1 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/23/2020

I pulled into a parking space in front of ace hardware on main street in east islip new york. I put the car in park. As I took my foot off the brake the car continued moving forward and hit a stack of wheelbarrels in front of the hardware store. It damaged my license plate on the front end of the car the license plate bracket and put a significant crack in the paint on the front bumper. I have also noticed that at other times when I put the car in park and take my foot off the brake the vehicle moves forward or backward as much as 2 inches after being put in park. This occurred on June 23rd 2020.

2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/25/2020

Vehicle was in motion when it left the road. I swerved to miss a dog. I had my seatbelt on during this accident however my head (top, right front of my head) hit the windshield glass and the glass broke/shattered. My hair was caught in the broken cracks of the glass on the windshield and my hair was pulled out of my head, I guess when the seatbelt pulled me back into position it managed to keep my hair lodged. I got small pieces of glass out of my scalp for a week. I had other injuries as well. Every single airbag of this car was deployed and my vehicle a total loss. I was only going around 45 mph. I am thankful to be here sharing this passage. I just have tried to figure out how I managed to hit the windshield while my seatbelt was on my body and the airbags deployed.

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/08/2019

This is my 2nd complaint since the transmission issue on 8/6/19 (tracking #11242090). I have not received an update regarding that issue. I followed up with the manufacturer who informed me that my VIN was not associated with the recall. On 8/7/19, I had the dealer perform a diagnostic test and they found that my SUV required a software update on the transmission and powertrain. The same recall affecting the 3. 2l but not issued to my VIN. On 9/8/19, my SUV began surging multiple times when I was in idle at city stoplights and died when in shifted into park three times within an hour. The only indication of an issue on my dashboard was the battery light that came on once the car died. The dash and radio continued to perform fine but the engine shut off with the key still in the ignition. I had the battery tested on 8/06/19 along with the alternator and terminals and they were at 100%. The battery was new when purchased 11/2018. I'd like to resolve this issue in order to feel safe driving this vehicle. I can provide further documentation from the dealer bayside Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 10535 automall parkway, d'iberville, ms 39540 or it can be requested from them directly.

4 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/09/2019

5 Carrier/rack problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/29/2018

Panoramic sunroof exploded outward - at 5:15 am, I was just starting to get on the on ramp to the freeway. I was not up to freeway speed yet. Weather conditions were good and approx. 61 degrees. As I was driving on the onramp I heard a loud explosion that freaked me out so bad I was thankful I did not crash. I pulled to the side of the road all tires were fine. All surrounding windows were fine. I had the sunroof barrier closed so I didn't even think about the sunroof until I heard chards of glass beads on the barrier. I pulled to the side of the freeway in the dark and gradually opened up the barrier to the sun roof a little. I could see that almost the entire pane of the back part of the panoramic sunroof had shattered making a huge gaping hole. I turned the car around and went home. If it was a rock or something was dropped on it the rock still would have been there on the barrier. The sunroof literally bows upward and it cracked at the seams so you can see it has definitely blown out. This is a manufacturer defect that could have caused an accident or worse if the barrier had been open and the glass had shattered on me. It is obviously made of safety glass. The explosion was very loud and ear piercing.

6 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/12/2018

I first experienced what felt like my transmission wasn't shifting properly right away. I noticed it in lower gears. I took it back to the dealership and they said everything was fine. I then started to experience my engine randomly stalling. I would be going slow and I was usually taking a right turn. I went to turn on my car and it said engine failure. I called the dealership and they said to tow it to them. I received a call that the reason my car ahut off was because there wasn't any oil. I have all my records and my oil had been changed at a dealership less than two weeks prior. So they put oil in it and said I was fine. Within a week my car died turning right on rail road tracks in an instersection. We had to have a police officer come and push us off the tracks and wait for us to get towed. The dealership told my there was a harness that needed to be replaced and it would cost $700! they said that he harness was under my hood when I did research it was discovered that it was in my trunk. They said it needed to be replaced due to water damage. In my trunk? I did research and found this harness was a common issue but it didn't have anything to do with the issues I was having. Now it is a year later and we are having the same issue. My service lights will turn on randomly. My engine stalled on the highway going 70 mph. I am at a loss what to do. My two year old has been in the car with me when this happens and I just want to know my car is safe to drive.

