Vehicle shuts off with all lights flashing if I don't change oil before 2000 miles. This happened to me the first year I had the car and I was almost killed on the parkway. Burke auto said it was a software update. Then it happened four days later I was able to get it to the dealership right down the road that I live but couldn't go over 15 mph and it shut off twice in two miles. Then when I got the car there it happened to one of the technicians and scared the crap out of him and he said he wouldn't drive this car. But no one did nothing. . Now today I almost was in a accident at the food store because the transmission wouldn't stop and then the whole car stopped. It was brought to burke auto group on stone harbor blvd. Cape may courthouse NJ as they told me today they can't get to it and it's going to cost $$$$ then they let me walk home in the rain. I have had Jeeps before and they are great cars but this one is going to kill me. Please help with this matter sense I can't get no help here. The car is at burke motor group in cape may courthouse. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

When coming to a stop in the vehicle, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee (bought used at 52,000mi) at 59,000mi now powers off randomly. Apparently this is due to a software issue that was recalled, but I do not see my VIN available for service. This is unacceptable as I am afraid of a newish car turning off while on the road.

My car went dead while driving. Took to the shop and said there was a "software update/recall" that caused the car to use more oil than normal and I was driving with no oil!!!!! this "recall" update had been released "6 days ago" per my Dodge/Chrysler dealership. Why is this recall not here? sounds very strange to me.

2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4 cylinder, battery went completely dead then came back in a hour, then shift (zf 9 speed transmission) got stuck in neutral. The only way to turn off the engine was to disconnect the battery seeing it was the weekend. Today 12/3/20, told that Jeep dealership software fixed the software issue, but I was told that I must have broken the shift while trying to get it into gear (not true) and must pay $300. 00 for the diagnostic besides the entire hvac system had to be replaced (which meant "no heat" in the car or venting which was already broken before incident but we had not needed any heat. Dah! when the car gear stuck, the vehicle was not in motion and I could not shut the engine off so the battery had to be disconnected. So cost of diagnostic, new shift entirely, and new hvac system and the car does not have 100. 000 miles yet.
While driving, my car will randomly shut off completely. There is a dinging noise and a quick flash of the battery light and then it says the press brake and push start. I can not accelerate but can brake. As soon as I'm completely stopped, the steering locks and it struggles to start again. It is random and has happened more than once in a row. It happened 4 months ago and the service department said the battery failed and replaced the battery, but it happened again a week again while I was turning. After I restarted it, it did it like 15 seconds later. Then two days after that it shut off randomly while I was driving 35-40 mph down a straight road. I've taken it in again and this time they can't find anything wrong with it. Battery was fine, no codes. Even the software that got updated because of the recall (stalling while driving) was fine. I've seen people say that the oil level can cause it to stall, but my oil was at 60% at the time it started happening. It's not safe that the car randomly shuts off without notice, while driving on a road or highway. That can cause a serious accident if it happens at the wrong time.
Continually receiving a service shifter error message and all gear lights on the shifter light up (park reverse neutral drive). Happens while driving and requires that you stop and restart the car in order for it to go away. Jeep dealership has been unable to fix this after three attempts. At first we were told it was a software issue. Then they replaced the entire shifter. Today they replaced the throttle body. Continues to be an issue. Have read about many other cases online from other Jeep owners.

While driving in traffic suddenly lost power. Light on dashboard indicated something with transmission. Dealer inspected and said nothing was wrong mechanically. It needed a software update. We were lucky to have not been rear ended. If nothing was wrong mechanically, it should not have lost power. A notification would have been more suitable. Carcomplaints website has 50 similar complaints about 2016 Cherokee dying or losing power for no other reason than the computer. Everyone of them states how dangerous this is while in traffic.

On startup of my vehicle, the wipers start on full speed without any control. The turn signal indicators do not function and my vehicle has rough shifting. Lastly, the running lights on the vehicle do not function when this error is occurring. The error that appears is "shift to p and then desired gear". So I literally have to stop my vehicle (even if I am on the highway) shift to p and then back to d. This is extremely dangerous while on the road. This has happened multiple times and the only way to stop is by stopping the vehicle and disconnecting the battery to reset the software. I have taken it to the dealership and they have flashed the software multiple times, however the same issue keeps occurring. Now I am experiencing a "service shifter" error. This error flashes on the instrument cluster when driving and all of the shifter lights illuminate red. This error happens sporadically and should be addressed as not being able to use turn signal indicators is also extremely hazardous and dangerous while on the road.
