While driving less than one mile from my residence, my 2014 Jeep Cherokee suddenly displayed a warning related to shifting, followed immediately by a complete loss of engine power. The vehicle shut off without warning while in motion. At the time of the incident, the dashboard displayed the messages: “shift to desired gear” and intermittently “service shifter. ” I was able to safely maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road; however, this incident has now occurred multiple times, consistently in the same general location and under normal driving conditions. The sudden loss of power creates a serious safety hazard, particularly given the lack of warning and potential for this to occur in higher-speed traffic conditions. This issue appears consistent with known problems involving the transmission wiring harness and shifting system in this vehicle model. Immediate investigation and corrective action are warranted to prevent potential accidents or injuries.

I was driving on the highway going approximately 75mph, everything was 100% normal. All of a sudden, and at once, my steering wheel started to shake, the car lost power/acceleration and speed quickly dropped. The engine was making loud noises. We pulled over, called my mechanic I've had for 35yrs. We were able to get the car to the garage driving very slowly, it wouldn't go above maybe 30mph. My mechanic initially did a diagnostic test which indicated issues with coils??after further investigation he, and 2 of his fellow mechanics determined it was a much more serious issue that has resulted in a total malfunction of the motor. I bought my car in 2021 with 46,740 miles on it, it currently has 84,756 miles. I still owe $4349. 63, 1yr left on my loan. My mechanic said he is aware of a number of recalls on Jeeps . I looked up my VIN bought found nothing. Similar issues, but nothing with that VIN.

When going over bumps such as speed bumps or bumps in the road there has been a clunking noise and sometimes a grind, for a few seconds. With this the abs light also comes on. Then goes off. This has went on for the past 6-7months. Its not every time,it is very random. It will do it and not again for a while. On 3/16/26 the svc fwd warning light came on while driving. After restarting it it takes about 30seconds and it comes back on and stays on until the vehicle is shut off. There has been a couple times the vehicle has hesitated to go forward when the gas was pressed. I have taken it to an auto shop and they found code: c14a7-97 for ptu failure. They recommended to contact Jeep since there is a recall for that year. When the dealer checked my VIN it does not fall under the recall. I am afraid of driving it as I don't want it to stall on me or cause an accident as I usually have my young child with me. The shop said it would be around $6000 to repair. If not under the recall.
The systems that failed included the shifter, which causes the car to lock so that it cannot shift out of park . This is most likely due to a shifter assembly and/or sensor malfunction. Several months prior to this event occurring (I. E. , the car would not start, despite a new battery and consistent scheduled maintenance), this operator of the vehicle complained to the dealership that the car started to feel tremulous, along with the gas gauge reading 30-40 miles below the expected fill on a full tank. The dealership "checked the sensors" and determined nothing was wrong. The driver has been noticing shaking and continued problems with this vehicle shifting in and out of lower gears (1st through 3rd in an automatic v6 engine). The culmination is now this car will not start, and states both 'service shifter' and 'brake sensor service' lights illuminate upon attempting to start the engine. From reading, it is likely to have a transmission range sensor failure, a faulty shifter module, or wiring corrosion. Also, stellantis (software manufacturer for these sensors) has admitted fault of these sensors in the past, and had extended warranties for some, but not all vehicles. Unable to operate a nonfunctioning vehicle now stuck with towing to a dealership I've not had good results with since the purchase of this vehicle.

The service 4wd light is on in this vehicle. Upon taking it to my personal mechanic to fix the issue, it was determined that the code was associated with a recall. This recall did not include my VIN number but is a safety recall on other vehicles. When calling Jeep/Chrysler to determine my next steps, I was advised to bring the vehicle to a dealer as they could not accept anything from my personal mechanic. My vehicle was dropped off at a dealer who then reached out and wanted to charge me $350 just plug the vehicle in for the code. Upon calling again, I was advised that I would have to incur the entire cost to have the issue fixed and if it was determined that my vehicle would be included in the recall at a later date I could submit receipts and be reimbursed. The code is ptu failure related and could cause possible loss of power to the wheels. This is a major safety concern as well as a huge expense to fix. The vehicle is available at any time for inspection. Please advise what my next steps and if I can be offered goodwill assistance as I do not want to incur a $2000 - $4000 expense for a known recall based on identical failure.

