Four times within the past two weeks the vehicle has shut off. Twice while turning into a busy intersection and twice while driving down the road. The vehicle instantly stalls and entire dashboard warning lights come on. Car takes 5-20 min to restart. There's no burning smell or sputtering/stalling when car shuts off. It is dangerous and almost was involved in accidents when stalling turning into a busy intersection.
Driving down the road not even 2 miles from home the car just shuts off. Only warning was a the auto start/stop warning light on the instrument panel. Was able to coast to the a atop sign with no power steering or power brakes. Before coming to a complete stop the car started up again once I sat for a min or two. I didn't get 1 mile from that stop sign when the car died again. Same warning light. This is could have been deadly had I made it to the interstate and it stalled there. This has happened more times than I can count. It typically happens on the first start of the day. The car will run and then start running really rough for no reason and usually stalls out.
While driving vehicle on highway at 55 mph dash lights start blinking on then off several times. As I lifted my foot off the accelerator the vehicle completely shut off right in the middle of the highway! I shifted into neutral and restarted engine. Then as I stopped at a red light the engine shut off again while auto start /stop was disengaged as I restarted the auto start stop light came on and vehicle started. I continued to drive the vehicle. As I drove the dash lights continued to flash on and off, now the engine light came on and will not go out? the vehicle is a safety hazard to both my family and other motorists, as to the fact that the engine shuts down at will with out notice or warning of any type. Thank you please help me I do not want to die from a crash because of this problem!.
Was driving down road and car shuts down and says must be in park to shift then traction light engine light battery/alternator light comes on have to pull over turn car off take key out put back in let in try to turn over a few times then will start I will be going anywhere from 30-60 mph and it does it I take it to dealer can't find the problem due to it not happening in there possession.
While driving the car will shut off completely, locking the steering wheel and rendering the brakes and the gas ineffective. . . The first time I was driving 65mph on the freeway and it shut off. Luckily there was no one on the road, I was able to coast to a stop, shift to park, and restart the engine. . . It proceeded to happen multiple times, no matter how fast I was driving.
As I am driving my car stahl's and everything shuts off. This typically happens as I am making a turn. This typically happens as I get closer to the date of my next oil change. The car shuts off completely and I must coast to a stop. After waiting about a minute I can restart the engine. This is a very dangerous situation as I am typically turning to cross traffic.
I was driving on interstate and stepped on brakes because cars were slowing down when I began to brake the engine shut off. Message said shift to park and start engine. Cars were honking. I did what it read and it took seconds but turned back on. It took some explaining to the dealership after my personal research in waiting room for 4 hours. They found the codes?? it happened again but more seriously on a toad with traffic moving I stepped on brakes to make a left turn but it turned off! cars slammed on their brakes. I did what message said it took longer this time. I pulled into a parking lot and it turned off again when I stepped on brakes to park. I can't get a dealership to help me?? tomorrow I'm going back to the original service department that found the codes in January. This is scary.
While in motion, the vehicle shuts off without warning. A message on the dash says put the car in park to start. The car consumes large amounts of synthetic oil, which should last up to 6 months but only lasts between 700-1000 miles per quart. The oil light does not come on indicating that the oil is low. It flashes across the screen too fast for the driver to see the warning. When the oil is low, the car begins to shut itself off while in motion. This has happened while driving at both high and low rates of speed on city streets and a highway during rush our traffic, nearly causing a collision with vehicles behind me.