2016 Jeep Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to difficulty with stop/start feature on vehicle. The consumer was advised to replace battery, the vehicle lunged forward while attempting to park. The consumer was advised the software.
I was sent a recall for my navigation to upgrade, I was sent a flash drive for the upgrade and it didnt work. I called the number on the paperwork and they said to have the nearest dealership do the upgrade because the flashdive was not working. The dealership said they couldnt do the upgrade but for 400 dollars they could fix my usb port so they could upgrade the software and they kept the recall paperwork so now I dont have the number to call and tell them it's not done and when I enter my VIN it says all recalls are finished.
Cars shift bezel and jumper harness failed and had to be replaced. While driving the car, a message comes up that states service shifter and all the lights on the shifter light up. Dash display will not go back to normal until the vehicle is turned off and the system resets. The problem is sporadic and happens randomly but started occuring more frequently after Jeep did a software patch related to another rebate in the last 60 days. Vehicle is less than 5 years old and I was told by dealership that they've seen this before and classified it as an electrical issues. It wasn't covered under warranty despite it being a failure of the electrical system and that there is no way that I could have actually damaged this part.
The electric parking brake set itself and would not disengage, requiring tow. The dealership told mei need to pay for a software update to fix the problem, however I discovered on my own a service bulletin describing the exact problem #08-060-16 the vehicle was parked, but could not be operated. My opinion, either the dealership is incompetent, or purposefully deceitful. Pay for a software update. I asked, he couldn't answer. . . How did I break the software??? it is not software, the bulletin says it all.
2017 Jeep Cherokee started and placed in drive or reverse. All shifter lights come on and dashboard displays message "service shifter" and transmission is locked out. Have to shut down and restart vehicle to clear error message and get transmission to work. This has happened multiple times. Vehicle only has 25,000 miles on it. I see on web blog that multiple owners of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Jeep Cherokees have same problem. Dealers claim either never seen before (lies), or perform software update, or replace shifter and wiring harness. This does not always fix the problem.

This is my 2nd complaint since the transmission issue on 8/6/19 (tracking #11242090). I have not received an update regarding that issue. I followed up with the manufacturer who informed me that my VIN was not associated with the recall. On 8/7/19, I had the dealer perform a diagnostic test and they found that my SUV required a software update on the transmission and powertrain. The same recall affecting the 3. 2l but not issued to my VIN. On 9/8/19, my SUV began surging multiple times when I was in idle at city stoplights and died when in shifted into park three times within an hour. The only indication of an issue on my dashboard was the battery light that came on once the car died. The dash and radio continued to perform fine but the engine shut off with the key still in the ignition. I had the battery tested on 8/06/19 along with the alternator and terminals and they were at 100%. The battery was new when purchased 11/2018. I'd like to resolve this issue in order to feel safe driving this vehicle. I can provide further documentation from the dealer bayside Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 10535 automall parkway, d'iberville, ms 39540 or it can be requested from them directly.
When driving vechicle at about 50-55mph battery light and stop/start technology light comes on on the dash. Shortly after I lose power steering. This has happened three times. Very dangerous since you can lose control of vechicle. I have been able to pull over and shut down and restart vechicle to regain control. Seems to happen randomly. Brought to dealor after two times. They flashed and updated software,so they told me. Happened again after about 7-10 days. Very dangerous. Vechicle under warranty. Jeep does not seem to know the cause or the solution. Please help before something happens to somebody. Vechicle was travelling straight,in motion. When stopped at light or sign, could not turn. Power steering was lost. Engine still on,but no turning or steering function. Happened once on highway, and twice on city streets.
Bought the car about 6 months ago started having issues with transmission shifting and took it in and they told me all it needed was a software update and still to this day I have even more issues car don't start at time and then when it does check engine light turns on and when I try to put it on drive I big a big club I noise and you can really feel the car shake from the shift and and says service transmission and then all of a sudden all the service light come of by far the worse car I have ever bought!! and tell this day I still have those issues.