Component: power transfer unit (ptu) [xxx] , but my VIN is not included. The power transfer unit has failed. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those listed under the recall. I am requesting immediate inclusion and repair under the recall provisions. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Power transfer unit stopped working. Brakes locked up and car would not move. Is not drive-able at this time. Currently at a dealership awaiting part, of which there is no eta on. I was just entering a roundabout when the part failed, and I could have been hit as the vehicle fully stopped and could not be moved. There was a grinding noise and no warning prior of this part failing. The problem was confirmed by a local mechanic who recommended a Jeep dealership to take care of the issue as the part may be under warranty. I am unsure of who inspected the part currently. This is my primary vehicle and the dealership will not "cover" a loaner car so I am stuck.

I took my vehicle to a dealership in response to the recent recall for the ptu unit. They simply "updated software" and claim the error code indicating ptu issues was not present and therefore are not required to replace the part. My vehicle has the textbook "symptoms" as directly outlined on the first recall notice (before a remedy was available) and the second notice; noise, service 4wd notification, and jolting while driving. I explained my car is still making a noise and that I do not understand how software can fix a mechanical issue. I then contacted fca, they said they would escalate my concern and would get a response but I never heard back. Ive read multiple reports that Jeep always uses "software updates" as their fix, and that software updates can actually mask mechanical issues, which seems kind of sleazy that they will not replace the recalled part especially when relative issues are happening and if it does fail entirely while driving, it could be very dangerous. It was my understanding that manufacturers are required to replace anything recalled, regardless of whether its faulted. Im scared to drive my car, this feels like Jeep is being negligent.
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk. The service 4wheel drive light keeps popping u. A recall needs to be put on this year, make and model. Its a known issue that Jeep has not addressed at all.
For several months I've received "service 4wd" notifications in my car and I have noticed it has difficult getting up hills specifically if there is any snow/even rain. I brought it in for repair and was told it was the transfer case assembly (ptu) which is a very common issue they've seen with these Jeeps. I told them to go ahead and order the part to fix it. About a week later the service person was told that Chrysler corporate would not release the part because it was or would soon be a recall and they will only release it to the dealers to handle the recall (I understand there are only about 100 of the part available at this moment). I called 2 dealers and it is not appearing as a recall (yet) for my Jeep so they said they could not do anything and gave me the corporate number. Corporate said to reach out here or talk to the dealership again. It is clear that this is an issue for many and should be a recall. At this point, I am just trying to get my car fixed and I can't even get the part because it is in this "almost" recall stage.
My car suddenly started making a loud noise while driving and one day , I was driving to work and my car started to lose power it won’t accelerate even thoe I was trying to accelerate my car was slowing the speed down and I had to return to my house with emergency lights because my car won’t accelerate . The next day I took my car to a collision center and they changed some of the old car parts . I’m trying to submit a reimbursement for this recall but the website won’t let me submit the form along with the invoice I attached to the reimbursement request .
The light came on that says cannot move vehicle, it just stopped. The power transfer unit went out--I cannot get a part since it is backordered over 1200 people right now are having issues with the part of the vehicle.

To whom it may concern, I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2017 Jeep that is currently under recall for the power transfer unit (ptu). I experienced a very frightening situation while driving in traffic when my vehicle would not properly stay in place, and I had to keep firm pressure on the brake to prevent it from rolling back into traffic. If I had not reacted quickly, this could have resulted in a serious accident or injuries. I have been informed that this issue is related to a serious recall involving the ptu, which can cause loss of power and rollaway risk. However, I have been told that there are no parts available yet and no timeline for when the repair will be completed. I am extremely concerned about continuing to drive a vehicle with a known safety defect. This is my third Jeep, and I recently paid this vehicle off. I depend on it daily for my job, to get my little girl to school. I am very thankful that this situation was not worse, but it easily could have been. I should not have to worry about my vehicle rolling into traffic due to a known recall issue. I have contacted Jeep recall representatives regarding this matter and was informed that no loaner vehicle would be provided and that if I needed alternate transportation, I would have to pay out of pocket. I do not believe it is reasonable for consumers to bear additional financial burden when the vehicle has a known safety defect under recall. I respectfully request that this matter be investigated and that action be taken to ensure repairs are made available as soon as possible to protect myself and other drivers on the road. Sincerely, whitney phillips.