Ordered a windshield back on 12/20. It still isn't in!! I feel this is a safety factor and I have 2 case numbers with Jeep and they still don't have a windshield. Every time they say it's due to be in, the date changes. My daughter drives this car and it is cracked all the way across.

9 Carrier/rack problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

10 Carrier/rack problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/24/2016

Back window broke. No idea where it came from or how it started as I was sitting in my home and the car was parked outside. The car is not even a year old. Two holes on the sides of the back window at first. The window was cracked across the window, could still hear it cracking when I saw. Then the next morning the top half of the window was cracked. Is this a defect?.

11 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2015

On 1/30/15 while clearing snow off my 2014 Cherokee, the wiper snapped back and left a major crack in my windshield that goes from edge to edge, and almost all the way up as well. The impact was not that forceful at all. I have now been waiting 26 days for a replacement as of today. On Saturday 2/21/15 I spoke with somebody at a Chrysler factory in detroit and they say they have over 900 of these particular windshields on backorder and may not be available till April. Sounds to me like if they have that many backed up, there must be a fault or defect in the design or manufacture of this particular windshield. It has a built in wiper DE-icer. Only that one is not available, the windshield without that option is available. But since this an option I paid extra for, I want it back. Again, is there any word on this being an ongoing issue? are these windshields defective, and is this recall material?.

12 Carrier/rack problem of the 2012 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

I was washing my car in my driveway while I was washing my car everything was fine. As I started to dry all of a sudden there was a large crack on my windshield starting from rear view mirror. I know I was leaning on the top of my car to wash and dry but I know I'm not large enough or strong enough to make this crack. I never leaned on the windshield ever. After reading other people's concerns with this situation I could have leaned on the car and added more pressure to an already pressure point to the vehicle. I called the dealer and spoke with a manager and he just said perhaps a rock I mentioned I would go over and show him. I took it to the dealer and they found no chip or anything that may have been the cause. I was told they would talk about it and let me know. I want to know one dealer had 75 windshield on back order. Perhaps this was a manufacturer defect and they are trying to sweep it under the carpet. Thank you for your time. Rick.

13 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

Windshield crack due to stone being thrown up at highway speed. Took approx. 10 days to get a new windshield. During this time the windshield crack grew and went down into the heated part of the windshield. In the Cherokee the heated windshield is automatically on as long as the car is running. When the crack went into the area of the heating coil within the windshield it caused a short in the windshield creating an arc of red hot electricity. This in turn caused the windshield to heat up, melting my windshield wiper blade. There is no way to turn off this heated windshield and there is no software redundancy to recognize the problem and turn off this circuit. The car has to be turned off and cannot be driven to a dealership for repair. To do so would jeopardize the entire vehicle and occupants. A big fire could ensue. To be fair, Jeep has been notified. However, I thought you should know about this as this feature is being used by many manufacturers and there could be serious consequences as a result of fire.