The service shifter message displays on the screen and you can't tell if the the is in dprn becuase all the lights are red. The car sometimes will not shift out of gear. Or jerks when it finally does. This care hesitates while in motion and as well as when stationary and trying to move. This is very dangerous. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer who stated that the recall they had was only for a software update with the shifter but this issue should also be a recall with them covering the repairs. I have less than 50k miles there is no reason why I should have to cover the expense of replacing the shifter assembly becuase the shifter is not covered under the warranty they sell you.
At multiple, seemingly random times, warning lights flash regarding transmission and other car functions, engine stops and temporarily won't restart. On restart transmission jumps hard. Software has been updated and dealer reports no recall on this vehicle. So far has just happened while stationary.
My Jeep Cherokee keeps repeating the same problems. This has been going on for more than a year. Sometimes I am terrified to drive because I do not know what is going to happen. Today and on other days, the Jeep has cut off on me a few times while in motion on a city street and sometimes when turning. The vehicle slams into gear when driving sometimes and feels like I am getting hit in the rear of the car. It is very dangerous because you don't know when it is going to happen. Today, the Jeep almost caused an accident when it just stopped on its own. Additionally, it often shifts gears erratically and very rough, even jerking at times. The dealership said they did a software update but this did not resolve the issue. I have taken to the dealer at least three times about this issue and I keep getting stalled saying either come back in 500 miles so the can do an oil consumption test or that they cannot duplicate the issue. Each time I take it in they say the did a software update or an oil change. The problem remains.
Tl- the contact leasing the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact called on behalf of the driver and stated that while the driver was driving at 55 mph, the vehicle stalled, the service shifter warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to merrick Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealer, located at 3614 sunrise hwy, wantagh, NY 11793, (516) 868-4400, where it was diagnosed that the battery and the shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However the failure recurred, the vehicle was taken back to merrick Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be update. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the failure recurred five times. The manufacturer was notified twice of the failure and opens a case numbers:32180189 and 34658713. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000. Aw.
When a phone call comes in the ringer volume is at maximum volume. This is heart stopping, making me jump. I am forced to quickly turn the volume down which, when in traffic, is very distracting and potentially dangerous. I have read online of others having this issue, with no resolution. Even though I turn the volume down, the next time the volume is right back up at maximum. There is no way to avoid this. I also have the issue of bluetooth calling being useless. Although I can hear the other party they cannot hear me. The system also makes a very loud popping static noise whenever I use the bluetooth system, either at the beginning or end. I am afraid this will damage my vehicles speaker or stereo system. I have had the vehicle to my dealer numerous times and they were able to recreate the issue. We even tested on another Cherokee and the issue did not occur for me in this vehicle. The dealer did a software update that did not help. Then they were told Jeep was coming out with a software update that would help. After 3 months they told me the update was in, so I dropped my car off again. The next day I was told that the update was corrupted and that Jeep informed them not to run the update or there would be new problems. So my car went to the dealer again for no reason. This has been a huge inconvenience for me for months now. I also had an issue with the radio rebooting while driving, for no apparent reason. I also experienced an issue with the radio displaying nothing but colored lines and eventually going black all together. This was hopefully fixed by an update but that still remains to be seen. Overall, this Jeep has had me going back and forth to the dealer starting about a month after I bought it.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the service shifter warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the parking symbol on the gear shift mechanism and all the lights on the gear shift mechanism illuminated. Courtesy Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram fiat (607 enterprise parkway, breaux bridge, louisiana 70517, (337) 240-9947) diagnosed that the computer software malfunctioned. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
I bought my Jeep Cherokee 2014 awd with 60k miles on it. Within in 6 months, my dashboard said service transmission and it was undriveable. The dealership said it was software issue and fixed it. Not even a year later and I had the same issue again and it is now getting a new transmission. Often when driving, it revs very high and goes nowhere, or if I'm cruising a parking lot, its revving very high and will jerk into another gear. Not only that, but I've had know drive shaft bearing ands a new radio put it. The big issue is the transmission and the repeated tows, missing work, late to work, engine shaking, grinding, and now being replaced. I've owned it my own for 1. 5 years, am already at this point. Dealership won't replace it, just told me I have it covered under warrantly and OH well. These issues have happened when starting my car in the morning to leave my driveway, won't shift into gear. Driving on the highway attempting to switch lanes and have no acceleration so I slam on the brakes before I get into an accident because I know if it doesn't take off, its not going to until I least expect it.