Tacoma Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram at address: 4101 s tacoma way, tacoma wa 98409 the service provider (andrew) has said his boss is telling him to have the vehicle moved and putting the responsibility on us at our own expense. We opened a case us customer care recall department case #[xxx] is pressuring us to move our 2017 Jeep at our own expense. It is inoperable and will not drive due to a safety recall that has been open for over 1 year without a remedy. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was driving down the interstate in the mountainous region of montana. While coming down the hill, I lost all power in my vehicle. My car continued to slow down, unable to accelerate. I had multiple warnings/things flash across my screen that identified that I no longer had access to them. After about 30 minute or more of driving slower and slower, able to initially go 30 mph, then it continued to decrease. I was maybe to go 10 mph up a hill to try to get to the next town. I inched my way to the dealership to drop my car off. I know there is a recall on my vehicle for something related to power however in the past year, every time I take it to dealer, they say there is nothing available to fix it. I now have no vehicle and I could have easily been hit from behind during the time where I continued to lose power in the vehicle. It was a terrifying feeling to know I could be stranded on a mountain road with no cell service, etc. If there is something wrong with a vehicle because of manufacture errors, then they need to do something ASAP or provide me a new car immediately for my safety and well being. If the whole 2019 model of Jeep is an issue, then provide me a new vehicle. This is not the first issue I had with this car. Early on after purchasing it, my dash lights would all disappear while driving down the road. No speedometer, nothing. The area where the radio and other communication is at, got so hot that one could not even touch it. They did eventually replace whatever caused that problem but that was a safety issue as well. Last year I was in a car accident because I stepped on the gas to go, and there was nothing and then all of a sudden it took off and by then the car in front of me stopped. This is when I realized there is a significant problem with the power of the car. The dealer said it was probably related to the recall but don't have a way to address it.
I previously reported a safety issue with my vehicle and have not received a response. My complaint number is 11709360. Issue still remains and no recall is associated to my VIN number yet, even after locating a recall for my vehicle make, model and year when researching on line.
Transmission was replaced at 20k miles it has still continue to stall while driving causing hard shift and stalling in the middle of the road almost causing accidents.

Ptu failure needs replacements. . . 4k to fix. Safety issue and should be a recall.
Shifter module problems. . The car jerks hard between shifts. The car reversing on it own and wont stop. Warning light in dash "service shifter soon".
Bought car, got 4wd not available light on dash, got car "scanned" at multiple outlets and there is no "code". Took to local mechanic and he diagnosed it is the ptu (power transfer unit) and told me there was a factory recall. Contacted Jeep dealership, told them of the problem, they said my vehicle is not included in the warranty but they would diagnose for me. They did and told me it will be $3,000 to fix, but that is "if" they can get the part. Told me they located the part at 2 other dealerships, but those locations won't sell the part to them. They said they are trying to get the part, but it is on back order. When I called to check they said they still haven't been able to get the part, but won't give me any concrete information about when they can fix it.
My 2019 Jeep was serviced for a 4x4 system warning light on the dashboard. At the dealership they explained my vehicle is experiencing an issue with the transfer case, power transfer unit. After this recommendation, I took this vehicle to another reputable mechanic who found the same issue, but then advised me this vehicle has a recall for this (ptu) power transfer unit issue. Upon reviewing the VIN with another dealer they state no recall has been issued for this vehicle. I was told some of these vehicles may have been built with an improperly seated input shaft snap ring in the two speed power transfer unit. Furthermore, the input shaft snap ring that is not fully seated may allow uncontrolled movement of the input shaft inward. Uncontrolled movement leads to the potential for wear to the range shift sleeve, spline damage, and/or range fork damage which can cause an unexpected loss of motive power or loss of park function. A loss motive power can cause this vehicle to crash without warning. A loss of park function can cause this vehicle crash without warning and/or injury to others outside the vehicle. Like stated above, the service 4wd message appears on the dash, with noise and vibration and changing in driving quality. Please review this and assess my vehicle for this recall, that should be associated to my VIN, thank you.
The ptu has failed in my vehicle. When I bought the vehicle there was a 4x4 light on the dash but I was told that it needed to be just turned off by a Jeep dealership. But I believe it actually was a symtom of the failing ptu. My vehicle sometimes goes into neutral when I try to pull off from a stop sign and then the vehicle kicks itself back into drive. My coolant and transmission temp rises the more I drive it and transmission seems to shift late or hard and sometimes prematurely sometimes it smells like burning electrical.