14 Carrier/rack problem of the 1986 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

I bought the car and drove it home on November 13, 2013 with the intentions of making a vehicle to use in the winter for bad weather or very bad snow. Here are issues I face. The speedometer goes crazy once I reach speeds over 35mph. It goes well pass the 85mph mark and back down to 15mph and bounce all between. The vehicle is so out of alignment its dangerous. All the floor boards have been rusted through all the way back to the seats. The front passenger floor board is 1/2 missing, and all floor boards are extremely week. The driver side has a pop-riveted floorboard in and is very strong but the bottom has been rusted through showing the bottom of it,and the sides have rusted through wholes. When I sat in the drivers seat to replace the radio,I was forced to remove the carpet to install a new ground. Part of the floorboard fell out cutting very deep into my leg. The floorboards were bearing my weight with no added force whatsoever. When I removed the rest of the carpet I was distraught to see how rusted the floor panels were and to what extent. I inspected the entire vehicle closer, and discovered the frame is in very poor shape and rusted through also. The whole exhaust from the bottom of the headers to the very back of the exhaust, has been rusted and the muffler broke off just behind the passenger seat right in front of the catalytic converter and muffler. On the way the frame in the rear near the gas tank,is rusted through and the bottom portion of the frame where the towing brackets are bolted on has broke and peeled like a banana and hangs loose separated from the main frame by at least 1/4" - 1/2". Very poor craftsmanship in the making of an offroad vehicle like this. I am a certified welder and weld professionally but this will take a month to repair and thousands of dollars. I can not do anything with the vehicle until these safety issues are addressed.

16 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The door handle was made with cheap plastic and came completely off on one door. I have 3 kids, this is a huge safety concern if there is an accident they will not be able to get out. All 4 door handles have a crack in the handle ready to break off at any moment that is visible to anyone who looks at the door.

17 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

The rear door handle on the drivers side broke. It cracked and the problem now is you cannot open the door. This is a definite safety hazard. The replacement part is $530 or you can get a kit for $150. The installation is $102. Why would there be a kit being produced if there wasn't a major problem? I spoke to Chrysler customer care and they will not do anything. There are numerous complaints on the internet regarding this issue on the 2005 and 2006 Jeep grand Cherokees. From what I heard from fields in sanford the dealer the manufacturer sold inferior parts. Right now only one door is broken but I expect it will happen to the other 3. That particular door is rarely used so it was obviously defective. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

18 Carrier/rack problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

As with many other xj owners, my cylinder head is cracked due to the defective 0331 head. I bought the Jeep about 3 years ago, and about a year ago coolant started leaking into the oil. I talked with several mechanic friends and the head fleet mechanic at work told me the cracked head is extremely common. I was stranded on the side of the road, had to have the vehicle towed, and it sits as a giant paperweight in my garage as I cannot afford a new engine. I bought the vehicle with 122000 miles and have never taken it off road, modified it, or traveled more than 60 miles in a day. It has never overheated until the head cracked. Now I am looking at an enormous bill that my family cannot afford. I fail to see how so many vehicles can be affected and there is still no recall.

19 Carrier/rack problem of the 2004 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/06/2011

Plastic surrounding door handles cracked. First incident was on right rear door. I assumed my child was playing roughly. Soon after a similar crack appeared in the front door on the drivers side. Next came the front passenger door and now all four door panels have cracks in the plastic surrounding the door handles. The left rear door can not be opened from the inside and the right rear door does not open consistently. I expect it to fail completely soon. While reviewing Jeep message boards I found a lot of people with 2005-2010 Jeeps have experienced similar failures. My dealer, bob baker Jeep in carlsbad CA, says the doors are not covered and suggested replacing the entire panel on each door.

20 Carrier/rack problem of the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Spare tire mounted on left side blocks view of driver. Should be on right side of vehicle behind driver. This is a rhd vehicle used for mail delivery. Have almost hit 2 cars that were blocked from my view by the tire. Chrysler said the right panel will not hold the spare and the only options are to lay the tire down on the floor or purchase a roof rack and mount it on the roof.

21 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

It is not possible to secure loads to the roof rack, the tie-down holes are not drilled all the way through the slide rails, it is too short, and the crossbars cover the tie down holes when spread to the last position at each end, consumer states his previous 1993 Cherokee had tie down holes that were drilled all the way through the slide rails where he was able to properly secure loads with no problem.

22 Carrier/rack problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Owners manual stipulates that "end caps should not be used as hold downs. Tie down holes are provided at the front and rear ends of the slide rails. " the tie down holds are not usable because the holes do not go all the way through slide rails.