The vehicle has repeatedly come up with a "service shifter" message since I purchased it in Dec of 2015 new. The dealership replaced the shifter assembly, but the problem kept happening. They kept flashing the software and telling me it was fine. At the end of July 2018, I took my vehicle in for an oil change and to have the headlight researched because it had begun to flicker along with one of the two license plate lights. The dealership told me that the headlight and the lisence plate lights went out at the same time by coincidence. I tried to contact Jeep/Chrysler directly and explain there was a bigger problem but they wouldnt listen. Days later, I stopped for gas, shut off the car and filled the tank. When I got back in the car wouldnt start. I kept trying to turn it on but it wouldnt make a sound. Finally, after about 25 minutes the car turned on. Once on, error messages light up my dash: service shifter, service parking break, service engine, service transmission, and others. I tried to shift into gear but it shifted hard and sounded like the transmission was going to drop. The car wouldnt move. Towed the car to dewey Dodge. They flashed it, told me it was fine, and made me come get it and wouldnt look further. 24 hours later, I was stranded again, car wouldnt start. Towed it again. They told me it was the battery, even though they had previously told me they did a 27pt inspection and it was fine a day prior. . . They had my car for 2 months. Once I got it back, I had it for only a few days and I was stuck again. After about 30 minutes the car turned on, and I was able to try to drive home. While on highway, service shifter appeared again. Dewey replaces the wiring harness and the shifter again. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge a widespread issue even though multiple online forums have a collection of people detailing the same problems!.
As of lately, the speedometer toogles up & down through a set of numbers even after attempts are made to reduce speed especially when on cruise control. During cruise control vehicle accelerates beyond set limit & requires extreme force to decelerate. It happens randomly as does many dangerous issues mainly after a software update takes place with the vehicle. If the updates don't cause acceleration concerns it causes vehicle to shut off in traffic & over the last several months a few high risks for major traffic accidents were only avoided by the swift maneuvering of other vehicles or myself when possible to avoid collision. Never before experienced so many malfunctions of mechanical/technological problems from a vehicle. As for if the vehicle was stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway, turning, braking etc when these issues occured the answer would be my Jeep has stalled, loss speed, shut off and/or speed up under all these conditions. Dealership has me bring it in and they flash the system to "correct" the problem. That is until the next update or some software malfunction causes unexpected scary incident to arise like now with the cruise control that needs addressing.
Tl- the contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude. The contact stated that while driving about 15 mph, the vehicle stalled. The electronic symbol illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the crowley Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram (860-261-3000, located at 1461 farmington Ave, bristol, CT 06010) where the software was upgraded. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and an unknown code was diagnosed. The technician also diagnosed and replaced the engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and told the contact to file for an arbitration. The contact filed for an arbitration. The failure recurred and the same dealer installed a flight controller, to track the failures. The contact later received notification NHTSA campaign number: 18v739000 (power train). The recall was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle "appeared to be repaired", but wanted the vehicle replaced. The failure mileage was unknown. Fe.
Brake pedal that slings forward after releasing and making a slamming noise, plastic parts just falling off inside from under the dash, the trim falling off on the outside, the obvious transmission, the power liftgate releasing and refusing to close on its own, the display screen blinking and occasionally refusing to respond, the tire pressure gage indicating a warning of pressure to 51psi then seconds later changing to 31psi (this one occured after the latest software update), gps is unbelievably unreliable, uconnect takes control when not given permission, start/stop button does not work everytime. Shutting the vehicle off has been difficult. Alt feature does not work about half the time, battery has had to be replaced two times. The inside liner around the roof not attached, the left back wheel the trim is popped off. The vehicle refused to go when at a busy intersection 4 days ago and almost caused a collision. Gas pedal was pushed down for 5 seconds before it started to move.