Safety issue involving loss of power and braking prior to receiving a ptu recall notice in January 2025, my vehicle began experiencing sudden and unexpected loss of power while driving, particularly when braking. Since that time, the issue has worsened significantly and now occurs more frequently. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has failed to accelerate properly after braking, creating dangerous situations in traffic. In at least one incident, there was a loss of braking power that nearly caused me to run a red light. Several of these incidents were near-accidents and occurred without warning. I have brought the vehicle to my local Jeep dealership three separate times and fully explained the loss of power and braking concerns. Each time, I was told that all issues are “directly related to the ptu recall,” that there is currently “no solution,” and that “nothing can be done. ” the vehicle was returned to me without repairs despite the safety risk. The dealership has acknowledged the issue but has not provided a fix, alternative transportation, or assurance that the vehicle is safe to operate. With a longer commute and the problem occurring more often, I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle and believe an accident outside of my control is inevitable if this continues. This defect presents a serious safety hazard involving loss of acceleration and braking while driving.
I'm pretty sure it's the ptu . I was driving up a hilly road and my Jeep had no power all of a sudden. Then the service 4wheel drive light came on in the cluster,/ dash. Then when I stopped the tires would not quit spinning. But I could tell only one at a time was rolling. But it would switch to a different tire . Each time it switched it would almost catapult me of to the side or towards the middle of the road. . I finally just shut the engine off . Because it seemed as though it had a mind of its own . . . Thank god the plow truck came up this road I was on . Because I was afraid to start it again due to the fact I did not want to go off in a trench . I had no traction when the wheels kept kicking in and out of 4 wheel drive . That to me is a big safety concern. I took it to a mechanic shop the following day and he put a scan tool on it and it came back, ptu . And he told me that this year model has a recall for the same problem .
Not sure if this is the right place to complain, but my 4 wheel drive is unavailable. I took it to my garage and they found that the power transfer unit is failing. They tried to order a new one, but they are on a worldwide backorder, so they had to order me a used one, for which I'm still waiting for. This same problem resulted in recalls up to 2019. My Jeep Cherokee is a 2020. I contacted Jeep and they won't do anything. Since this part is on a huge backorder, it tells me there us still a big problem. I believe 2020's should also have a recall, and Jeep should pay my bill.
The interior screen has become pixelated with different colors. This effects my back up camera which is a big safety hazard. All of the climate control, radio and general info are also on this screen. I have not had it diagnosed at the dealership because they charge 160. 00 to just hook up to diagnostics.
This car has had the recall for quite sometime and the dealership refuses to help because there hasn’t been a fix yet with this recall. It has powered off or simply stop working in the middle of the road multiple times. Today on the most dangerous highway in colorado springs in the snow it turn off and all the messages relating to the recall turned on. It was the scariest moment of my life.
Started financing this vehicle 11/8/25- driving on the interstate on 11/27/25 I started hearing thumping noises coming from my vehicle, I thought it was the road so I turned my radio and everything off and listened and it continued so I pulled over. I put the vehicle in park, walked around my vehicle to check for flat tires and to see if I possibly ran over something and there was nothing. I put it in reverse and it pulled itself back a little. . I put it back in park and checked around the vehicle again. I got back in the vehicle and put it back in drive and it wouldn't budge. I sat on the side of the road for over 6 hrs, 2 hrs away from home. My dealership didn't put in any of my information or transfer for the vehicle at the time it was suppose to be put in at signing and so I was out almost $600 in tow charges back to the dealership because my warranty hadn't went into effect. I've had 4 loaner vehicles threw this dealership which in return has caused me to lose my job because of other defects wrong with those vehicles as well. The mechanic at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle looked at it and told me that the rear differential had went out. And that the warranty company denied my claim. The dealership messaged me on 1/5/26 to come get my vehicle, that it had been fixed and was ready to go. On 1/6/26 I was proceeding to take my partner to work and as I was pulling out to leave, the vehicle started to make the same noises as before. I pulled back and parked my vehicle back. We have lost income now over this matter and possibly another job if we continue to call in or can't make it to work. I have 3 small children all under the age of [xxx] . I've called the Chrysler/Jeep dealership and everyone says they can't help me. I've pointed out the recalls of the same matter on other Jeep Cherokee's and how much of a safety issue this is. Vehicle is available for inspection any time. 1/6/26- the vehicle also had a warning sign pop up on the dash for the auto start. Information redacted pursuant to the freedo.
