Three different types of shifter-transmission issues in approximately 6 months of normal in-town and freeway driving. 1. Service shifter warning came on suddenly on a level, dry pavement on cruise control at 70mph on the freeway (17k miles on vehicle) one month, after it happened at 15mph on dry, straight, level pavement in the city and was taken to the dealership and told nothing, was wrong. Turning the vehicle off and on again eliminates notification. The service department at Jeep dealership notified of the 2nd incident which happened today, and I have an appointment next week to have it checked. 2. Shifter popped out of drive suddenly while driving on dry, flat, straight at 35 mph city street (15k on vehicle) into neutral. Had my hands on the wheel and did not bump it. Would not go easily back to park or drive. This happened approximately one month before service shifter incidents. 3. Going through a car wash in neutral at the end when the vehicle had rolled off the conveyor and was stopped I attempted to put it into drive and vehicle revved to a high rpm but did not engage into drive. I had to put into park, shut it off and then turn it back on again to get the vehicle to go into drive. This happened at approximately 5k-10k miles on two separate occasions.
The vehicle was in motion. Just cranked it and pulling out of the parking lot at a target in huntsville alabama. The car shifted hard and I heard a pop. I stopped at the end of the row to pull out. I heard another pop while turning into the bottom parking lot road. I made it to the highway not hearing another pop. I made it to the red light and the car lost power to the transmission. I coasted into a parking lot. The car would not engage in forward or reverse. The car would power up and all other functions worked.
Transmission sticks - after you are stopped and then apply the gas, the transmission does not properly engage and when it does, it then "launches" you. Transmission does not properly downshift - you will remove your foot from the gas to start slowing down and it slows for a brief second and then surges. Repaired with a computer reprogram on 5/1/18 and the problem remains. Jeep is well aware of these transmission issues in these vehicles and refuses to recall or to find a repair to fix the issue. There are literally thousand of owners with the same issue who have made the issue known to Jeep. I'm concerned for my safety when I drive the vehicle. I have owned the vehicle since September 2017 and it only has 4150 miles. I have filed a concern with Jeep corporate and there is nothing that they can do for me.