A pop-up message appears that the "vehicle phone requiers service" the gps becomes inoperative and causes loss of gps function. These faults are discussed I service bulletin sb-10058300-8397. This happens intermittently and can occur at anytime. This occurred within the warranty period and but was reported to Jeep 3 days after the warranty period. It was intermittent at the time and I thought it was just a computer glitch. It is now so unreliable that it is useless. Jeep refuses to do anything to support repair of this issue which they know exists. Their u-connect people have been telling me tere is a software fix for this to put me off for six months but have not produced anythng which could fix this. It is time for a recall on this item so that they are forced to take care of their customers. By the way even though they knew there were potential issues with this function of the radio they failed to inform their customers of the problems. If they had iinformed me this problem would have been reported to them 2 months earlier and within the warranty period. This is wrong, just wrong.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While the vehicle was parked inside the garage, the automatic start feature erroneously activated and the engine started. The automatic start feature and key fob had not been used. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure, but the rfhm was reprogrammed and the keyless ignition software was improved. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 10,648.
Lane departure warning capability is not functioning properly. It goes off while in operation if the vehicle turns a corner and often when changing lanes. Car alarm goes off unexpectedly and without cause. Has been returned to the dealership repeatedly only to be told they are working on a software update. No estimate of time can be given but advised this is a problem with the renegade.
I had just picked up my Jeep 2014 Cherokee trailhawk from the dealership following the s-55 recall software update. (my vehicle was deemed not to need the new transaxle wiring harness parts, only the software update. ) upon leaving the dealership, the battery light and alarm chime came on while making a u-turn and the steering became very hard at low speed. At the next traffic light, I experienced a loss of steering as slowing to a stop. When the light turned green, I was able to complete the left turn as the steering re-engaged upon acceleration. I immediately pulled into a parking lot and had extreme difficulty turning into a parking space, as steering went out again as the brakes were applied and speed decelerated to a stop. I was able to limp vehicle back the short distance to the dealership by keeping off the main highway and using parking lots and back streets. This occurrence of events was the same as my husband experienced prior to the s-55 transaxle wiring harness recall software update, except he eventually also lost all emotive power (complaint # 10915926). The service technician at the dealership could not replicate this issue, possibly because I inadvertently turned vehicle off in service lane, which may have reset the system temporarily.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the check transmission and service engine warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle decelerated to 45 mph. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (metro Jeep located at 650c memorial dr chicopee, MA 01020 877-220-8331) where it was diagnosed that an update was needed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 32118538. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 25,240.
On Wednesday morning, August 24th, 2016, my wife was driving our 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude in traffic when for an unknown reason the vehicle stopped dead, no warning, no coasting to a stop, an immediate very abrupt stop. The steering wheel locked up, the front wheel drive system locked up, the vehicle was unresponsive to any driver commands. My wife had to seek assistance in moving the vehicle to a safe location out of the traffic lanes. We seriously believe that this unintended and uncontrollable vehicle action is a safety issue inherent within this model of 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Upon diagnosis by the local fca dealer, we were informed that the vehicles oem battery failed the load test and would be replaced under the Jeep factory warranty, battery part number bb94r750-aa. The dealers service representatives seemed to be unconcerned with what in our opinion is a serious design flaw with this vehicle. The vehicle has received 3 previous software updates under factory warranty due to safety recalls.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shut down and the service transmission, check engine, and park brake indicators illuminated. The vehicle was turned of and restarted after a few minutes, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to brown Ford (888-799-6294, located at 483 NY-112, patchogue, NY 11772) where the technician reprogrammed the software. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,786.
Light-emmiting-diode lamp which indicates when the parking-break is engaged is not visible in daylight [I. E. Peak bright southern California sunshine]. And, the led color is non-optimal for human observation. The led which is illuminated when the parking-break is set is not visible in day light. Please consider fixing or repairing this problem ASAP. I routinely need to cover the area with my hand and squint in order to see if the led is lighted. This is a serious problem that could easily be fixed. Perhaps someone during assembly used the wrong resistor??? I hope that Chrysler Jeep used pwm to control the led brightness, so that this issue can be fixed with a software update.