Power transfer unit is showing error codes as my service 4wd has been activated for warning light. Research shows many Jeep Cherokees from 2014-2019 were recalled for same issue. My Jeep Cherokee was not and now I have the ptu issue. My vehicle is 4wd and it cannot be used, long term effects can cause problems for my vehicle.
November 20 I took my car to seattle Jeep to comply with a NHTSA recall (u90). Few days latter when they finish the repair they created a new problem with the transmission. Now I have a rough or abrupt transmission shifting like being rear ended. The dealer told the manufacturer need to fix it because of some flaws in the software calibration or it’s internal components. Seattle Jeep it won’t take responsibility for.
4wd overheating. Owned this Jeep for 8 years and had it in multiple (5x plus) times for service 4wd code. 2 different dealerships cannot fix the issue. Now they are telling me just drive it and not worry about it or trade it in. It smells hot and something burning. I have the life time max care warranty on it. The codes I get are the 4wd is unavailable overheated and service 4wd. They have replaced multiple parts and still not working. I will be just sitting idle and it comes on.
I'm an elder who lives alone. My Jeep is my only regular transportation. I'm now fearful about this Jeep recall 01c / NHTSA 25v-011 since things are happening that night mean my safety and my vehicle are greatly at risk! my src 4wd light came on about 10 days ago and I no longer have the ability to put my Jeep in 4wd as it says it must be serviced first. This only stated about 10 days ago. I have an appointment with a dealer this coming wed, Dec 3. I said I was coming in for a recall and because my srv 4wd light was coming on. I am not mechanical and didn't really understand the recall (now I do as I've researched ad nauseam!) I was told I'd have to pay $187 for a scan!! what?!? now that I know the story I will not do that! I will still go and explain my concerns but what a rip off that would have been! I am afraid now, of driving my car - and yet there is no fix as of yet - not in many months - which I read is totally inappropriate with no recourse. This is just wrong for a safety recall with my vehicle having 'symptoms' of this issue now being 'engaged' in some way. I did a couple of srv 4wd easy troubleshooting steps of disconnecting neg battery cable for 50 minutes then re-attached and brought all 4 tires up to exact same psi. Plus I had a simple scan done at auto parts store that shows nothing but a customer there offered to use his much better scanner and see photos to see what he found my ptu. What do I do? what can I do? I'd appreciate a quick response please. My only child, a [xxx] son, was killed in a car accident in 2016 and I really don't have anyone who can support me in this situation. I need your help please. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Ptu failure. Causing vehicle to roll when placed in park. Service 4wd indicator light. Many other 2019 Cherokee models are part of a major recall. This one should be included.
While driving my 2019 Jeep Cherokee, the vehicle's start/stop system malfunctioned and caused the engine to completely shut off at a traffic light. I had my hazard lights on, and while stopped safely another driver rear ended my vehicle. The Jeep has had repeated issues with stalling and engine shut-off since I purchased it. This is a serious safety concern and could have caused greater injury. I brought my vehicle to the dealership 3 times for the same issues once back in 01/25/2023, when the vehicle was still under warranty a part was ordered and replaced, but the same issues kept recurring. When I brought the vehicle back in in 2024 I was told because my warranty had expired I would have to pay out of pocket to repair the issue.
I am writing to report a safety concern regarding my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. I recently learned that a specific part on the 2018 Jeep Cherokee was recalled due to a known defect (oil pump recall (recall t65 / NHTSA 17v-670). My 2019 Cherokee is now experiencing the exact same issue that was identified in the recall for the previous model year. Because the problem appears to be identical to the 2018 recall condition, I believe this may indicate a continuing safety defect affecting additional model years that were not included in the original recall campaign. I am requesting: 1. A formal review and investigation into whether the recalled part on the 2018 model also affects the 2019 Cherokee. 2. A full refund to what I paid to have this repaired. And yes a receipt can be provided. 3. Written confirmation of the steps you will take to address this matter. This issue is a safety concern, and I want to ensure it is properly documented and investigated. Please advise on how this can be resolved. Thank you, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] 2019 Jeep Cherokee information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
