaps potentially dangerous. An appointment was made with the dealer for March 30 2015. Coincidentally, between the time the appointment was made and before the appointment, the customer received a mailed recall notice from Jeep regarding an upgrade to software for the nine-speed automatic transmission. On March 30 the dealer attempted the software upgrade and reported that when they test drove it, the transmission then would not function properly, and the car would only operate in "limp" mode. The customer was given a rental car. The next day, on March 31, 2015 the dealer notified the customer that consultation with Jeep and further diagnostics indicated two locking rings had broken or malfunctioned inside the transmission, and they were installing a new transmission. The customer also received a recorded message telephone call from Jeep on March 31, asking the customer to bring the car in for a transmission software upgrade. The new transmission is being installed.

32 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

For the past week my 2015 Jeep Cherokee has been at the dealership; continuous screen/radio malfunctioning/ unintended car acceleration/ computer system malfunction, etc. I was told by the service manager that they have no clue why my vehicle is not functioning correctly or accepting their several attempts to 'update' my vehicles system to correct the various problems. The manager went on to tell me how my car is "rejecting" the new part they tried to install. I did not know vehicles had the ability to 'reject' mechanical parts. He said they had to contact Chrysler to find out how to fix my vehicle; I truly thought the "Chrysler" dealership was Chrysler and mechanics there were trained to fix all of chryslers vehicles, shame on me. At this point I am truly afraid to drive the truck, especially with the Chrysler dealership not knowing how to repair the various problems with a 2015 model. I also noticed the Jeeps starting with 1c4pj seems to have all the problems. With Chrysler noticing it as well, why not just replace the Jeeps sold in that batch?.

33 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

The powertrain is frequently unresponsive and there is often a significant lag time between pressing the accelerator and receiving any response from the powertrain when trying to accelerate from a full stop. Sometimes the vehicle responds immediately but other times it feels as if it can take a full second or more for the vehicle to respond. While this is not a big issue when accelerating from a stop light, this has become a significant issue when making a left turn across oncoming traffic because the vehicle cannot be counted on to respond and begin accelerating in a timely manner. The dealership service has responded that problem may be my driving or my inexperience with the active assist ii transmission, but my previous car was a hybrid, I know about engines stopping at signals. Nevertheless, the car stalls less if I disable the active assist every time the engine starts, although not completely. The dealership said they reprogrammed the system but the problem still exists.