While driving on Sunday my Jeep suddenly without notice or warning shut off and would not restart, I was stranded in middle of the road since there was no warning I had no time to pull to side. Aaa towed to clark Chrysler/Jeep where it was bought and under extended warranty. All pm's have been done there and done timely. What they found was Jeep was down 3 qts of oil, I asked how that could be and why would engine shut off so abruptly they claim the 2. 4 engines use 1qt per 1,000 miles, that no indicator or warning comes on and engine will shut off to protect it. No where is it listed in owners manual, I have been in automotive for over 30 years and if an engine burns a qt per 1,000 you rebuild or buy a new engine, I am now told I must check and add oil every 1,000 miles on a 2015 with only 42,000 miles! safety concern is if anyone is on highway it could cause death with a sudden stoppage of vehicle, I was left in the middle of of a country road and aaa had police come to help block me from traffic passing around me, I never heard of anything like this so I called Jeep and melisa on their consumer line confirmed with service tech ian hogan and told me that she is told it happens and there is no warning , how can Jeep think this is safe without at least notifying owners to be aware?.
The vehicle shut off when driving. After calling a Jeep dealer and asking if they where having any trouble like this. I also informed the dealer that the Cherokee had 36500 miles 500 over covered warranty. I was informed the the work would not be covered so I took it to a local garage. Was told it needs a thermostat. Had to call a dealer after several attempts to locate the part. All the dealer said the part is on national back order. If the part is that popular to replace that you cant keep it in stock than there most be an issue. This vehicle is not safe if this part is causing the motor to shut off when driving down the road at highway speed. Their seems to be a lot of trouble with this vehicle. I hope Chrysler will not just let the issue go hoping that people just deal with it there self. Been to the garage 3 times and still have 5 years to pay for it. It is enough of a problem that I thought I would take this step. Called Chrysler customer service first time was disconnected before I could type my massage. Second time was told they could put a rush on my part gee thanks. How about just make a vehicle that will not get someone killed by shutting of on the highway. Thank you edward mastowski.
Car just randomly shut off in middle of a 50 mph highway, almost caused accident. It did it a couple more times before I got it looked at. Dealer said it was so low on oil it shut off. But dealer also confirmed oil was not low enough to trigger the warning light and also explained it has been happening frequently with my model.
This problem has happened 5 times last time the car shut down was on the highway with my granson in car I was teriffied.
Transmission was jerking and locked up when I got in my car in the morning the vehicle would not get out of the parking break. I would get tons of error messages in my instrument cluster. . . "service park break" "4x4 unavailable" "transmission light on". I called roadside assistance to tow my car and the tow truck driver when he turned off and on the vehicle, it was ok to drive. I drove to the dealership that day and they performed tons of software updates. My Jeep was returned back to me the same day. 6 days later, it happened again. I remembered restarting the car helped, which it did, so I started driving it back to the dealership. I got about 1/4 mile down the road and the steering wheel locked up and started to shut down, while I was driving! I pulled over, restarted the car and continued to drive. This time I was in the middle of an intersection making a left turn when it happened again, and almost got rear ended by a school bus!! this was a very scary moment and decided I was no longer going to drive this car. I pulled into a parking lot and called roadside assistance. The dealership had the vehicle for a week and told me it was fixed. I received a recall in the mail, "s55 - transmission may shift unexpectedly to neutral". I called Chrysler and told them I refuse to drive my call until this recall is fixed. The part is not available so I've been driving a rental for the past 3 weeks. I'm terrified to drive this car again. I drive on the expressway everyday for work and can not imagine what would happen to me if the car shuts down again unexpectedly.
Engine shuts down stalls out while driving no warning on roadways freeways no power steering or brakes serious injury or death could be a result.
I was traveling on a major highway at 65 mph when the engine shut off. I put the Jeep's transmission in neutral and it would not start. I was able to pull to the right side of the road safely since it was very light traffic. I tried starting the Jeep with the transmission shifter in park and nothing happened. I removed the key fob from the start/run switch and tried locking & unlocking the car doors, and nothing happened. I tried the remote start button, and again, nothing happened. My wife gave me her key fob and the Jeep started right up and ran okay. There were no lights on the dash showing any problems. When I got to my destination after another 10 minutes of travel I tried my key fob again and the Jeep started okay. I used my key fob on the return trip of 67 miles with no problems. There is an unknown cause of the incident. Could it be the key fob or the electronics that control engine running mode?.
